I've been convinced I should update my progress here as well as in my own blog. I planned to wait until I'm completely done with my project, but maybe the others are right and people might still be interested to see that I painted Samarianne now.

So here's the post from the I4D blog:

Update:
Ok here we go, I finished painting Samarianne, my PMW wizard. A few important things to keep in mind before we come to the pictures:
1. Samarianne is done, but that's not even 50% of the whole project. I still have to finish building and then paint Hope (S' doggy) and the their base.
2. After effects have not been applied yet, I'll have to wait till the rest of the scene is done, before I can apply rust, dirt and gore.
3. There is some shine on the miniature, which is not intended, but my brush on matte coat partly failed me.

Ok, this is how we started:

Then there was Primergeddon:

And now a couple of months later I've finally seen it through. There is more to do, like I said I'll have to build and paint Hope now, but I'm positive I'll manage to keep my spirit up this time.
The paintjob was a mixed experience. I had some good moments in the end and definitely learned a lot, so I'm not going to complain again. If I did it again I would do a lot of things differently, but that's probably just the manifestation of the learning curve.

Without further ado:

Samarianne, formerly Sister of Silence, officially KIA, acolyte of Tiberius Probitas, Ordo Hereticus

Details worth mentioning might be the freehands on the seal and apron. They say "Silentia Eterna" refering to her past life and "Mutatio - Haeresis - Magice" standing for the three evils the Ordo Hereticus fights.

Baiyuan - Thanks man for finishing her off. I've been waiting.

Wow the lenses are just stunning.

Her face and eyes have such a coldness to them which is great.

I like that you have painted her skin in a bodyglove it looks good.

I've already given you my praise on your personal blog, but thanks for completing the circle, Baiyuan. Much appreciated look at a miniature that's been through so much!

Great, great work!

I am gutted that I found this thread long after its completion, what wonderful models, are you guys gonna be doing any more of these challenges?

It is often better to PM the person in question rather than dredge up a really old thread to ask a question that might not ever get looked at, never mind answered!

Thank you Mr Alpharius for unlocking the thread and allowing a little threadomancy.

I got together with JRN last weekend and managed to get a rather nice shot of our pimped wizards and thought you guys might like to see it....shame we couldn't get them all together.

I really need to go back over this thread again, there is some much cool stuff just left to dwell in the past.

Thanks for the photo although a family shot would have been cool.

Those were the days, guys! What a great project it was.
Just recently I thought how awesome it would be to start a second round. Admittedly there probably won't be a release wave as versatile and appealing in a while, but I guess something could be figured out.

Oh btw, now that the thread is active again I can tell you, that I'm thinking about finishing my wizard('s fearsome pet) in the near future. I had it in my hands just yesterday and thought what a pity it is, that I never finished those last few armorplates and got to painting. It was such a nice conversion I can't let it rot in some prjoect box forever. Don't hold your breath, but maybe keep an eye open.

One of my earliest Dakka memories is of you sculpting Hope's robo genitals, it'd be good if you got posting some more progress. And a new competition would be brilliant. Maybe the theme could be reversed, so you can start with any model but you have to make something more specific out of it.

Hhm, intriguing. Wouldn't have to be too specific i.e. restrictive.
More like: Build a henchman sage. Tons of ways to do it.
Good idea, mate.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Regarding progress report, I'm still determined to not show it before I'm done building it. Besides, the only thing left to do is sculpting a bit of armor and installing some steroid vials. Shouldn't take more than an evening or two once I get around to do it.

@ Baiyuan: Just when I had pretty much given up hope Seriously, though: Finish that model!

If you're considering another round to this contest, gentlemen, count me in! This seems like the kind of challenge that could help me to push the envelope on my modelling and painting...

Thread necromancy at it's best.

I ended up doing quite a few pimped wizards for the BAD retinue. And it did take a while to get the original right as you may recall...

Baiyuan - Don't tease us....build and finish the dog already!

Bruticus - Good idea..build something specific. eg henchman sage or a priest.

KrautScientist - Push the envelope watch it bend.

Migsula - I'm looking forward to see how you pimp the skink shaman and fit it into the "good" retinue.
