I just now took the plunge and bought some SSU forces since my FLGS clearanced out their small FFG stock. I picked up some наблюдатель and жнецы, and the Winter Child from the Hades campaign.

I ordered a bunch more that will be arriving shortly. I plan on posting the models as they are finished.

Painted up the жнецы, need to touch up the face of the left one as I didn't get the wash in the mouth as much as I needed to, and there is a minor amount of flesh tone on the very top of their collars, not visible here. Next up will be the Winter Child, as I won't be getting the bulk of my army in until at least Saturday.

Alright SSU! Those are great looking pieces. Nice highlights on the fatigues.

Nice part is, I just took some VX-88, painted it all over the fatigues, left all the belt equipment and rucksacks primer color, washed heavily with Devlan Mud, then just a light hightlight of VX-88 on top of the wash. The primer color and consistency is perfect to work with for the effect I was looking for.

Stupid easy models to paint, which is the only reason I'm getting them done! I'm a horribly lazy painter. My concern is going to be painting the tanks when they come in and getting a nice, smooth color on them. I have an airbrush, I'm just garbage at mixing the paint so it goes on smoothly.

Well they look good. Keep it simple. And you are right about how easy of a model they are to paint. I have painted many using just base/primer coat and highlights. I will post my helicopters some time.

Got my big order of Dust models in, and finished my Red Guard Command Squad. Starting work on the Silent Death sniper team, will post them in the next day or two when I finish.

Didn't quite get the second one done today before I had to go to work (got it washed, but not highlighted), but man, I am proud of how this turned out and want some feedback. Shields up or down?

What kicks ass about these models is Death World Forest is almost a perfect 1:1 match to the primer, being maybe just 1 shade darker. Maybe. This makes painting this color so easy it's exciting for a lazy painter like me. I went ahead and weathered the edges with Typhus corrosion and edged with Necron Compound dry brushing to get this effect.

If I leave the guy exposed to show off the Comrade inside, I will glue the helmet in a raised position above him. Not sure which way I like better honestly. Thoughts?

I finished the other frog-sniper, but didn't get a chance to snap a photo. I'll take a group shot when I get the Nina/Nikita done (got the base coats and wash finished).

I decided I like them both with and without the head piece so I'll just not glue it on and alternate on/off every game I play.

Been quite a few days since I could finish up any models since I was actually playing the game with my buddies this weekend!

Finished up the Nikita (still painting up the RPG arms on the Nina loadout, which is BRUTAL). I see a couple spots I want to touch with Typhus corrosion, namely the armor plates on the arms and the very front of the face plate armor, but otherwise I feel she's pretty good lookin'.

Just adding a couple quick snaps of the KV-47 variants painted, first being Nina (who is most likely to be on the table for me) and Natasia. I just filed down the mold lines on my Matrioshka and will be painting the big girl next!

you really need to cut the lawn. I see the lawn mower hidin over in the corner, rusting away. I bet that thing wouldnt crank if you gave it a million dollars.

I think yours are actually the first Steel Guard figures I've seen painted up. Was that a GW paint you used on them? Are their helmets/lids hinged at all? Or are you forced to either have them open or closed?

Yup, it's a jungle out there, for sure. I've been neglecting the yard work as my dog was dying and I've been distracting myself with painting. We finally had to put her down, so I guess I have no excuse to not mow the zoggin' yard. And yes, that mower is hot garbage, but finding a method of disposing of it is vexing me. I have a very nice mower that is safely stowed in the garage.

Everything you see is painted with the GW paint range exclusively. The helmets have a little tab that fits in the model, so you can put them on and take them off completely, but no hinge so you would have to glue it on the model in the "open" position to achieve that effect.

I have a TON of infantry and heroes arriving by mail tomorrow, so I'll be painting them up shortly. I'll post a glorious Soviet army shot once everything is done, but until then, I'll be dropping pics of each completed unit as I finish them as normal.

I just got a big shipment of infantry to flood the table. I caught a nasty version of the flu, which sucks, but it allowed me some time to paint and first up is the Red Guard Anti-tank squad with an attached Commissar (who's also packing some heat!)

Here's a sneak peek of my upcoming Frontoviki squad and a shot of the Commissar that will run with the previously posted Red Guard Command Squad (because even officers need to get yelled at from time to time!)

Finished up my super heavy tank after a lull in painting. I will probably write something along the lines of "Victory or death!" on the side in Cyrillic white "paint" sometime in the future when i perfect my handwriting, but for now, she's battle ready.

Not played Tactics yet but there are a couple of people at my gaming club who are interested and I think killing zombies might be appreciated.

Rules include how to play it as battlefield as well, so no gridded play mats are required!

Got my Fakyeli painted, but weather wasn't right for close ups. Here's the army so far in very poor lighting.


Here's an even worse pic of the part of the army I have yet to paint/fully paint, and this is barring me getting an itch and buying more stuff.

So I had carpet installed, so I wasn't able to paint for quite some time. I worked 30 straight hours moving furniture and tearing up/laying down new sub floor that was damaged, too.

Anyway, I have a couple of heroes done and I need some opinions on the Chinese Volunteer I got painted. Not sure if I like it or not.

This is the guy I need some opinions on. I went the route that Dust Studios did with their Chinese Volunteers and tried to paint a light blue uniform similar to the one worn by certain units in WW2. Not sure if I like how the color turned out. I started with a dark blue base coat, then a heavy layer of light blue, a wash, a detail of the light blue and then drybrushed grey on top.

I'm contemplating swapping him over to khaki like his other Soviet comrades, but wanted them to stand out as Chinese and not just blend in, especially since this is the SINO-Soviet Union, and it's pretty much all Russians. Anywho, here's the model, rip it apart please, since I have 4 more of them to paint:
