Commanders, I present the Cerberus MkII - Main Battletank Chassis of the 5th Hades Armoured Division

Working on a range of addon conversion bits and a few alternate versions - I am really inspired by SDKFZ to do a Cerberus ARV.

For those who dare not ask - Yes, its available for sale here: http://treadheadz.tictail.com/

Oh nice! I've honestly thought about doing a bit the same, except making it maybe Tiger-inspired.

But anyway, it looks ace right now! And may I ask, is this one supposed to be a Vanquisher? (I'm not exactly sure how that variant's spelled, so bear with me. :/)

Yes, the tracks are from the Land Raider kit.

This beast is a tad larger than the standard Russ - but the waepon mounts are at the same height, so as not to get an unfair advantage - Allthough in my gaming group, it's not a problem.
I've dug up a comparison picture from the early WIP stage.

The gun is meant to be a Battlecannon - I've also done a Vanquisher variant - as not to make the gun comicly long, I'v simply added a sleek muzzle break from an old AT-43 model.

That is massively cool work! It almost looks like it's a smaller version of the Baneblade chassis which is awesome, and once you add sponsons it'll really look 40k-ified!

Do you have any shots before it was painted/primed? I might be interested in trying something like this myself if that's ok?

Great work!

Yes! Finally spend some quality time, building tanks, in this case Vanquisher turrrets, for my Command Tanks!

Also working on a type of CAWS, counts-as sponson for now...

And lastly a size comparison with the Leman Russ (Alpha Hull)

Sorry for the large pictures - still noobing photobucket!

Very neat! What do you have planned for paint?

Also, if you want to do smaller pictures, you can just upload to Dakka - it resizes your images for you.

Did you make the hull from plasticard and then make a resin cast? They look fantastic and the counts-as sponsons on the turret are brilliant, very slick.

+98% of the tank is a resin cast made from a plasticard master I built, I just need to add a few detailing - like crew, stowage, comms and secondary weapons - basicly the cool stuff that really sets the different tanks apart and give the model some character and history.

For paint: I think I'll go with "simple" Baneblade brown or desert type scheme with some Dark and medium grey details. periscopes and other optics will probably be golden/amber.
The overall paint scheme will match my infantry closely.
I've also aquired a host of Gundam warning decals, so I really can't wait to get painting!

I want this.... that's all I can really say.

Awesome idea, perfect execution and bonus points for not using a 1/72 scale M1A1 model kit to start with.

Did you 3d print those tanks? Some of the pics look like plasticard and some look molded or printed. Either way they're awesome!

Crap! I sooo forgot that I also started this thread on Dakka - Thnigs have progressed a bit, heres the latest:

Did a huge load of work on the project in the last few days, mainly making mastermolds and casting turrets.
Still missing the Mantle and main BattleCannon, but this will be the standard kit for the A2:

I made a quick "proof of concept" for the rear bustle rack, by making a resinmaster and then bending it in hot water - came out pretty nice, just need to adjust the size and spacing of the girders.

And lastly, I finished the mold for the Cerberus Assault Gun (Punisher) - this is the first trial cast, still needs rear ammo hopper and ammo-chute - but I'll get around to that tomorrow!!

Edit:
The new Bustlerack fence/girders are done and looks great - I went from 2mm horizontal strips to 1.5mm and it looks better IMHO.
I'll get pictures of the test cast up tonight, hopefully(!)

Next on the slate is Main Battlecannon/Vanquisher and mantle.
Ammo hopper and feed chute for the Punisher/Exterminator.
And finally the main hull.

After that I'll start doing more main gun variations.

I also got plans for a Destroyer and Atlas type variants - but these may end up being a limited edition upgrade thing.

although it is a LR proxy, I'm not sure if all variants will be done, so far this project has taken alot of time, and I really want to be done with the A2/MkII so I can get painting - But I'm forcing myself not to rush it, and compromise on the design.

At the request of Col.Jacka on the Warseer forum, I've also deviced a small background for the tank - still needs a bit of working and needles to say I've taken some inspiration from Greek mythology and whatnot. Cool thing is, it got inspired to write up some background story for my IG and its homeworld.

Anyways here goes:

Named after it creator Forgemaster Erik Cerberus of the Adeptus Mechanicus.
The Cerberus Main Battle Tank is produced on the Forgeworld Hades Prime - and its surrounding industrial moons.
The First Cerberus was originaly produced and fitted with the Rippler Cannon, A triple barrel Battlecannon firing high velocity shells. The combination of a highly advanced and pure machine spirit and targetting system, and the engine and machine technology adapted from the Sicarian Battle Tank. The Cerberus was an absolute lethal predator, moving fast across the terrain and decimating its prey with high velocity fire from the Rippler Cannon
Unfortunately the main forges and STC vault for the Rippler Cannon was destroyed during the first Borderlands War, when a massive Ork invasion tore through the Tannhauser Gate System - Host system of the Hades Prime and its sister planets Elysia and Mideria.
Unable to reproduce the Rippler Cannon, thousands of Cerberus Tanks where re-configured to the armament of the Leman Russ, thus extending the life and formidable technology of the Cerberus Tank.
For many centuries after, the Cereberus has been used primarily by the Imperial Guard Armoured Divisions created from the Tannhauser Gate System, among them The Hades 5th Armoured Division commanded by Lord General Ezekial Rhoza III. Several version of the tank have also found its way into service in other systems and with other Guard Regiments.

Comments?

Really cool idea. I did something similar myself for my two LRBT but then I got lazy & reverted back to modifying standard russes to look different lol. I honestly never considered casting them though. Great idea.

You're doing a great job. I'd probably suggest though possibly looking at subbing it in for another tank as you seem to be significantly larger than a LRBT. You might be smack dab in the middle between the macharius and the leman russ! There is the malcador that is smaller yet but IIRC it doesn't have a traversing turret.

Its actually not more than 5-10% bigger.

While constructing I did have a few concerns about the size, however the weapons are placed at the same height as the LR, so no advantage there.
The side are about 15mm longer, which translates to more side armour shooting - And the front profile is bigger making it easyer to hit and less likely to hide.
The only REAL problem ruleswise, is that the gun is 5cm longer giving you 2" on the range when measuring from the muzzle, but with a base 72" range, thats hardly a biggie!

Of course, that will be more of a problem with the Punisher cannon - but I'll just measure range from the mantle.

You know, nobody complains about the ragnarok counting as a russ because gw made it & said it was ok. Nor do they take issue with true scale rhinos & land raiders so why do they worry about a russ being a bit bigger just because it's custom built?

As an ig player it's as much a disadvantage for our tanks to be larger as it is an advantage. All those lance & melta weapons are closer to it than a standard russ & if it's not modeling for advantage to use a predator autocannon turret on a chimera then neither is this since rule of cool trumps all. In fact it seems that only power gamers who fear losing some of their advantage niggle over such minutiae.

Woah, those turrets and tanks look awesome man. That's an amazing job. I'm much impressed.

Say, out of curiousity, do you have a Rhino body lying around to put a turret on for size comparison? A turret like that might make for a cool Predator variant as well.

Hmmm...

Might be too big bordering on cartoonish, but I'll get a picture up sometime tomorrow.
