Subject: Eldar Gems?

Hi all,
i just wanted to know the techniques of painting the many many gems in the eldar army. i already understand the technique of highlighting a base color with 2 more layers moving towards the bottom, and then finishing with a white dot in the dark part. this does look nice but are their any other different ways of painting gems that are still cool? ive always been a fan of uniqueness.
Also, for the gems, should i apply a gloss varnish to them to make all the more stunning?

hahah thanks for the picture man but i was wondering if there any alternate methods to this that are still good looking. not just the classic highlight lower and lower with a white dot at the top. thanks so much anyways though.

I pretty much use the same painting method for gems, but after sealing, I put a drop of Woodland Scenics Realistic Water on the gem stones.
Thats just my method.

Oh right, I see what you're saying. I didn't interpret your 1st post as intended.
Um there is this paint from Liquitex. It's pretty nifty. Might give the effect you're want. I've used the red one and it gives a nice sparkly effect. I got mine from Dickblick.
Is that more along the lines of what you're after?

I use a white base with an appropriate coloured ink over the top (slightly watered down). This does all your highlighting for you and dries to a gloss finish.
Simple yet effective.

Yes, this. It will basically give it a coating that will appear like glass, or .... a gem! =D
