No, this was entirely predicted. Stormclaw was not a Starter set.

I like the new artwork but hate the layout. Almost meme font on commercial product, it would seem.

I find it at least a bit amusing that they packed in the Chaos Aspiring Champion into the set. I have never seen him sold at the current price point, but I would be inclined to grab him at a cheap price from eBay parts dealers.

I knew it was coming, our GW rep told us that the stormclaw was not the new starter. And for our old dark vengeance boxes we will be getting the new small rulebook to give to people.

I make bad decisions and think they are good.

The more sets with softback rulebooks included that get onto the market the better.

It increases the chance of people like me being able to pick up a rulebook for 7th edition.

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

It was also discussed rather extensively online, both when 7th ed first released and when Stormclaw was announced.

Threads like "new 7th starter set" lead me to believe otherwise

Yeah, those posts were mis-titled. As you read them people
brought up the nature of the sets.

Yepp. Everyone knew Dark Vengeance was being re-released with 7th rulebook and that the Stormclaw was not a starter but a 2 faction expansion to the Red Waaagh! campaign. They also said somewhere that there will be more 2 faction campaigns, so we can expect more limited supply 2 player sets.

Which would be cool.

What caught me off guard was the addition of the champ in the starter! Now the two forces are more balanced points-wise!

I now feel bad that I bought Dark Vengeance last September.

Was a busy year for me so I never got around to painting much of it...now they re-release the same set with the 7th rules for the same price AND the aspiring champion as well (but no chappy).

Oh well, that's a first for Gee dubs.

However, given how starter sets work (and how cheap many figs were sold) I'm guessing Chaos players will be able to get their hands on the champ for a tenner on ebay pretty soon.

Dark Vengeance is actually such a good set, it deserves to stay. I loved Dark Vengeance.

My one quibble is that the new box art actually looks worse than the old box art to me. I guess it's all subjective, everyone else probably likes the new art.

Can't be helped when everyone else is wrong.

GW themselves said that DV would be the "STARTER" for 7th ed, complete with updated rules.
Stormclaw was never listed as a "Starter", but a campaign pack box. Yes, they both have minis, and other assorted guff - but DV was the one ALWAYS slated to be the starter.

Liked the old box art. However being a ork player I wish that Sanctus Reach was the starter.

What old box art? The old box was just a plain background with the 40k logo on it.

I love the new artwork.

Eh, not much of a starter set without a table mat and terrain. A real starter set comes with everything a starter needs for a great looking and playing game, ala DZC. With this set a starting player can play a game on a dinner table with misc. household objects for terrain.

If GW gave you everything you needed in a starter set, they wouldn't make as much money. Also, Dark Vengeance doesn't really give you models for a playable list.

And now looking at it any faction can field an imperial knight, some of them just need to stay 12" away though.

That is why I said 6th edition, unless the WD team already knew about 7th and that is what he ment and shouldn't have said it.

Funny after that comment the Facebook was taken down. Maybe this is why. Not to let out, what was going to be the future stuff.

I am glad DV is back. As someone else said before, I prefer the old artwork, nice, simple. New one is not bad, I guess just have to get use to it.
