Apart from maybe one more wash and some snow on the base this is pretty much done

Very nice! All I'd do is put some edging around the skull to set it apart from the white plates. Great work!

Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions

I like the knight a lot, but I do not like the skull on the ion shield.
This is totally a matter of personal preference, but I feel like we get enough damn skulls with GW and the knights are a way to break free from that; house crests and such just look so much better than a derpy old skull in a very prominent location.

And to be honest, I don't like the base. The idea is good, but it's clunky. It's quite obviously one of those new craters and it shows, and I don't like how it significantly goes beyond the confines of the actual knight base.

That said, again, I think it's a very nice job.

The skull is due to the knight being a free blade and these are the symbols for that knight "order".

Nice work. Paint a large model always takes a lot of patience and hard work. Just one thing, and it just my OCD...

The coat of arms on it goes against the rules of tincture in Heraldry. White/Silver & Yellow/Gold are referred to as metals and the rule is that on any coat of arms you cannot have a metal on a metal.

Otherwise, great work on the striping - very clean looking lines. Also love the wash darkening around the rivets. Great work.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

I think the skull and right shoulder designs need picking out in additional colours to help them stand out a little more. Perhaps use them to also work on some additional freehanding and add more details as well.

Yes. That is what I was referring to. You have the skull which is a metal color on a quad field of a metal and black. It is a violation of the laws of tincture of heraldry. If the white on the shield was any other color other than yellow/gold then it would be fine as they are the metal on metal rule. You also cant change the color of the skull as if you painted the skull any colors other than one of the metals, then it would also violate the rule of a color on a color.

I was a Herald in the SCA for about 10 years and had to help people design coat of arms and such. As I said, I apologize if I am coming across as anal retentive, this is not my intent. Just wanted to share this knowledge and you can take of it what you want. After all, this is just a game and who knows if they kept to the rules of heraldry that is used in our current day and past, right?

If you want to read more about the basics of heraldry, check out this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_of_tincture

But either way, it is a beautiful paint job!!!

Edit: Thinking about it, if you wanted to keep the same basic concept for the shield and keep it authentic-ish with proper heraldry, you can remove the large skull and fill in the grid so you have 2 white/black sections. Then you could put a white skull in each of the black sections (Or even a black skull in each of the white sections - or both).

Looks good but the inside of the barrel is looking particularly grey. Is that intentional? Did it get missed?

Other than that it looks great.

I noticed it after the pics. My black isn't great and if something isn't under coated properly sometimes the black doesn't take. It will be sorted
