So I was looking for a quick and easy way to paint 50 guardsman, but also look different to the standard guard.

I introduce the emperors chosen, the glorious dead risen to fight in his name in the most dire of situations.

Does it work?

when doing a "ghost guard" there are several problems... try highlighting more for a more turquoise/green/white.
the one here is looking after a guardsman on a wildwater ride.
second... why would the emperor "rise" normal guardmen? fluffwise not so great... they are kind of... meat... after that.. try some osl on the base for real ghostly oetic

I think staju1985 is on the right track. The model needs some white or a more brilliant, glowing green added.

Currently it looks a bit like a green plastic army man.

It's a cool theme, though. I'd say you are 85% there, just add some white highlights and you'll be golden!

The general effect is nice, but yeah pick out a few details. Maybe make the face whiter and a few other highlights here and there would make these stand out brilliantly.

This is really hard effect to sell. You need to work a full spectrum of highlights, ending with pure white highlights to sell the effect. Otherwise it looks like you are lazy and just painted green guardsmen. Also, consider purple as an accent color.

It looks like an old bronze statue, honestly.

I agree that if you threw a huge pile of highlighting on it, it would probably look better. Also, making the shift towards more of a blue color would help as well.

I picture in natural light looks a little better.

I'll have a play tonight and add some highlights, and I'm going to paint the aquilla on the rifle in red.

A little bit of red detail can look good on this technique though.

High contrast on darks and lights should help out a lot to add the glowy feel.

And their battle cry will be, in a ghostly wail or whisper as appropriate: "That which is dead may never die!" orrrrrrr, "The dead will not suffer the living to pass"

I don't understand painting Guard like this, but hey, if you can make them look good, who can complain?

I always loved the LotR ghosts but never thought I could pull the effect off very well. Anyone got a link to a video tutorial on this technique?

Just a way to make my conscripts look different without going 3rd party. Plus quick! I think massed it will come together, if not it will be a lot of stripping!

Don.macclaine has posted a good guide one post up. Other the way I did it is quick and easy, but also doesn't seem to well received lol

Alright, I don't want to be that guy, but why, WHY can't people EVER spell my last name right? I mean, its right there this time so I don't get the misspell. On a side note, I only posted that other guys guide because its how you get the look they had going in LotR, and those ghosts kick butt.
By the way, I fully support your project man, its different, and if you ever want to try something new but don't know what, you could check out my post http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/610468.page#7118107
