Wow, quite a few jerks in this thread! I hope some of you guys realize this is a naval ship, not a space one.

I like the idea of 40k naval/river ships, though this one needs to be "imperialized" more. It's hard to scratchbuild anything Imperial, maybe you should try kitbashing some details like weapons, turret or decoration. More colorful/decorative paintjob might help as well, the Imperium likes to show off its warmachines. Still, this ship could pass for a low-tech imperial world as is.

Anyway, I checked your other thread ( http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/591415.page ) ... Did anything actually change at all since the May pictures? That said, your orkish Ironclad looks much better - you should finish that one!

OP, I like it!

You've obviously put some effort into this. The weld seams, the rust, the (what I can only guess is hand cut) perfect copy of the aquila. And plenty of rivets. Always need more rivets.

Good work on making it look like a venerable old tub. Plans on making any more?

I have to agree, if we are going to offer criticism, it shouldn't be rude. But I can see what the issue is. Not trying to be rude in any way, but it seems a little off to me. You obviously spent time making it and weathering it, which looks great. I think the hull is a tad, just a tad flat. I think it would look a little better beefed up a little.

The weird part is the aquila, which is well done in and of itself, but it looks like it was just added after the fact. I'm not sure if it could be blended in a little more or what, but it does look like it is sitting on the model and not part of it.

Other than that I think it is a great idea. There's far too many people complaining about this doesn't happen in the imperium, yada yada yada. There are so many WD articles etc. where IG or PDF have special vehicles. This would be a great one for a regiment defending a river or what-have-you.

Anyway, great idea, good so far.

I can only identify one weakness: the exhaust ports.

My only complaint is the smoke stacks in the back; it makes it look orky, like the exhausts on a hot rod to make it go faster type of orky.

Also, I think the Aquila should go on some sort of slope on the front end. Right now I feel like I'm looking at the Union's USS Monitor.

Sorry, but I don't like this at all. And I can see why some quickly resort to rude comments. But let me elaborate:

The problem with this is that...well.. it looks very plain and flat. The few bits you added like the exhausts make it look even MORE flat as is because they emphasize the other surface instead of adding to it.

It needs some turrets, antennas, gun ports at the side, maybe some rope. Any kind of detail to make it look like a model and not a piece of floating debris.

Try e.g. adding some sand barricades on top of it with a HB behind. Or some "propped open" flaps on the sides with guns sticking out. Some antennas near the cockpit, maybe a flag at the rear instead of the really tagged on-aquila (SM Banners, like the RW Banner, could work here, depending on scale). Get a piece of cord and span it from the front over the main turret to the back. Glue an anchor with a chain to it. Maybe some searchlights... Anything to make it less flat.

Constructive criticis (a few have sort of made these points):

1. This looks more like an Ork "ironclad", a la Armageddon, which would be cool. The whole submarine assault on Helsreach (I think) was a cool piece of fluff.
2. If you're going to call it an Imperial vessel, I would think it would look more refined and uniform, and that the Aquila would be better integrated in the model; my point still stands that it looks like an Aquila on top of a Civil War model.
3. Related to above point- come up with a story for it. Why does this exist? What does it do? Who made it? A good example might be that this was secretly built by loyalist Imperial forces on a Chaos Space Marine enslaved planet to escape from a coastal labor camp. That would explain the unrefined nature of the construction.

I'm not being rude but it really looks like kinda nothing, like its the beginning of something but not anything yet.

If you are going for the civil war look or Ironclad's I get it but you are gonna have to Grimdark it up a lot, I'd use what you have as the base of the boat, rip off the exhaust and guns and maybe take a look at some modern warships, combine that with some pictures of a Civil War era ironclad deff add some bulk, more guns, or at least some railing around the deck.

If the idea is this is just the top of a submarine and the rest is submerged, then i get it, I'd still add at least some railing or a few more guns though.
