What was your dumb mistake in using a new model, the most memorable.

First time I used my stompa, it got stuck in combat with a necron lord on a chariot till turn 5. All the boyz around it got blasted and thanks to mob rule fled like cowards. So not only did I forget its secondary d weapon stomp attacks that might have got me out turn 2, but I forgot that all the boys are fearless around it. Roughly half my armies points went into this thing, and I dident even use it right. What hurt more was in the first turn the only thing it managed to kill was a single wraith, because of 3+ invuns. Oh also second shot with the supa gattla I rolled double 2s. Not a single shot hit from that at all.

warhammer 40k mmo. If I can drive an ork trukk into the back of a space marine dread and explode in a fireball of epic, I can die happy!

The first time I used my buggies I forgot that their weapons were TL.

They shot two turns, did absolutely nothing, and they got destroyed. And I was thinking to myself, Man, these things are terrible.

Then I realized they are TL later that day. How foolish of me.

The first time I tried out my homebrew Tomb Guardian with its proper model, I deployed it too far forward and it got glassed by one of those cheating DEldar guns on turn one before it even got to move.

How's this one? Against my Necrons, someone put a Spartan Assault Tank right at the front of their deployment zone, directly opposite a scarab farm...

My main opponent (the dice odyssey guy) also thought the same.

We learned at the same time haha. Im sure the other people I have played over the years may have kept the rule from me, but at the end of the day... I probably should have checked...

First time fielding Eldar at 500pts I charged in as if I were playing my old Tyranids, Falcon got destroyed Turn 2 by a pair of Plasma Guns and lucky dice, the Dire Avengers inside were wiped out Turn 3 after they couldn't hide in a bush properly and all in all, half my Army was gone because I didn't play to the superior range of the Falcon weapons... Now I have Rangers and things are looking up as I wise up and move into 750pts.

Still managed a win thanks to a Wave Serpent though and minimal enemy anti armor.

Not new models but new rules blunder. I was using GH right after 7th came out and I was still taking leadership tests for my counter attacks. I lost 2 very close league games where I failed all my counter attacks due to this. Then I read that I didn't need to take a Ld test. I didn't lose another league game. Also, my first game with the new SW codex, I forgot about the FNP bubble Ulrik provides. Luckily I only lost a couple GH out of that squad the whole game. The biggest new model mistake ever is buying an expensive vehicle, not using magnets for the weapons, and then realizing your current weapon loadout isn't working. I hate ripping models apart.

In my first game with my Imperial Knight, I shot a couple Marines dead and then charged an Ironclad Dreadnought, who promptly wiped the floor with the Knight. I remember being very tired and out of it, which is probably a large part of why I made an otherwise sort of obvious mistake.

SM Scout Bikers only have a 4+ armor save - I had for some reason assumed that SM Bikes conferred a 3+ save (sort of like Eldar Jetbikes). I had bought them under that impression (to use as cheap mobile scoring units), and even played a couple games that way, accidentally giving myself an advantage.

Back when you could outflank an entire platoon with Al'Rahem I was completely unaware that you could combine infantry squads...outflanked into a group of marines that promptly murdered them.

Also, figuring that my Leman Russ battle tank wasn't going to deviate into the large squad of guys running after a land speeder, I opted to fire at the speeder, hoping for a swift victory. It deviated back on to the squad, something like 15 casualties.

+1 for forgetting to roll FNP on a large pile of Noise Marines w/Icon.

Definitely made a mistake spending ~450pts on a unit of Chaos Terminators & Chaos Lord in a 1500pt game. Then Deep Striking them, getting a mishap, and for all intents and purposes teleporting into the bottom of a nearby ocean.

While the model wasn't exactly "new", it had never seen combat due to it being
1. based on a FW unit (a Malcador Infernus)
2. Apoc's are rare and one hasn't occurred recently.

Anyways. I decided I would use one of them (I have 2) for a 1500 point match against Orks. my opponent taloired his list to beat me through and through (he had faced me before several times and deeply feared my tanks, and I allowed him.)

The Ork player had planned to rush trukks full of tankbustas and some bikers with a claw at me to get my tanks with a huge mass of Lootas in the rear and a Weirdboy trying to summon demons (I thought it strange Orks can do that, but it was a non-factor in the end).

As his trukks and bikers advanced I moved up the Infernus waited for them (and my turn). Unfortunatly the Lootas unloaded into the Infernus and glanced it to death. personally I didn't think it would happen and it came down to luck. I thought the front armor 13 would hold against the barrage. But I still managed to obliderate the ork rush and beat down the Lootas and the bloodletters the Weirdboy summoned (which I still think is just weird that they can do that.... I mean seriously! Orks summoning Demons of Khorne? or demons in general!) It came out to a tie in kill points.

Still was disappointed my Infernus didn't get to kill a ton of orks with its huge flamer template of DOOM. Oh well... I have an Apoc on the 31st so hopefully Ill get to cook (or freeze, the other is a Cryo Tank!) a ton of things.

Modeling wise? Spending $30 on a brand new box of DA Company Veterans before realizing how worthless they are. They now exist as special Sergeants or Special weapons guys.

Tactics wise? DSing my Deathwing termies with 2 TH/SS and 3 Lightning claws. I did not realize you could not charge after deepstriking.

Not sure this really counts. But I started playing 6th edition after a 20 yearish hiatus after 3rd edition came out and I just hated it. So, one of my first games was against a 5th edition Grey Knights army with my new 5th edition Tyranid codex. Long story short I charged a Dreadknight with a brood of 3 carnifexes and watch it kill all 3 in one turn, they didn't even get to make an attack roll, just hammer of wrath, which did nothing. Damned force weapon with rerolling everything.
