I'm getting some of my mates into Necromunda (then hopefully Infinity in the future).

Are there any good guides for making plastic Necromunda gangs out of the current GW plastics?
I've got one friend wanting to play Eschers and another wanting to play Goliaths.
Thankfully I hung on to my metal Van Saars all these years

One of the first things I did was create my own hive. One on a world where it was a little "rougher". Mutants and evil gangs abounded. This opened a lot of doors for me.
1. Chaos cultists from dark vengeance- use them as they are. only minor conversions needed as you expand.
2. Chaos beastmen look pretty cool as a feral gang and spare 40k weapons convert onto them easily.
...
Pretty much any fantasy/0k army with minor conversions. Of course, some races have guns/weapons that necromunda doesnt really have rules for or carry guns that are only available on certain rolls or have extra special rules (we'll be back) that dont really translate well. For those, you have a few options. 1. use them just for looks and convert the proper weapons onto them and ignore other special rules or 2. leave those particuler models out using something else instead (save them for NPCs in special games).
Overall, whatever models you think look cool and match the gang you want to use.

a box of wyches should sort an escher gang
catachans get used as orlocks
marauders as goliaths
i used empire archers for my delaques
bretonian infantry can work well as cawdor
eldar guardians can work on van saar
a gang can be made from one box of the above they just need some spare cultist/guard/marine weapons
if you explain that you can get into a game for around £20 then it shouldnt be too hard to get another 3 people involved for full house representation

Goliaths can be done pretty well with orcs/orks with catachan heads, gives them a slightly pea headed, over muscled goofy look but it works.
Dark elder wytches make good esher.
There are still plenty of companies that make good alternative models too!

You aren't going to find much in plastic for Delaque. Your two best options are Heresy Gangers which are top flight sculpts. Not cheap, but not GW prices either. Also, they've got most of what you need, so there isn't too much conversion required.

Altenatively, ERM Slicks are ridicuously cheap at about $2 usd each, but will require a bit more conversion.
http://shop.eastridingminiatures.co.uk/slicks-89-c.asp

They are in the "25" section, but they are solidly 28mm or bigger.
Only 7 sculpts in the range, though there are a couple of trencoated figs in a sister range here that might also work.

The Heresy figs are absolutely beautiful, but I do really like the somewhat cartoony look of the slicks, and the price is hard to beat.

The Heresy miniatures are hugely expensive and not worth it IMO. I'm thinking of getting some of these as not-Delaques if I can't get hold of the real thing for a decent price.

Why do you say not worth it? They aren't cheap to be sure, but from what I've seen they're top shelf sculpts and just only about 15% more than you'd pay for similar figures from a company like Reaper, who doesn't offer any sci-fi factions nearly as expansive.

They're too expensive for my budget, but I wouldn't say they aren't worth it.

That 25 model deal is £92 - that's £3.68 per model which I think is probably even more expensive than GW prices given that you can pick up the original Delaques on Ebay for less per model than that. Not only that but that is the best deal available - if you want less figures you start paying more like £4 per figure. For a game like Necromunda, which for me personally is only ever going to be a game I play fairly infrequently, ie. not a 'main' game, that's way too much money for single minis when there is enough choice out there to warrant buying something else. That's what makes it not worth it in my mind - you can get the same or similar for less money elsewhere.

I didn't realize the originals were cheaper on ebay. I'd probably do that, but that's mostly because I really like the style of the original necromunda figures.

The guy (or girl) who made those mini's should really find a caster or something. Printing is just too expensive!

But yeah, as for making gangs, I've seen a lot of people using the Chaos Marauders as a basis. The plastic Chaos Cultists also make great gangers!

I am speaking for myself - that's what in my opinion means.

They are indeed fantastic - they are also bloody expensive. Again, for a skirmish game that I need maybe 10-15 figures max, paying £4 per figure when I can get similar for cheaper, for a game that I am not going to play as regularly as others, doesn't make it financially viable for me. YMMV - some people are golden daemon standard painters who can justify paying high mini prices as their end results make every mini look like a work of art. My childish daubings do not, however.

Great suggestions. I would add:
If you can get enough, the trenchcoat body from Empire Militia for Delaque, high elf archer bodies can work too
Empire Flagellents for Redemptionists, Bretonian archers, men at arms and high elf archer bodies can work too
Wargames Factory female survivors for Esher, their amazons can also work with a lot of conversion, female wood elf bodies might also work
Flaggellents and zombies for scavies

good luck!
