From what I understand it is the Constitution class, so get ready for Spock with a goatee

Another tiny Constitution-class or a proper-sized TOS-era version?

Thanks once again Mr B. I don't really want to have to wait until June to be able to flesh out my Ferengi, but at least there's the Gorn and Tholians to keep my 'oddball' fleets going before then.

I'm hoping for good things from the cards as well, Shinzon was Picard's clone, after all... And the nosferatu Reman Ron Pearlman guy will be the second captain I guess.

And some form of evil borg-breaking cards, non unique, to take the ridiculous edge off them.

Shinzon getting a card in STAW is something like Jar Jar Binks getting one in X-Wing.

You just wait until the Neelix card drops.

I am with you. I love the idea of romulans getting a new beefy ship, but I hate just about everything from Nemesis. The Reman subrace was crap and very bad writing. I generally just pretend it never happened. What I may do is make a custom card for Admiral Mendek with Shinzon stats.

I really liked the premise of the Remans, especially in the expanded background that explains them, not as another alien species, but as the slave caste of the Romulan people, de-evolved over the thousands of years living underground on the inhospitable planet of Remus. I also loved the bit about them being used as shock troops in the Dominion war... Shinzon though, was rubbish, and I wasn't exactly thrilled at the physical appearance of the Scimitar, or the notion that the Remans had built it without any Romulan noticing it...

... And I may buy the Neelix card just to burn it... The mandogfish in the suit made from 90s hotel curtains is far far worse than jarjar...

IMO Neelix is just the rancid icing on the rotten cake of VOY, a show that exemplifies every overbearing aspect of 90s Trek. That gif is particularly suitable given Tuvok was probably the only worthwhile character on that show. And somehow it's still better than Abrams Trek.

Speaking of which, how long util we have 'alternative universe' ships in this game?

You think the Vengeance will be a prize ship? With a a RoboCop captain card? And of course Khan will himself be a ship rather than an upgrade card since in the movie he is basically a Space Marine Primarch.

I've recently got the wife to watch DS9 over again, which we both really enjoyed (past the wobbly first series) and have now moved onto rewatching the really nicely remastered original series, the now-decidedly dated looking and somewhat wonky Next Generation and the quite enjoyable hit and miss of Enterprise, we've got all three running and are managing to enjoy bits of them all.

She won't watch voyager, I've been watching it whilst she's out, purely for the ships and races, and it's just tragic how bad a series it is. I did really like the Doctor character, didn't mind Janeway in bits and can stare at 7o9 once we get to her series, I quite liked Tuvok but the rest of the crew I'm either neutral about (torres, kes, paris) or I actually can't stand (cardboard cutout 'native' Chakotay, the totally awful Hairy Quim and that blistered gak poor man's ripoff Quark, Neelix).

I watched that episode the other day where they tried to cash in on the success of the frankly amazing DS9 episode 'Duet', by replacing Kira and the Cardassian's Jewish and Nazi confrontation with Neelix as a Japanese nuke survivor and some dodgy alien scientist as Oppenheimer... It was terrible. It was worse knowing that they'd directly tried to tug heartstrings and nudge at real world issues not for storytelling, but to make a cash grab.

We already have Mirror Universe ships, I'm unaware of any other 'alternative universe' ships... Totally unaware, as you should be...

I am among the few that actually like Voyager. Neelix actually gets ok once they got rid of Kes. I will watch Neelix any day over Wesley. Will Wheaton is right up there with Haden Chritiansen for acting ability. Kes and Harry Kim are the only characters I could do without. I own DS9 and Voyager because they are my favs, but my trek taste differs from most. I rank my trek as follows:
1)DS9
2)Voyager
3)TOS
4)Next Gen
5)Enterprise

It is tough to put Next Gen near the bottom, but if I had to choose I would take TOS first. Thank goodness netflix brings them all to us.

The Neelix Hiroshima episode is no where near as bad as the "Symbiosis" episode of Next Gen, also known as "don't do drugs Wesley".

Just as a matter of concept, B'Elanna could have been interesting on DS9. I think being an outsider in a society that does not actively shun you was and remains an urgent theme. Then again DS9 already had a more novel take on that with Odo. Buttered into the pastel blather of VOY, however, B'Elanna can only manage to be yet another irritating nobody aboard a ship cooler than all its crew combined. The irrelevance of VOY was so obvious (especially compared to what was going on in DS9) that the producers practically had to make it about fighting the Borg just as Seven of Nine had to be introduced thanks to the show's oppressive frumpiness.

It's a shame especially because the Intrepid-class is very neat. With TNG and DS9, we had these huge sets. VOY recalled the closer-quartered naval feel of TOS. I also liked that the producers wanted to get back to the exploration theme after DS9 effectively became a spirit quest through the carnage of war. But really who cares about the Delta Quadrant? How can that even begin to compare to the Dominion War? Even as a matter of Attack Wing, it's hard to fathom why anyone would want a Kazon ship except to run reinactments of VOY episodes.

IMO, ENT really did what VOY set out to do much better. It's a shame it got cut. I would have loved to see the Romulan War. Imagine the ships we'd have for STAW!

For me:

1 - TOS
2 - ENT
3 - DS9
4 - TNG
5 - VOY

Hard choice between ENT and DS9 for second but ultimately ENT feels more trekkish. DS9 is the latent but no less moody adolescence of Star Trek. It is so wonderfully weird and did the franchise a huge favor by making the galaxy feel more like a living world. And Sisko is probably the most fascinating character in all of Trekdom. But ultimately, it is an outlier rather than a paragon.

It had tons of potential, it was just that what we got was so poor.

They literally had a blank canvas to work with, and we got...? The Ocampa, the Neelix people and the feckin Kazon... How, after the Romulans, the Dominion, the Borg, how the hell were audiences supposed to take the Kazon seriously, with their dogpoo hairdos, fake tartan and giant plodding ships that Kirk Era federation could take on and beat?

And seska, how much more interesting would she have been if she were a human, not 'oh, well it's ok, she was from an 'evil' race all along' but an actual starfleet human showing weakness, greed, fear and anger, so far from civilization.

Such wasted potential.

I really hope the Attack Wing foray into the Delta Quadrant doesn't get too involved, there were far too many single show ships and races, not enough to make full factions.

LOL I had completely forgotten about Seska. Proves your point though.

And yes the Kazon are awful. But they have/are getting at least two ships blargh!

Well in a way we got that jekyll/Hyde thing out of Seska. She was making as a Bajoran. Outside of Ki Winn we don't really see any of them that are evil, ambitious yes, but not evil. I liked how she turned out to be cardassian. If any of the alpha quadrant races could be evil it is the cardassians.

Outside of the Kazon and 8472 I think all the other Delta quad races will be independent.

If the producers would have stuck with the original concept the Kazon would have been cooler. Originally they were to be modeled on the LA street gangs of the 90s. Young, angry, sect oriented, with firepower they don't understand. They got away from that, but they really tried to do too much in seasons 1-2. Every race in Voyager had a limited life span though because they were moving through so much territory.

My only real disappointment with Voyager was the the Equinox storyline was too short There was soo much potential there to make that a season long arc, but they wanted to get back to the Borg. It would have been nice to see more of Captain Ransom and his battered ship.

Oh you know you want to throw down some Kazon Is it a sign that you have a problem if you own more than one Kazon ship

I don't play Star Trek Online, but they are going into the Delta quadrant now. I am curious as to what they will do with the Kazon.

Seven of Nine: The Borg encountered a Kazon colony in the Gand Sector, grid 6920.
Neelix: Were they assimilated?
Seven of Nine: Their biological and technological distinctiveness was unremarkable. They were unworthy of assimilation.
Neelix: I didn't realize the Borg were so discriminating.
Seven of Nine: Why assimilate a species that would detract from perfection?

...and that's how gak the Kazon are, the borg turned them down, not even a pity-assimilation...

Of course Enterprise SHOULD have focused on Earth's early exploration and the Romulan War, NOT trips to Qo'Nos in the pilot, a previously unmentioned devestating attack on Earth and the crap "temporal cold war"

For a good while, ENT did focus on exploration with just a dash of interstellar intrigue here and there. The Temporal Cold War did bog things down way too much but the series recovered and went back to its roots, with Romulans manipulating Vulcans and Andorians. I would have loved to see the War itself, which would likely have been season 5.

Man, if I'd known we were ragging on Voyager, I'd have been in here sooner...man, I hated that show. I've been working my way through the other series, though. At some point I will have to go back and watch all of Voyager, but that's not happening until I finish up DS9, TNG, and TOS. And probably Enterprise. I haven't watched any of that show.

So, what's this Romulan War?

So, what's this Romulan War?

The Romulan/United Earth war lasted from 2156 until 2160, Earth was supported by it's new allies, the Andorian, Tellerites, Vulcans and others (you see the building of these relationships in 'Enterprise', the Romulans had been tinkering and attacking with drone ships to promote fighting among these races, but Earth managed to call them out and this led to a formal alliance.

Earth ended up, along with it's allies, kicking the Romulans where it hurt and driving them back until the foundation of the neutral zone. The early Federation was established in the aftermath of this, with the above mentioned races forming it's central core.

So, the Romulans, through trying to be clever and set everyone off against each other, created The United Federation of Planets...

Had 'Enterprise' been allowed to continue as a series, these events would have all been played out and we'd have seen the full show of the Birth of the Federation... Ah well.
