Who would be the foremost Champion of each of the Legions? If there was to be a competition between each of the Legions, for the honour of the Legion, who would be the foremost Champion each would send forth. Some are obvious but there are a few I can't figure out. The Competitions cover a range of activities including Marksmenship, simulated survival exercises against holographic enemies, brotherhood (teams of 3) and ending in a tournament of single combat. Assume that this is under friendly terms (no killing, or Chaos powers or the like) and each Legion sends forth a single Champion. Also assume this is after the Council of Nikae because use of Psychic powers would not be appreciated by some Legions. NO PRIMARCHS.

Dark Angels ???
Emperor's Children ???
Iron Warriors: Forrix, The Breaker, First Captain and Triarch of Perturabo
White Scars ???
Space Wolves ???
Imperial Fists: Sigismund
Night Lords: Sevetar, Captain of the Atramentar.
Blood Angels: Raldoran, Chapter Master
Iron Hands ???
World Eaters ???
Ultramarines ???
Death Guard ???
Thousand Sons ???
Luna Wolves/Sons of Horus: First Captain Ezekyle Abaddon
Word Bearers ???
Salamanders ???
Raven Guard ???
Alpha Legion ??? (No pun intended).

dark angels- Luther, he was Johnson's right hand man, and the second strongest angel next to Johnson. (without full astartes upgrades as well!)

smurfs: idk, they never really had a champion. it was either all guilliman or the entire legion for the most part :/

blood angels: I would argue that belongs to Azkaellon

Righto, For the World Eaters I would say Kharn as he is the equerry to his Primarch Angron, he is also one of the best pit fighters in his legion. Essentially the first captain of his legion.

Again for The Ultramarines, their first captain Marius Gage as he was second only to the Primarch in his legion.

For the Word Bearers, Argel Tal, one of the first true possessed chaos space marines. He is Gal Vorbak and has bested Custodians in hand to hand combat. Plus he is just badass

I would like to contest these decisions for arguments sake and to get debate and conversation going.

In the case of Kharn, I would argue based on his characterisation in Betrayer, and also that of Argel Tal, where neither particular care or try hard in the arenas because its not a "Real" battle. Also note that Argel Tal can't use his Possessed powers, its a friendly tournament, akin to the Imperial Fists' (40k) Feast of Blades, and also tests the contestant's ability to work as a team, marksmenship and survival vs innumberable (literally) hordes of Orks.

Are we going to first blood on this or to the Death, cause if it was to the Death then I would still stand by my choices, but fair play if it's first blood.

If first blood then for the WE I would say either Kargos Bloodspitter or Delvarus

Well the duel is first to inflict a significant wound on the opponent. Something that stops them fighting without killing them. Broken leg, cracked ribs, pierced through, etc.
The other categories are marksmenship (most shots on target with the same bolter model from the furthest distance), survival (longest time), and brotherhood (teams of three, last team standing with simulated rounds and non-lethal duels) in a Capture the Flag match.

Yeah in that case I can't see Kharn taking it too seriously then, probably bloodspitter or Delvarus then.

I'd have to say that the Alpha Legions champion would probably be Alpharius.

I second Raiden's nomination of Azkaellon for the Blood Angels over Raldoron. Azkaellon was leader of the Sanguinary Guard, which fulfilled a similar role to 40k's honour guard or command squad. In a sense he was already serving as something similar to 40k's company/chapter champion.

imperial fists: Sigismund. Dorn's right hand and one of the best swordsman in the galaxy, Sigismund is the clear champion of the imperial fists.
emperors children: eidolon. even before the legion's descent to madness, eidolon was a brutal and shallow man. he lived even through decapitation (assisted by fabius bile) to serve the legion as it fell into the grip of the now daemon-possessed Fulgrim and the forces of slaanesh.
world eaters: kharn. the calming hand of angron, kharn was a noble and honourable warrior during the great crusade, and were it not for erebus, he surely would never have felled into the deep madness that would lead to his title of betrayer.
word bearers: Argel tal. champion of the possessed, argel tal represented the word bearers' vision for all astartes, yet somehow, even in the depths of absolute chaotic influence, managed to remain a noble and honourable warrior.
night lords: captain sevetar. a cruel, cunning, and uncharacteristically
death guard: callos typhon. the first captain of the death guard, tython guided the legion, along with mortarian, into chaos.
thousand sons:
iron warriors:
alpha legion: alphaarius. ALL OF THE HIMS.
luna wolves/ suns of horus: ezekial abbadon. obvious reasons.
dark angels: luther. the lion's right hand man, most trusted advisor, and surrogate father.

Thousand Sons would be either Ahriman or Phosis T'kar. Sadly, I am only recently becoming interested in Ahriman, so I don't know a whole lot about his abilities during the Great Crusade/Heresy era.

My pics for each legions champion

I. Dark Angels-Paladin Corswain->Held his own against First Captain Sevetar of the Night Lords who is already considered to be one of the best swordmasters of the legions. One could make an argument for Luther but he is not astartes and there is no concrete evidence of what his skill was with a blade post contact with the imperium (After the orders knights into Astartes). There is evidence stating that no matter how augmented a human could be he could never equal that of an Astartes

III. Emperors Children-Captain Lucious-no contest. Alleged to be one of the preeminent blademasters of all the legions with only Sigismund and Sevatar possibly being better.

IV. Iron Warriors-Not much evidence to go on here. I would say either the Warsmith or Forrix. The former would go on to be a demon prince and the later would be a captain in his warband.

V. White Scars-??? Not enough evidence

VI. Space Wolves-Bjorn the Fell Handed-Went on to be the first great wolf. Went up against one of the Thousand sons best sorcerers and defeated him. Went up against Magnus the Red himself after he was confined to a dreadnought.

VII. Imperial Fists-First Captain Sigismund-No contest. considered one of the best blademasters in the legion Astartes

VIII. Night Lords-First Captain Sevatar-reasons stated above

IX. Blood Angels-Azkellon

X. Iron Hands-First Captain Gabriel Santar-Evidence for this is kinda weak. Survived being basically cut in half. Almost killed first captain Julius Kaernson of the emperors children.

XII. World Eaters-First Captain Kharn-deadly reputation amongst the legion very skilled hand to hand combatant. One could make a case for Captain Delevarous (SP) Kharn was defeated by Loken in Galaxy in flames. Although Kharn did wipe the floor with Erebus who wiped the floor with Loken

XIII. Ultramarines-Captain Oerfeo-Was able to go toe to toe with both Kharn and Argel Tal. Killed 10 world eaters without breaking a sweat. So fast that Kharn was impressed by his skill. Took Angron himself to beat him.

XIV, Death Guard-First Captain Calas Typhon-Blood of Barbarus warlords in him. Master Psyker. No death guard wants to mess with him. Definitely the best.

XV. Thousand Sons-Chief Librarian Arhiman. One could argue phosis Tkar but I think Arhiman gets the edge for not succumbing to the flesh change.

XVI. Luna Wolves/Sons of Horus-First Captain Ezykle Abbaddon. Hands down best of the luna wolves no questions

XVII. Word Bearers-Chapter Master Argel Tal. Took down Custodes/Ultramarines and anything else that got in his way. Died with a knife in his back.

XVIII. Salamanders-??

XIX. Raven Guard-Battle Brother Nykona Sharrowkyn-Fist Astartes to successfully/unsuccessfully kill Lucious. Had the ability to "wraith slip". Arguably the fastest Astartes.in the legions

XX. Alpha Legion-Alpharius obviously!

If not Alpharius himself (or himselves), then the Alpha Legion champion would probably be Armillus Dynat from the third Horus heresy rulebook, who sparred with Marius Gage, and within the legion held the command rank of 'Harrowmaster', being highly proficient with combat, tactics and strategy.

'He was known to have been a formidable strategist with a penchant for unorthodox but highly intricate attack plans often designed to pull apart and maim enemy formations before delivering a killing blow. Additionally, he was known to be a master of integrated close air support and armor combined arms tactics.'

But yeah, probably Alpharius.

Alpha Legion would've sent Sheed Ranko, Master of the Lernean Terminators, Ingo Pech, First Captain, or Mathias Herzog, Second Captain. Maaaaaaaaybe Exodus. Armillus Dynat, while obviously a skilled fighter, was a tactician and strategist foremost.
