I just snagged a copy of Nagash and began reading various parts of the storyline as I'm super excited to see it move forward. Anyone else read through it yet? I've yet to read more than a chapter and a half (not in order mind you), and it's already like Game of Thrones.

Anyone begun reading through it yet? After reading what I've read...

Big Spoilers. Take Caution!
Spoiler:
So much death... Gelt has betrayed the Empire to join Nagash, Crom is dead, Franz is dead, Settra is dead... So much death!

I can only imagine where they're going to take this series, and I'm definitely looking forward to reading the rest of this book. Thoughts from anyone?

Gelt was kind of tricked into it, The Changeling set him up, and Vlad didn't help by giving him some extra reading material. Karl Franz survived the fall, as did his Griffon, Settra is alive and possibly now aided by Chaos.

But ya, there was quite a bit of death. King Kazador had always been one of my favorite Dwarf Characters, although his model was extremely dated and Heinrich Kemmler was my favorite Necromancer model and character of all time. Eltharion, King Louen, The Fey Enchantress, possibly Thorek Ironbrow. I'm sure I'm missing some, but it was a lot to take in for one book!

I liked the bit with King Phar, all the rest of the Tomb Kings aside from those that weren't killed in the final battle with Settra bent the knee, and he's like "Nah, I'm going out like a real King should!" Dies futilely. He was never a major character outside of Tomb Kings fluff, but the way he died endeared him to me!

Karl is still kickin just fine, but Volkmar is dead (literally used as the vessel for Nagash).

Some other highlights:

Kislev is gone.

Everqueen is dead.

Teclis is a Machiavellian bastard (and good at it).

Apophis seems dead.

Nagash is now Nekharan god of the underworld so no such thing as tomb kings magic anymore.

Skaven seemed to have taken over Esalia and Tilia in one of the most vauge explanations ever. Seriously, areas as large as the Empire are just taken over and we get like one paraghraph? Just my beef.

Apparently it means that he was Gilles le Breton this entire time.

As for the O&G their section seems to be saying that Grimgor is gathering powerful warbosses to his side for a great battle. Hopefully one of the future end times books will feature them more prominently.

Also (this is more of a guess of mine) in one of the side stories it seems that Teclis is working with a mysterious figure (I think it is Malekith) about how he sacrificed the evershild to resurrect Nagash as part of a plan to defeat the chaos gods.

Well. Considering Teclis isn't meant to talk to this person, and this person calls Teclis his nephew. It's pretty much obvious that it's Malekith.

I'd say its an absolute must to anyone that is a fan of the Warhammer lore. If you're not a fan of the ruleset, E-bay it, as I'm sure there are some WHFB players not at all interested in the lore part.

Is there any mention of Ogres in the end of times? I've seen people mention most other factions even if only in passing but nothing on them.

Ogres are given a passing mention.

Some tribes went north to fight against/with Chaos, some tribes went west to fight with/for the Empire, and what was left of Greasus Goldtooth's kingdom traveled west as a whole, since the Mountains of Mourn were erupting and in an uproar to the point where they couldn't stay, I think they called it the biggest Ogre migration since their first one where they fought and destroyed the Sky Titans.

There is a brief mention of an ogre mercenary and his band fighting with the Empire against the Chaos invasion.

Only faction not mentioned are the Chaos Dwarves, and that's kind of par the course, unfortunately.

I should've used a different word. Region, maybe.

Tilea, Estalia, Kislev and even the Great Bastion in the east are mentioned to various degrees, but what's going on in the Chaos Dwarf land (forget the name) isn't even given a passing mention.

Wasn't commenting on the status of Chaos Dwarves as an army.

It sounded more like Grimgor alone was too killy to lead, and Skarsnik alone was too sneaky to lead, but together they were going to make up the perfect combination of brutal and cunning. Curious to see how 2 huge OnG names (3 if you count Wurrzag) will play out when side by side. Especially given their specialties...

Ya, I thought the same. They called him a "great enchanter" and how he was defeated recently in the Grey Mountains or some such, which fits with the Genevieve stuff.

Honestly, I loved the book. I sincerely hope GW will get desperate and do the same thing for 40k; this is the first time I've actually gotten into Fantasy's fluff since first reading it all years and years ago.

The writing is excellent, they're not afraid to shake things up, kill people (though, oddly enough, only the ones with badly outdated models), and destroy whole civilizations and one god.

That being said, it was rather lazy just wiping out Estalia and Tilea; basically GW going, "Yeah, we're never doing Dogs of War again, that's what you get for liking pikemen and Italians."

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

Must say this thread is really making me want a copy to read!

It will be particularly interesting to see if any of these progressions in the story line are retconned by a new edition or when army books get updated next. Do we think that's likely?

I'm hoping that there's a Chaos End Times book that brings back Amon'Chakai. Nagash isn't the only Lvl5 in the history of the Old World.
