I'd say its between the Emperors Children and the Iron Warriors. I love the downfall and madness of Fulgrim and his legion. Then again I also liked the grim siege expert legion with the cool color scheme and Perturabo is just so unintentionally funny in Angel Exterminatus.

My favourite Chaos Legion is the one that has been burned to a crisp as Heretics.

Thousand Sons for me because they are good guys

It's a tough call between the Alpha Legion, as their fluff and ambiguous motives are fascinating, and they've got a very eye catching scheme, or Word Bearers, as basically they look awesome and really embody Chaos.

Dark Angels are a close third... Shhh, it's secret!

Surprised about Thousand Sons getting votes.

Not so much the Alpha Legion although I never really was sold on their motives and especially not their ability to hoodwink chaos.

Alpha Legion got my vote because of how outside the normal they are, but World Eaters are a close second. In white and blue they were an impressive Legion. And something about Kharn tickles me.

The old school Alpha legion were these hardcore jerks who strove to be the best at what they did, to the point of extremism. They followed Horus in the Heresy because he'd been Alpharius's closest brother and they actually enjoyed the idea of fighting other Space Marines as a true challenge. And then, when Horus lost and it had been revealed that they had been duped into following Chaos, they begain a bitter 10,000 year long campaign of insurgency warfare against the Imperium.


Somehow, that eventually got translated into them being the James Bond Marines, constantly pulling masks off like the end of Scooby Doo, and a Legion that seems to do everything except[.i] being Space Marines. Nothing about the modern Alpha Legion fluff makes any sense. They get tied up in these bizarre plans within plans, and dupes, and shenanigans, because apparently the writers at TBL and GW are dumb and lazy, and forget that the the Imperium [i]has people to be spies and sneaky and such, and that Space Marines are for conquering a galaxy. The Word Bearers got massively censured for wasting time building churches, but somehow the Alpha Legion gets away with doing even less constructive work, lol.



The reality is that somewhere down the line, the writers forgot that the Alpha Legion are the way they are in 40K because they have to be. They adapted to the role of sneaky insurgent gits because they're up against a massive galaxy spanning empire, and if they were to try to attack the Imperium in force, they'd have been crushed a long time ago. That was what made them cool (I played Alpha Legion in 2nd Edition because of this). They were evil Green Berets who carried on an endless guerilla war against the Imperium, often for reasons they couldn't even remember (they weren't denizens of the EoT or the Maelstrom so they were subject to the same passage of time as everyone else).

Now they're stupid Scooby Doo Marines. Everything about what the Alpha Legion does is lame now and worse, makes no sense.

It was a tough split between Thousand Sons, Death Guard and Word Bearers. In the end though the original Heretics won out because without the Word Bearers there wouldn't have been a Horus Heresy.

World eaters with night lords just a LITTLE behind

I read the lore and I get that the Thousand Sons looks good on paper... but as a mostly miniature painter non tabletop gamer, I need to say that they look ugly. The Egyptian look just kills it for me. I guess they must get alot of kills because the enemy is too busy laughing at their outfit. I'm going with Black Legion, you can't go wrong with black. It looks good on everyone. Also, Horus is a bada** mofo.

I prefer the WE. While their fall isn't as exciting or unique as some of the other legions, I think they exhibit chaos the best. The legion fully embraces chaos relatively quickly, and that is why they became one of the most feared legions.

I like the Iron Warriors. Their psychotic , paranoid geniuses who abuse chaos as much as chaos abuses them. They are also the most well equipped chaos legion aside from mabey the Black Legion. They see chaos as little more than a tool to be exploited. Its also stated that if they weren't taking constant losses in sieges they easily could have been the largest of the emperors old legions. Plus on top of all that, they can actually still produce their own war machines instead of relying on pillaging and the dark mechanics as much.

I personally like the masters of psychological warfare best of all, (Night Lords.) But the Black Legion is close behind.

Word bearers. Cause Lorgar is the biggest screw up ever. Hes the cleric of the party, and forgot that fact. He thought he could butt heads with Rowboat Girlyman, and totally screwed the pooch. Plus what's more chaosy than summoning demons?

The Thousand Sons are also a VERY close second. Maybe one day GW will come with cult/legion book...one day

Wow, I'm surprised at the number of votes the Thousand Sons got! It happens to be the only legion I play (yes, I've kinda wasted the majority of CSM codices since 3.5 til today by sticking to Thousands Sons armies). Love it!

They are the most loved cult despite being made of suck for several editions now.

Word Bearers for the win! Awesome paint scheme, awesome fluff, summoned daemons before summoning daemons was cool (or allowed, as far as the last few editions are concerned), is a big enough legion still with enough little warbands floating around to be able to provide a fluff-home for anyone and everyone's personal chaos warbands, and did I mention they look handsome as all hell?

Night Lords in 2nd place. GW just needs to update their helmet bits. They're a little clunky.

Such a shame that Tsons suck so bad on the tabletop.

Unfortunately you can only vote for one.. And I cant decide.. I realy like Thousand Sons, and Death Guard, And Word Bearers.. The others I dont realy care about, But those three are my favorites by far.
