I'm in a family rich neighborhood. We had tons of kids last year, starting at around 3 PM!

2x 5lb bags of candy ran out fast. I did partake a bit, though...

No idea. Ever since we had a brat argue with my wife and demanding more candy than her fair share we stopped keeping anything. So on Halloween we hide out in the basement and play the Xbox

Well, to be fair, he DID try and attract kids up the drive way for candy... just so they could be bear candy

Our area is seeming to get worse every year. We used to leave a bucket out with candy as we took the kids out. Then it turned into a bowl. I'm thinking this year we won't even bother.

Spoilered because joke may be in poor taste, and I know there's a lot of sensitivity to that kind of stuff (jokes) going around.

Spoiler:

My area is getting worse too. Are... are you supposed to catch and release?

None. We hang a sign out asking that no-one call as we have a baby sleeping. I'm not American so I don't celebrate made up American holidays.

Non last year as I lived in a block of flats. I only moved in to my house this year. I'm hoping for non as I don't like kids going to strangers houses asking for sweets and it's just not the done thing in the UK, but as I live in a little village I will have to have some sweets just in case.

At my folks place we used to do between 500-600 kids at least. Manchester used to do their trick-r-treating at night on a different day than my town, so all the kids hop on their bikes to cross the bridge and do two days of it.

Since we've all gone to the same haunting hours, the numbers have become more manageable. Though we do seem to be getting more teens then we used to in the past, seems the pressure to stop when hitting 13 is no longer quite as great.

My current residence in Salem, however, gets no one. Three flights of stairs tends to scare most kids away

Though the whole city becomes a zoo for Halloween anyway.

I don't know.

We typically leave a big bowl full of candy on the doorstep while we take the kids out and by the time we get back it's usually empty or close to it.

In England it's more common for kids to throw eggs at peoples houses instead of pretend scaring through masks and such. However at my parents place we do get "carol singers" who are kids (often up to 15yo) who sing "we wish you a merry xmass" for some cash. Makes me laugh as when i answer the door they are surprised or intimidated as they think this road is full up of elderly people who will just give them cash straight up, no questions asked. But i do give them 20p each little *****, i know the scam to well, i used to do it myself

Regarding Halloween again, i think it's a shame England has lost most of it's community spirit with such holidays/ events. I'd welcome kids making the effort for what is harmless fun.

Thats just Jihadin's way of saying his house is the cabin at the end of the woods and you sure got a purty mouth...

At the Austin house we typically give away 4 -5 bags of candy-strictly the good stuff.

None in my area.
But we don't really go in for the occasion 'round these parts.

Stores sell craploads of pumpkin shaped candy buckets, and stuff - but I never see any of it.

Still, I'm usually out celebrating my birthday with the mrs, so no-one's home, the lights are off, and the sprinkler is on a motion sensor.

It's not that I don't like kids (well, maybe it is) - I just don't want them on ma lawn.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

last year we got one. i was the only one home, and panicked 'cause i'd been asleep and gave the kid a full, unopened bag of chocobabies i brought for myself. the worst part is that as the kid and her mum were walking away i heard her whisper "noone likes these candy" I do.
we usually don't get trick-or-treaters, and i've only ever gone once when i was real little.
also, black bears are cool.

I just moved into my current area a few months ago, so we'll see. But from what it looks like, I think there's only three families in my neighborhood with kids young enough to trick-or-treat.

We only ever had maybe 1-3 show up so now we just keep the lights off (no point in us buying stuff for 2 kids). The area has plenty of kids going around - our street is just a dead end so not really worth the effort for them.

I live in a target rich neighborhood, lots of houses close, tons of kids. People who live elsewhere come to do the circuit around the development. I can’t really complain though, as we often have some of our younger cousins over to go around with The Boy. I think I buy 6-8 bags a year, but always end up with extras. Even when I start giving out handfuls at the end of the night.

Rule #1 of buying candy to give out: Only get the stuff you like, so you enjoy the leftovers.

There's a story there, I'd like to hear.

That's pretty much it. My better half was handing out candy one Halloween and she got one brat who wasn't happy with what she got, so she stood on our porch and demanded more candy and better candy. Kept up her tantrum. Was told she needed to go. Wouldn't listen so her guardian had to be waved over (because the person responsible for said brat seemed to have an outbreak of spontaneous deafness that prevented them witnessing their precious daughter having a melt down). So that was that.
After that episode we'd buy in some good candy for the neighbourhood kids and make sure they got it, but they are all past the age of trick or treating. We just have to cope with the brats who get bused in and their handlers who think that the best course of action on a dark night is to walk line abreast down a poorly lit street with nothing to aid visibility.

I thought Rule #1 was buy the cheap stuff for the trick or treaters, and buy the good stuff for yourself

Since my family all gets dressed up and goes out trick-or-treating we just bring the candy bucket wit us and hand out candy as we run across other trick-or-treaters.

I guess we give out between 75-100 pieces of candy.

I actually think it's kind of cool to look at the history and the progression of the holiday, as the significance of Trick or Treating stems from practices in the UK way back in the day (as in, before even Frazz was born)
