Just wanted to ask Dakka how many different armies they play.

And by army I mean actual different races/factions, and not different chapters, warbands, etc.

E.g. a person playing Ultramarines, Imperial Fists, Tau (which he stopped collecting and sold on ebay) and Eldar would be collecting 2 factions.

Also, miniatures you have amassed that do not number enough to be fielded as a coherent army don't count. So your chaos, ork or tyranid minis from the various starter sets for example dont count unless you have bolstered them to make legal armylists.

Personally I play Black Templars, Eldar, Tau, AM, GK and Necrons, so 6, and also have a small force of Bluhd Rehvenz on the way.

The reason for this poll? To get a general idea how many different flavors the dakka community embraces. Each race/faction is its own unique style, so I was curious how "into" 40k the community was at large.

I actively play three - Space Marines (my retro Ultras, modern/retro Crimson Fists, and Dark Angels) Chaos Space Marines, and Imperial Guard. I've got a second Guard army, Orks, and some armies I painted when I was a lot younger, but Marines, Chaos, and Guard are the three I still play regularly.

Eldar, Tyranids (kinda sorta) and Space Marines, but likely going to start an Inquisition and Deathwatch army but since Deathwatch is still Space Marines with multiple Chapter Tactics, I don't think that'd count either.

I play Chaos Space Marines, Daemons and Tyranids primarily, with Daemons being my best. I dabble in Imperial Guard, and will play the various Marines every now and again.

I'm going to start playing Eldar soon- I've always liked Eldar but the constant whining about their overpowered units has dissuaded me from doing so- same with Tau.

Currently I play Farsight Enclave Tau and Elysian Drop Troops for my two armies. However I am very much tempted to expand and build a Death Rider themed Death Korps of Krieg/Steel Legion army just because it would be awesome!

There is not this idea.

I have orks, and the tattered bits of an Imperial Guard army. The Imperial Guard used to be less tattered, but that's what happens when the tackle box they were carried in falls out of a movie car.

Still such a sad day.

Uhh, let's see.

Sisters of Battle, Space Marines, Imperial Guard, and Eldar are the armies I most commonly play. I also have a sizable Orks army, a small Tau army, a buncha Tyranids, a small Chaos Space Marines army, a tiny Daemons army, and that's about it.

I voted 4, since I don't particularly care about the ones I don't play. I keep them because I might get an itch to try some of them later.

Currently have a ever-growing army of Crimson Fists. I am inheriting the Space Wolves half of Stormclaw. As a secondary army, I probably won't go to a lot of effort of expanding it too much. I want to make it viable, and maybe a little capable, but not going to spend a ton on it. If they come out with a DE vs BA boxed set like Stormclaw, I might end up inheriting some BA as well if my brother-in-law wants to start DE since that is the army he said that, if he were to start playing, he would like to play the most. I don't know if I would keep them as BA or convert them into Crimson Fists. Depending on what is in this hypothetical boxed set, I would likely keep them as BA. So who knows, I could end up with three instead of two.

Starter set extras don't count, but what about fledgling collections you intend to expand? What about a single Imperial Knight? I'd only count them as a separate army if they were being collected in high enough quantity to be a pure Knight army.

I put 4. I have a lot of Chaos Marines and Tyranids (rough estimate is around 4000pts each), a very small Tau force (about 500pts or so), a Knight, and some assorted Eldar that I could comfortably do 700pts Unbound with.
