Title says it all, I'm wondering how competitive chaos dwarves are. Any help would be appreciated!

I like them, they are about as competative as regular dwarfs, but good luck finding/ converting hobgoblins.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

As above. They have some units that are now fixed (no -1 to wound making it impossible to wound certain units, for example) and the lore of hashut is pretty tasty. Works very well with the army , and is flavoursome.

The FW models are stunning, but wow are they expensive....

I find Tamurkhan CD tend to rub people the wrong way when they run into them at a GT, but some of that is likely just not knowing what the hell they do, as the book isn't necessarily widely read. CD seem to be a decent high-mid tier army overall, that definitely pays for all its nasty abilities, making armies small and relying upon Things That People Hate About 8E: deathstars, artillery, uber-magic.

Their lore, on the other hand, is perhaps the only really imbalanced thing about the FW rules. Some ridiculously OP spells in there, including the 'You Don't Get to Play Warhammer' spell, as I've heard it called (Ashstorm or whatever).

On the models, there was another thread about FW prices compared to WHFB ones, and I agree: FW CD are looking more and more affordable every new GW release

You don't have to take the broken stuff. An army with lots of hobgoblins, the normal K'daii (not Destroyer), etc can be a real softball. But they can be very competitive if you want them to be.

They're very decent and I would say better than normal Dwarfs as they have some more mobile and hard hitting elements.

Im thinking of starting an army of them. The book (i forget the name) is gorgeous and I fell in love with the fluff and beautiful art.

Does it even matter how much its utilized? There's rules, and there's models, so it's a usable force.

As a standalone army I think chaos dwarfs can do very well. But be sure to ask the TO if they are allowed since they are forgeworld. MOST will say yes but it is always a good idea to confirm it.

The big guy I've seen use them plays them monster mash style with a lvl4 on the flying bull & at least 2 or 3 other thing. I wouldn't know what they are as he converts them all.

Just trying to recall (ymmv I haven't seen them in months as he foccusses on DE now) This is what I remember

lvl 4 on Flying Bull

2-3 other monsters. One of them shot things

Dwarfs with guns

Kobolds for cheap chaff / big tarpit

Whats really funny is the Lore of Hashut is powerful yes....but if you really want to see CD roll face, the Lore of Metal is by far stronger. The Synergy that it creates with the army is sick. Although I do like using Ashstorm to shut down Nagash summoning shenanigans.

How do lore of metal work well with the CD?

The biggest weakness of the CD is the cost of the units, especially within your core requirement. Lore of metal makes your core cost efficient instead of deficient. 12 points a pop for a 1+ armor save 4/4 warrior of chaos, or giving blunderbuss +1 to hit, and now you are hitting on 3 instead of 4 with a bucket of shots. Also you need time for your war machines (the strength of the army) to do their work....the magic missiles take care of the high toughness/1+ armor save cav units that try to get to you quickly.

Scally skin is caused by a lore of metal spell yes? That is insane.

Also, fun fact. As per the Official GW releases out now, there has been an Ogre migration through the Chaos Dwarf lands. They're not there. GW has stated that the army doesn't exist.

TDA, seriously drop it.

The mods have already removed you & the others posts, cut the gak. We know your opinion already and contributing nothing by repeating yourself.

EDIT: to clarify I'm saying drop the attitude the whole "Fun fact", what you said is technically on topic.

Owning End Times Volume 1 and having just completed reading the fluff portions of it, I can tell you that although Ogres are migrating through the Chaos Dwarf held lands, they haven't yet completed said migration. Also, if you ever bothered cracking open the Ogre Kingdoms rulebook you would find the map contained therein to include various Chaos Dwarf holdings as well as explicit mention of the Ogres conducting business with said Chaos Dwarves. Also, the Hellcannon of Chaos is made by Chaos Dwarves, so theres that too... in fact GW once actually released Chaos Dwarf minis.

Also, GW has never stated the army doesn't exist. Anywhere.

But woefully inaccurate.

If I had all the money, I would buy and shred every copy of Tamurkhan. I would smash every Chaos Dwarf. I would grind every hobgoblin and centaur into dust.

That army and its lore have no business anywhere near a GT or tournament. 8 wound tanks, Kdaii Destroyers... A spell with infinite range, multiple wounds, and T test at -2 or be removed? Ash Storm?

It's the least fun army I've ever had the misfortune of playing, several times.

So your question?

It can win. Totally, it can win. But like Nagash and Friends, it won't make you any buddies in the process.

To be fair the tanks and destroyers are tied up pathetically easily if anyone has the slightest clue what they are doing, the spells are no more threatening than dwellers, purple sun etc.

Our core is pricey barring hobgoblins and they are little more than speed bumps unless babysat we rely on our war machines and magic to win us games. You sound rather bitter about the LoA, rather than complaining do some research into how to beat/counter these things. If LoA was anywhere near as potent as you say it would be coming top at a lot more tournaments.

Potency =/= relevancy. You have a gunline that can deny people entire games, Flames of Azhorgh is probably one of the most bent spells in the game, due to it providing two ways to kill a target. Toughness test or die, or take d6 wounds.

Ash storm is also bent due to it being able to lock down any single threat.

War machines are chaos dwarf war machines. You can't even tie them up with chaff because slave ogres.

Wolf Riders are horribly cheap chaff drops. If you are anywhere near vaguely competent with chaff, these guys are AMAZING.

600 points of core to house your wizards is good, considering they're 4+/6++ dwarfs, or 4+ dwarfs with halberds that shoot, and stand and shoot at the range of the unit champion's pistol.

His complaints are all well founded. The LoA is as well received as the slayer army in Storm of Chaos.
