Subject: The Bloggit: 19th September Gotham City Limits: Harley done! Catwoman, Nightwing and Firefly wip 2s

i have to say your harley is very good...she is exactly inbetween being a nutcase murderous looney and looking still as an innocent sweet lady...up until you receive the mallet you didn´t seeing coming because you scanned for to long her ... the new pigtails changed the character of that sculpt quite immensely...more than i could have guessed before...
also... the overgrown and out grown mausoleum is now looking very promising...
Thanks one and all.
Been busy putting finishing touches to stuff.
First, the vault.
Not Mr Freeze's hideout.
Honest.
And the overgrown Mausoleum, which crucially can support the weight of mini on the top:
Not an Ivy hideout...
Catwoman:
(Fuzzy) butt shot to show litter
And Nightwing:
PITA...
And, Firefly
Again, fuzzy butt, apologies.
Pleased with how things have gone. I'll need to get a mass terrain pic soon! However, next project is a little something for the ViKtor of the LoER contest

actually...have you considered a little colour experiment? the ivy leaves you use for the creeping plants on the vault entry...if you switch the paint scheme there towards cold blue ...i wonder if this could also stand for ice....hmmm...
also... i wonder if it is possible to have your batman minis not in a grim dark paint scheme but more with striking lines and harsh contrasts like they are in the books... so that especially the nightwing doesn´t give you so much hardships...
Spoiler:
more this:

Well Nightwing was more horrible face sculpt. I have a big DC canvas much like that but I'm very pro ultra dark Gotham. Grimdark you might say.
Like the Ivy idea, got to try that

^ Thanks mate I'm really happy with him. Exactly what I was going for. Now to wait for Blackgate prisoners 2 (woo! 4 mooks!) and other goodies
In the meantime, a wee change of pace. First up, a K-wing, finally!
Missed doing tiny spess-sheeps. Good for a break and a breather.
Now, our good friend Vik has chosen, as his LoER prize "something steampunk". Rather than a scenery piece it's going to be a character model: Viktor, the Doomed Knight -
Upon his hellish stead, the accursed Knight is Doomed to ride across fields of war for all time. His armour, a belching prison of steel and steam, fuels his deadly jezail, where he seeks the deadliest of foes for his hunting pleasure... or chance of release. In his wake, a chittering rabble of stunted goblinoids squabble over the thin spoils of his victory.

K-wing looks great, and the Knight is coming along nicely!
It's OK, is an under the table job for Loeb Debating picking him up actually. There's so little Law but he's not great. It's the detective and brandon I'm keen on (well and Echo, but I made one of them already...) and thanks

and K-wing looks brutal....lots of firepower?
Glad you like the look of him I might try to get a pumpkin on the base for you then the backpack is from a csm rocket launcher guy.
K-wing is indeed an absolute beast. Can carry a huge amount of ordnance, it's a flying fortress. I love how it feels like a functional, practical, inelegant piece of kit. None of this smooth aesthetic, it's just a bomber from hell. Very military, but very believable for late Rebellion era.

Love painting spess-sheeps! Moar spess-sheeps!

Hola peeps,
I've made some progress lately, not much, but some.
Finally sorted out how to to brace the big eagle
Ah,tank parts!
And may have bought myself a desk toy
Been working on getting the steam-knight and his story together. He's on a base, with the plan to be smoke around the horse's hooves, and muddy battlefield all around.
Been working on the scrap gobber, grubbing around the leavings of the battlefield:
So, getting there.

didn´t expect to be that scenic of a model...cool!
what on earth is a scrap gobber? does he gob scrap? lol... reminds me now of a steampunk weird version of don quixote and sancho panza?
Well, gobbers are goblins in warmachine, so steampunk goblin junk collector. I may be channelling a bit of Labyrinth here glad you like where it's going

Sorry for disappearing, life etc. Lurking mostly, and not doing much else.

My work here is done!
Had another game of Batman this week. Tried my Ivy & Gotham Sirens. Wow, talk about your glass ninjas! Catwoman is very fragile, if scary fast. Harley with massive hammer is astonishingly good. One thing is that models are surprisingly durable in this, far more so than most game systems. Definitely a plus in my book - even the goons are stubborn.
Speaking of which. The fine folk of Knight Miniatures, who make the Batman minature game, reckon you can play the game with 2 starter sets. So let's put this to the test.
2 starters, with a bit of judicious online shopping, shouldn't set you back more than £40. With the rules and tokens available as free downloads, that's not bad - if it works.
So we begin with 2 starters, Commissioner Loeb's Gcpd and The Penguin.
Both sets feel like quality products. Cardstock on the stat cards is heavy-duty, style is neat. Maybe a little cramped, but looks good. I love the textured plastic bases, they're a nice touch, and add to the accessibility.
The models themselves are chunky but realistically proportioned. They captured the Penguin especially well, but they all have a cinematic realism to them.
Casting wise, you will find the odd mould line or bit of flash. As for Assembly, most are 2 or 3 part models. You shouldn't need to pin them, certainly.
So let's look at how well they go together.
Law
These are lovely models. The detective is a one-piece, Loeb's hand is inexplicably separate, and the other 2 are multi part.
Nice, clean builds all.
Penguin
Cobblepot and Co are a bit more intricate.
Still, fine with some patience. I dislike the pose of the baton guy so that may require some tweaking.
Worth it?The choice, dear reader, is yours. Ultimately, outlay can spiral as with anything. I think it's a fair investment in some rather marvellous toys, personally.
So, they're ready to play, albeit unpainted. Tune in next time Bat fans, same Bat-time, same Bat-channel (well ish) for a test run of the game with an uninitiated novice. Or something.
Also, Vik's prize progresses but it's not terribly clear from the pic, sorry :
All around and over the 40mm base will be flames, I think.
Also, the glorious Vik has decided that the next LoER contest has Got Wood
I'm going to keep things pretty simple this time around: a wooden billboard for my Gotham layout, made largely of coffee stirrers. We shall see how it goes!
Later y'all,

Great review bud, Almost tempted me to get some of the models. Then I realised I have to much to paint now

Nice selection of minis! I wish you could get that Detective and SWAT guy separately, though, I'm not a fan of Loeb or Branden.
They should pair pretty well, you've got no uber-heroes there that can unbalance things at low points (AK Bats or Big Bane can probably face most Starters on their own) so I'm interested to see how this plays out.
@Red Harvest: That's based on the version from Arkham City as far as I know,
