For historical buffs out there or people who wants to add archers and men-at-arms to their Fantasy armies without breaking the bank (but without suffering in terms of customization and quality), Perry just released their Agincourt box set. (images taken from Perry's website)

Other important bits:
Spoiler:

Shields for Men at Arms had more or less been dropped from use in the field as the armour became more complete, so there’s only one on the sprue (2 per box). All the visors are separate as is the 'orle' or decorated circlet which was typically English. Two of the bodies have jupons and the other four are in 'white' armour. These designed these so some of the arms from the Wars of the Roses sets are interchangeable, the shoulders are the same width at least. So with some of the 'white' armoured bodies (i.e. the ones in the great basinets) you should be able to bridge the 1440’s with the WotR arms.
The archers are represented in padded aketons, nocking, drawing and loosing as a cohesive body. We’ve included a few pairs for arms for close combat too. These will be available separately as you might want to raise the ratio of the archers to men at arms. The box contains 24 archers and 12 men at arms. With the archers there is also a trumpet arm, the men at arms frame includes a longer spear that can be used for a standard or banner. Commanders can be used from within the men at arms.

The box contains: 36 figures, unit bases, 17 banners, 6 standards, painting guide and information sheet.

Again, perfect to swell the ranks of my Game of Thrones armies. The fact that they're compatible with the WotR sets don't hurt either.

Wow, at them prices I want to find me some gaming buddies who play war of the roses or hundred years just as an excuse to buy them.

And the quality is to the usual Perry standard to boot.

@HMV - loved that one as well, but unfortunately those saurus warriors were always naff.

With those prices you can just buy the miniatures FOR your buddies. I mean, my collection is enough to build two armies, I think. And I can afford it because they're cheap.

Great job posting these here Heartserenade

If these are as good as the War of the Roses sets then they will be absolutely cracking.

Hmm... I've already bought a bunch of the WoTR boxes for some gaming in that period, but actually kind of prefer the older-style armour (bascinets and the like) of the Hundred Years war period. What to do! Arrghhh!

It occurs to me that I could build an entire basic Empire army out of Perry miniatures. And since Chaos Warriors/Orcs and whatnot are meant to be bigger than regular humans, they'd actually be more realistically sized as well.

I mean, they have pike troops, crossbows, cannons, longbows, mounted knights, knights on foot with two handed weapons for greatswords, and so on. Sure, you'd have to buy monsters elsewhere, but if there's one thing third party companies aren't short on, it's things like griffons (Titan Forge springs to mind).

Damnit now I want to start a Game of Thrones army!

In all honesty though I am just hoping that the Perry's make some Romans soon. I think that would complete my life pretty nicely...

Edit: Their website sure needs a few tweaks. Some larger pictures of the stuff they are trying to sell you would be a nice start!

It's really great, but I wish they hadn't of mixed in the Men at Arms with the Bowmen. People who just want the bowmen are now stuck with 12 Men at Arms per box. It's unfortunate, but is the only fault I can put with this set. The sculpts look absolutely fantastic, and will definitely be seen on a lot of tables in the future I bet.

If you can't already you will be able to buy the sprues separately.

Ahhh so you're right. Last time I looked at the accessories section in their plastic range it was for command sprues only.

It will be fine if you're buying direct from them, but it does shaft people who are overseas who prefer to buy locally. But that's the only criticism I can give for these miniatures. They are really fantastic.

In terms of sculpt quality/detail, the latest Perry miniatures absolutely knock the GW Empire/Bretonnian miniatures out of the park. They are probably one of the best plastic kits I have ever seen.

But, the point you have made about proportion and scale is an important one; the fist on a GW orc miniature is probably the same size as the entire trunk/torso of one of these miniatures. Also, consider the style; if you are collecting 'Empire' then it is more of a high-fantasy vision of historical units and you will miss that taking the Perry/historical route. For Bretonnian players the difference is much smaller, although I always think that players collecting that faction are really just historical players who don't know it yet, and need to take the next step!

In all honesty though I am just hoping that the Perry's make some Romans soon. I think that would complete my life pretty nicely...

There are some really good Roman plastics out there already, which could well be why Perry haven't done them. I personally like the Warlord plastic range for Imperial Romans, which is comprehensive. Although, there has been some criticism of the height of the miniatures. I have some pics of these in my gallery:
Spoiler:

Alternatively Victrix do a great range of Republican Romans which I have heard very good things about.

There is also Agema who have a few Roman kits out and I am 99% sure they are produced by Renedra.

Thing is though, I LIKE the fantasy setting for Warhammer. I deal with actual history for a living, and my wargaming gives me an outlet that's similar to the stuff I do for work, but not so similar that it becomes work, if you catch my drift. Games Workshop sculpts though, tend to be quite chunky, ludicrously overdone in terms of skulls, features and ornamentation, and insanely expensive to boot.

On the other hand, if you use Titan Forge, Ultraforge, a handful of the Mantic kits, a suitable array of Perry Miniatures, Shieldwolf, Scibor, Gamezone, and a few other places, you can conceivably play Warhammer games set in the Warhammer universe in a slightly more dark/realistic looking scale/setting against a variety of foes. There's enough suppliers out there to pick and choose appropriately from without much difficulty.

This really is the golden age of plastics. Perry infantry (and possibly Firegorge calvary) really have made bulding a high-quality non-GW Brettonian army an affordable proposition, and one that will be just as good looking. For notable characters, leaders, sorcerers, and such there are so many high-fantasy minis that are every bit as good, but much less expensive than GW.

As to the Empire, with it's Landschnekt-inspired-style (Poofy shirts and pants) is not quite there yet, but Pro Gloria is trying to get a plastic landschnekt kit out, so it may be possible soon.

If there's a thread of "historical minis with possible use for 40k", maybe we can make a thread called "historical minis with possible use for WHFB/Kings of War/Mordheim"?

Couldn't that simply be a thread titled "Good 28mm medieval miniatures"? If it's a Medieval miniature you can use it in KoW.

I would settle for a 'new historical minis' thread actually! There is loads of really good stuff coming out that I think a lot of the sci-fi/fantasy playing fraternity aren't aware of, but might well be interested in.

Seconded. Also, I'd love to see other companies use that stuff instead of restic. Soo much easier to work with.
