Former Obama aide Podesta regrets not disclosing UFO files
By James Rogers Published February 16, 2015

It looks like we won’t be seeing the real-life Mulder and Scully anytime soon, as least according to recently departed White House adviser John Podesta.

“Finally, my biggest failure of 2014: Once again not securing the #disclosure of the UFO files. #thetruthisstilloutthere,”he tweeted on Friday, his last day in the White House.

Podesta’s love of the “X-Files” TV show, along with his fascination with all things extraterrestrial, is well documented. Back in 2002 Podesta even discussed the importance of disclosing government UFO records at a conference organized by the Coalition for Freedom of Information. “I think it’s time to open the book on questions that have remained in the dark, on the question of government investigations of UFOs,” he said. “We ought to do it, really, because it’s right, we ought to do it because the American people, quite frankly, can handle the truth, and we ought to do it because it’s a law.”

More recently, Podesta wrote the foreword to Leslie Kean’s 2010 book “UFOs: Generals, Pilots, and Government Officials Go on the Record.”

The public’s appetite for information on UFOs remains strong. Earlier this year, for example, a slew of UFO files hit the Web when UFO enthusiast John Greenewald posted declassified records from Project Blue Book -- the U.S. Air Force’s records on alleged UFO and extraterrestrial sightings -- on an online database. Greenwald had spent decades filing Freedom of Information Act requests on the topic.

However, scant reference is made to Roswell, New Mexico, in the database. The alleged 1947 Roswell incident continues to be a source of controversy, with conspiracy theorists claiming the U.S. military found and covered up evidence of an alien spaceship crash.

I really don't remember a little green men \ Roswell thread here before.

LET THE THEORIES COMMENCE!

my personal theory is that the roswell event was the successful government attack on an extra-terrestrial UFO, that was going to attempt to spread a viral phenomenon that would self-replicate in human culture, causing untold societal damage using an inexplicable phrase that triggers the frontal lobe.

My personal theory is that the right-wing nutcases screaming about Obama's birth certificate were right, but not because Obama is a secret Muslim terrorist. Obama is an alien, and this is why he has no birth certificate! In fact, I believe that all presidents since the 1920s have been the same alien, and this alien changes its disguise every few years to make us think that we have a legitimate president. But the truth is out there! DEMAND TO SEE THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE!

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I for one, demand government oversight of the X-COM budget. Paying 40 spacebucks for an interceptor is highway robbery in our attempts to defeat the UFO menace!

I've my own theories on "extra terrestrial life".... but in terms of Roswell, Hangar 18, and Area 51; I think that the dates where they go from being TS, to Secret, and eventually become available for public reading would be coming up soon, if not already passed... OF course, just because the dates may/may not have passed doesn't mean the gov't would necessarily release that information, if it's information that is still a vital part of US Govt operations (Military Intelligence, 3 letter agencies, FEMA, etc.)

OR... it could be that the gov't isn't declassifying it just to keep the tin foil hatters going

Man, imagine if the government really was hiding evidence of intelligent alien life coming to Earth . That would be pretty comforting to me, personally. It would confirm that humanity isn't stuck here for the foreseeable future.

My personal theory is that it has nothing to do with aliens and is simply highly advanced military equipment that still needs to be kept classified. And govt employees love feeding the alien conspiracy whackos with tasty tidbits just to see them go rabid over it, a bit like dropping cubes of meat in a piranha tank. Its just amusing for them. So they get to yank the chain and still keep things secret. So much fun.

But thats probably too believable for anyone to believe.

I think there has to be, statistically, intelligent life somewhere. The sheer scale of thew universe seems to me as such that even if it requires several billion-to-one combinations in a row to happen, it still would have happened. Of course, the likelihood we'd ever contact them before we destroy ourselves... that sheer scale works against us a bit, distance wise.

You pretty much summed up how I feel about it... The other part of that is, since I am comfortable with "knowing" that there's life out there... I am really uncomfortable with the idea of actually meeting it. I mean, what if that life is more like the Xenomorphs, and less like Vulkans or Wookies??? (though, I suppose if there were Wookies, there's a good chance the Force really does exist, and theres a chance that I could learn to be Sith or something cool (Im far, far too old to become Jedi)

Roswell was just a weather balloon, or possibly swamp gas.

For reals though, it was probably just prototype jets that the US military didn't want the public knowing about at the time. It was the height of the cold war after all.

We're watching you... scum.

Well, if there are Wookies out there and we meet them, I hope they don't learn how to play our miniature wargames... I've heard they pull people's arms out of their sockets when they lose.
