Are " insert random troop Name here" any good?
Is 7th Edition any good?

You got the points cost, you go the rules and most of us made some games... So you know if this unit is an good.. Or you know if you have Fun in 7 th Edition...or you know if pooping felt good or you Had an anal holocaust on the toilet.

People like opinions, bro. It's all about that discussion forum thing.

Well, some times you want to know if something is good or, as you put it, poop, before you invest in it. And 40k, and all GW games, have a strong tradition of "is is poop?" roulette for rules. Meaning what was good years ago might be nothing but a pretty shelf ornament in this edition.

Some people care about having a strong competitive game, that's their fun. Spending money on something counter to that goal isn't fun.

But I'm sorry for bringing sense to a post.

You really can't see the point.

Some people see a cool unit they like but are worried about that taking that unit will be a detriment to playing the game or that they'll use it wrong.

Seriously they just want to know if the unit is good. What is so wrong with that?

Hey guys, I want to go online and discuss opinions with people about a wargame in a post-like fashion.

Is a forum any good?

I know I'm pretty big on purchasing $100+ models just for funnsies without further thought about whether they are even remotely effective (i.e. gorkanaut).

But then, I like to live dangerously.

Chosen and Terminators are the most common I see and they are very valid units to ask more experienced players' opinion on. Chosen have access to all sorts of toys and Terminators have a 2+/5++ save with better than normal weapons. On paper these units are very good. Add in an opponent that has their own army, the experience to know what weapons to use, the power creep that is in 40k at this point, and the actual monetary cost of picking up these units, painting them and playing them and we can humor a quick question that will save a person that much time, money and annoyance. The more experienced of us can tell them the downsides and the best case upsides that comes from playing the game in various ways.

If you don't want to give and ask for advice, why come to a community that discusses tactics?

Also not everyone (myself) can look at the points cost, stats, and special rules and know instinctively if the unit is good or not. I don't have the play experience to just know by looking if something is good. Sometimes I migh have to ask. Sorry?

Not everyone can tell if something is good.

Someone might be new to the game or the faction and have no idea if that thing is good. Maybe their meta has nobody who plays X and a guy is starting them up but knows little to nothing about them.

I ask because things dont always work the way you picture it to. It is great to get advice on things, as some units have "think outside the box" styles, such as the good old slingshot Typhus with spawn method i used to regularly deploy.

I'm with ya in spirit, but what else would a forum be filled with if it weren't for the type of threads your complaining about.

The real question is, should anyone be basing their hobby happiness on what other people say in said threads? I mean...it's all super subjective.

To take from recent events....are lictors good? How about scouts? Whose answer to either of those questions should we listen to? How would we know?

Either way...it is what keeps these forums going round.

Because people want opinions.

If you don't like those kind of topics then when you see one don't click the link and read that topic just move on.

@ OP: Seriously though. On a forum like Dakka, new players will come and ask the same questions each time. I know I did. So I get what you are saying but, opinions are wonderful.

It could be worse. You could go over to Proposed Rules and keep tripping over "move to d12s, change nothing else about the game!" threads.

People like second opinions. No one wants to look at an expensive (IRL money) unit just to find out its trash in actual in game use.

We have fed this troll enough I think.

Oh hell no. I can tolerate a lot of proposed rules, but moving to d10's/d12's is nonsense! If I wanted to roll something other than a d6, I'd go play D&D

Maybe no one plays the army and you want a second opinion. Maybe you think that something is good, or bad, but people at your FLGS says the opposite and you aren't sure if they just don't lie to you.
Maybe you don't have an infinite stash of euros and want a working army and not 1500pts of models that don't.
Maybe your army is not working , your not having fun, but all your m8s do have fun and you don't know, if it is because they play other armies or you did something wrong

Whats wrong about asking girls if it was any good? I always have been doing that also offered honest feedback, communication is king. Dont do the latter though tbh thats my advice.

To be honest I am quite amazed seeing show little threads here get ignored or laughed at. I think dakka is a most polite forum I ve ever read or posted on, I mean even the warnings are polite heh. It's nice to the point of puking really but I like it, it's a good place to rest after some hurricane sh..tstorm in some obscure part of world wide basement. Also the intelectual level of discussion is ussualy really high so maybe nice just comes with the territory.

Probably because the stuff is overpriced enough as it is, who wants to spend money on a cool looking unit to find it's total gak in the game?
