The other option is that they simply haven't found a slot for it and keep pushing it down the line; though that's far less likely considering the time frames.

They found a slot for it just fine a year ago when they made the Nova roadmap. It's more likely there is now a Somali pirate captain who rules from a throne made of Knight cardboard boxes previously destined for Nottingham.

I think the latter is very unlikely given it was on the road map they provided months ago and they've even since previewed the new model. Even feels like they had expected them out in time for the Christmas battleforce given the statline leaked there.

It seems something definitely happened. Just curious what that is.

I'm hoping they are trying to fix the army list, so that Canis Rex is not featured in every single Imperial Knights force you see.

Presumably, since the Castigator is also the name of the Sororitas tank, GW doesn't want two different things with similar names rolling around in the game.

If that were the case, they'd have to completely rename every unit in the Blades of Khorne faction for Age of Sigmar.

When I say 'similar' I don't mean containing the same noun in noun-verber styling, but the exact same title: Castigator to Castigator. One is a tank and one is a knight. They cannot be confused visually, but I can see someone thinking confusion may be caused by the naming.

At least it'll be useful longer than Imperial Knights and Dark Eldar!

If it goes as many predict, 11th will be a 10.5 that continues on with existing dexes until the are eventually replaced by an 11th ed book. That still isn't great, but it does extend the time your codex remains relevant.

The extent to which I've looked at my copy of Leviathan: I put some flock on the bases. 3 years isn't enough time.

The 9th edition Votann codex put me off buying any books from Games Workshop again. If it doesn't come with the miniatures, I don't see myself buying a book from them again.

I don't know how codices look these days but on the webstore the tank is a Castigator and the knight is a Cerastus Knight Castigator. Surely that's different enough that it won't be a problem? GW seems content to have the Land Raider Crusader, (Primaris) Crusader Squad and Crusader (Ecclesiarchy shield guy) all in the same game.

Got me there. The Ecclesiarchy bros have all mysteriously gone, though!

It was my only slim reasoning for why the knight ain't around. And why Space Marines have 'reivers' so as not to clash with Dark Eldar jetcyclists.

Looking like the new Votann are a bit cheaper, a bit more fragile, and a bit harder-hitting. Interesting direction for them. They are the slow glass hammer horde army now. If you can call an army with T5 basic troops "fragile".

New Ironkyn Character is dirt cheap, and gives buffs while in objectives. I'm guessing every Votann army will be taking two, just to objective camp in their deployment zone.

"More fragile" is probably a bit of a misnomer, although a few things certainly lost toughness (Sagitaurs, Hearthguard). Warriors picked up a 5++ for the entire unit via the sarge, and their 6+++ is now native instead of being on wargear, so is more friendly to splitting the unit. The bots seem to be the new anvil rather than the Hearthguard (T6, W3 2+ save vs T5 W2 2+/5++), although the HG definitely do combined arms extremely well and have better hero support. Beserks also got a bit easier to kill, gaining a pip of toughness and going up to a 4+++ but losing a wound, but their damage feels a lot more consistent to me and there's a ton of support for them in the detachments. Not going to be great for clearing chaff thanks to the loss of sweep, but they can turn off overwatch with their grenades and the mauls are now excellent for anti-tank work.

The Hekaton feels like it got a rather nice glow-up as well with its new ability, as its shooting will never degrade and it can go after Stealth targets very effectively. I like the changes to the railgun and conversion weapons as well, with both getting a lot more consistent with more shots, although the beamer trades sustained hits for lethal. Definitely a lot of new anti-tank tools in the kit across the roster, which compensates for the loss of perpetual +1 to wound rather nicely.

Cheers Stahly.

I'm thinking of the Memnyr Strategist as a retinue character for Blackstone Fortress. Not as a combat-inclined character but one who interacts with the Fortress; able to lower the threat level of the spindle drones and enhancing UR-025 ranged attacks.

Narratively he could clash with Pious Vorne and Taddeus, being against abominations and all that jazz. Likely needs protecting as well.

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

Steeljacks are cool but the kit is so minimalistic, only 3 heads and no variants. Plus the volkite blaster barrel is one piece so drilling out the barrel is going to be a hassle.

The Steeljack kit kind of stumps me. It has four swords in it. One looks like the one from the Khal kit, the other three look like daggers. As far as I can tell there's no rules difference.

Edit: nevermind, there's a difference.

Most of the new Votann stuff is already out of stock on the US website. That's crazy! Guess the army is pretty popular, eh?

Good thing one of my FLGS's has me covered with the codex and a Kapricus.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

The steeljacks would look cool if you used the chest mounted lampbox as head and had the dome head as a cyclone misslie turret.
That design would have sold it as a 40k model straight away, but now they just look goofy to me.

Oh you young pup.

Their point is that the aperture on that weapon is an oval, so it cannot be drilled out normally.

I can't think of any examples of an oval hole on older miniatures or weapon designs. So which one were you specifically thinking of, grampa?
