I quite like the DW, though I'm not inclined to collect an army of them. And I agree with you that the special units/wargear give them personality. I personally think we won't see a huge amount of change to their datasheets, though I could be wrong.

Its not a good model to be sure. But it has a certain amount of character to its ugliness. (Although I've never been one to care for realistic dimensions in my miniatures.) By contrast the new Coteaz is also a bad model - but it just feels like a plastic characterless imposition.

The new model is okay. Marines do Marine things and not much for me. Then again maybe I should bring my Lamenters up to 1000 points...

I do agree old metal has a certain character. I study the 'old masters' of 3rd and 4th edition fairly often to inspire my own works. That said, as a 20-something Marine fan who started properly in 8th after being engaged with the art and ~~marketing~~ lore over my teenage years, I certainly enjoy the new Marines. While Coteaz feels characterless, I feel they've hit it out of the park with new Marines since the fumbling baby steps of 8th.
