I wanted to post this to ask around and find if theres any truth behind Games Workshop removing Slaanesh from the game completely?

heres an article i found that a friend keeps pushing is going to happen:

Maybe if people actually remembered he is more then "Sex/drugs/rocknROLLL!"

You know, like the perfectionism, the Hedonism, the overall desire to the point of numbness that they would give to join her, I mean really there's more to him then what everyone keeps thinking of her.

I saw that article a while back. I dont know. he/she still seems to be fairly popular amongst chaos players and are populerly summoned daemons so I dont really see why it would be removed.
of course in a penny pinching streamlining trend, you never know...
So I have the wait and see attitude.

The way everything else in the game is getting stripped down to its most simplistic lore elements I'd be shocked if anyone did.

Edit: its funny how khorne was originally a fairly well rounded martial glory God instead of just blood and skulls while slannesh originally was all about sex drugs and rock and roll. And now decades later, the roles have been reversed. Fluff has been added to make slannesh about martial perfection while it has been taken away from khorne to make him only a bloodthirsty mongrel.

It has as much potential to be true as any other rumor off of BoLS.

Will they actually recon it out? probably not unless they are willing to kill off noisemarines and emp children

I have a feeling they are going to change it heavily into some sort of greed aspect instead of the sex drugs and rock and roll aspect we have now.

and probably change tzeench purely into magic instead of scheming. to make it simple for the youngsters.

Slaanesh is what brought into being the schism of the Dark Eldar and the Eldar, is the cause of the Eldar's fall from grace, and is one of the 4 primordial powers (there is a 5th named Stu, but we don't talk about him).

For it to be removed from the game completely would be like removing Necrons completely.

I call bull gak.

Amusingly he already represents greed, what with him representing the full Seven Sins aspect and all.

Also I've always enjoyed the changes to the NM, first you've got the 80's bands, then the weird sound guns...And then thanks to the internet and dawn of war you now have Dubstep Marines dropping the Bass off a Land Raver.

All of this right now.

I really enjoy that aspect of just slight sillyness.

But really if you simplify it down to the point the wee kiddys can understand

it would be
Korn: god o Blood and cereal
Nurgle: god o rot and rust
Tzeench: god o magic and sparkles

Slannesh really is the hardest one to one line without going into creepy town ( god of tits :/ )

God of Sin and Perfection?

And how is desire creepy, tempting you with jewels is just as desireful as lust. Desiring lots of food and gluttony is still desire.

Think about how GW will represent desire.
Korn is easy since its blood muscles and general raging
Nurg is easy because bloat + unmentionable oozing fluids
Tzeench should be simple since magic tends to almost always take shape of fire and or mutation.

for Slann the default for desire tends to go to tits super quickly. even with jewels or food. and at that slannesh already does the jewels thing. unless we are going the pirate route. at which point its going to also be silly.

im saying GW is probably trying to figure out the easiest "kid friendly" solution to the nesh problem but its not going to be to remove all traces since it wont mesh well with eldar or some marines.

Its GW. they probably think that about there whole consumer base.

Edit: Though thinking about it

with the new gyrocycle gimp suit ad mech stuff maybe they are getting over that awkwardness and will just do slannesh as the generic desire monster it should be in the first place.

Slaanesh is God of Excess, not desire, boobies, sex or anything else, but Excess.

There are plenty of ways that Slaanesh could be portrayed in this context without boobies, but GW aren't creative enough to think of any.

Problem with excess is that it can apply to ANYTHING which overreaches the other gods as well.

Aren't all Chaos gods the gods of excess? Khorne is the god of excess violence, Tzeentch is the god of excess scheming and Nurgle is the god of excess rotting.

They should go the Lotus-Eaters route with it. Like Slanesh is the "tempter" that the lotus fruit was in the Odyssey.

In any case, one thing that was always wierd to for CSM is that Deathguard give you +1T (why would rotting make you more tough) and the "free" FNP seems better suited fluff-wise to Emperor's Children, who IIRC are supposed to be hopped up on all kinds of gak during battle, than Plague Marines.

Yep, Slannesh has evolved a lot from the old Slaves to Darkness book and Khorne has devolved.
there is nothing wrong with using the new model for slannesh and sticking with just the martial perfection. Could make for a great looking army.
I'm not holding my breath on his/her removal though. At most, I see a further step away from the hatred and distrust of the gods for one another to bring them closer together where fewer units could be used and thus selling more of a smaller line than fewer of a larger line.

I do wish GW would stop marketing to damned children (like they have the money to even make an army at this point anyway) and crank the meter up to full grimdark. It's incredibly annoying how GW always just turns a blind eye and chooses to ignore the true nature of Slaanesh and the Dark Eldar, while just dropping hints of what they may do behind the scenes.

Pull out all the brakes, chuck the children angle, and go for the full adult angle with zero censoring.

Yeah, no. There's a reason why people who gush over their Kingdom Death models in the middle of the FLGS get shuffled out the door.

Inboud...

For me, she who thirsts is an intimate part of the Lore. Her removal would be a disappointing blow.

A slight reimagining? Could be. I could see a focus on excess- noise, obsession, etc.

Complete removal is unlikely I think.

Yeah, I've seen an army using the original slannesh fluff. If I never see a boobed rhino or phallus sword or penis ram and vagina doors on a land raider again, it will be too soon. if I was the owner of the shop I saw it at, I'da asked him to only play it after hours when kids werent around.
And it even having those in the same game or line that could stop parents/grandparents from buying the models for their kids.

This Noise Marine approves not of these rumours. I think GW simply can't fathom how to represent a God of excess. Forgeworld have managed it best so far, look at the Kakaphonii.

As for a retcon, not even GW could be that moronic. 40k would suddenly develop a huge fluff gap, BL would have written books about a figment of your imagination and FW would be pretty pissed.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

Pleasure, Perversion and Vice. These are the things Slaanesh is the god of. "Excess" falls under the heading of "Vice".

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.
