Greetings all, I have decided that I am going to rebuild and paint my wolves. These guys were my first army and I would really like to do them up better. I went with the icy blue the first time around and have decided I like the true grey look. What I am asking from all of you fellas is if and when you painted up wolves in this manner if you could shair with me some pictures and what paints you used for inspiration. Ps I know my punctuationalgrammar is probably not great as I don't give a damn.
Thank you.

Welcome to Dakka!

If it's the dark grey look you're going for, like this one:

Then I started with Vallejo Dark Blue Grey and layered adding a little Light Grey each time, before washing the recesses with Nuln Oil. I think this guy had about 5 progressively lighter layers, but typically 3 or even 2 gets a good enough look for the tabletop.

Wow that first one was a blast from the past! I'm actually working on a small chaos marines from the same era
Paradigm, That looks great but I fear it is beyond my lvl of skill. Is that the old black reach captan? I may attempt something like this for my heroes but am really looking for examples of table top quality stuff. I'm not the best painter yet. Though I would say I'm not a blood claw anymore

Hah, thanks! To be honest, though, I did spend about three times longer on guy than most of my Wolves. If you want, I can take some pics of the simpler ones (just 2 layers and a wash) if that would help?

And yeah, it's converted from the AoBR dude!

Welcome to Dakka. While I don’t paint wolves, I do like to see them worked on. 40kFSU is currently doing a nice lot of grey wolves over in his blog, starting here. There are a more wolves over in the blog section to draw inspiration from, but I know his are a classic grey.

And love the retro wolf pics!

Look up lesterburley's 13th company youtube paintscheme tutorial if you want a more grey "preheresy" style paint scheme. It's simple and quite good if that is the look you're going for.

These are possibly my favorite space wolves ever:

It is the 2014 Golden Demon - Open Silver award winner, and was featured (along with some interview questions) in a recent White Dwarf -- I think the first Khorne one this year.

OK, here are some of my Wolves, same scheme as the guy I posted above, but much simpler, just a Dark Grey Blue basecoat, Nuln oil wash and the DGB reapplied on the edges. Model by model, they're nothing special, but they look fine on the table. 'Scuse the lack of basing!

Those look really good and simple, the red really pops off of the dark grey, I could pull that off I'm sure. Thanx paradigm.

That is a really nice colour selection. Sometimes I feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall with Space Wolves because I can't capture the feel I want and am picturing in my mind, but you really nailed it what I think Space Wolves should look like with that.
