Yup, I was curious, so I pulled out my Sisters of Battle army and figured out how much it cost. I probably should not have done it.

About 2500pts of Sisters of battle comes to:

$1500
(Approximate)

This means several things:

1: I can't talk about Magic the Gathering players spending a lot now!
2: I better darn well figure out how to make the Sisters win more!
3: Oh my God I need to get more games in!
4: I am so glad I spent $150 to get a proper case to transport it in.

Has anyone else made this mistake?

Around 100$ for ~1500 pt of orks. Bought everything second-hand and scratch built stuff.

Also spent around 50$ on materials, paints, brushes, etc.

yeah I have NO IDEA how much my sisters army has cost me even mine is starting to hit 2500pts.
FYI they won't win much atm until they get a flyer (if you play them as a single army with no allies).

I've spent about 2 grand on my BA, including an armorcast reaver Titan, and 2 imperial knights in my collection in that, and I'm at about 15-16k points.

I think what's worse is working out how much you've spent on your army. I'm up to a grand on my Spess Muhreen army and about $300 on my guard stuff.

Well, I did the same calculation for my Necrons and then I figured out that my Cyriss army costs almost the same.

I have roughly 5000 Points of Sisters ... That's 3000€ worth of metal + 900€ for the painter ...... so I'm not looking too much forward to new models for sisters.

Lets see I have everything Grey Knight. I could field the old codex two times over or more. 8 DreadKnights, 7 Land Raiders, 30 Jokearo, 14 Rhinos, 100 GK Terminators, 2 WarHounds, 1 Thunderhawk, 200+ GK PA, + wayyy more. I have everything necron. I have everything Tyranid and about 10 of anything I use like Zoanthropes.

I'd say I spent about 6k+ on 40K.

I don't even want to work out what I've spent. I worked out I had about £300 of Codexes on my bookshelf and you should've seen the look my girlfriend got me. I don't even have an army, I have various bits from various factions from various games.... I have a problem.

880€ spent on Orks since 2006.
~400€ spent on Dark Angels/Inquisition since 2012.
558€ spent on cigarettes since Jan/1/2015.

I've spent a little over $800 on my Orks. I basically bought three armies second-hand. Last I checked I had around 9,000 points of Orks. While I've bought a few kits since then, I doubt I've cracked 10,000.

I have more than 10k marines allready and to terrified to try too calculate their summed up worth.

I could put a payment down on a house, if we include fantasy.

Make yourself feel better by comparing the cost to the total number of hours spent, and start bumping up those hours spent whenever you can!

I’d have to adjust for inflation, etc. and that’s too much work. But it’s going to be a stupidly large number, something in the multiple thousand dollar range.

Crap, now I feel compelled to get a rough estimate.

I've been told I should probably get my army evaluated for insurance purposes, but since the models have intrinsic value I'm not worried (unless GW went belly up). I'd be scared to see what the straight retail value of my armies are worth.

OK, that was less bad then I thought. Rough estimate puts my Ultramarines at around $2,500. Last time I did a formal point count, I had 8,323 points. I’ve painted a bit since then, and am counting some primed stuff towards the cash total. But my average works out to about 3.5 points per dollar. Assuming lots of rounding errors. But also not counting either discounts/bundle deals, or units I’ve used multiple boxes to make, things left over in my bits box, etc.

Also not included is paints, rules, tools, and time. Or my Eldar, BA, Undead, WoC, or other assorted things on the shelves.

Any faction without plastic models is going to be really pricey to assemble 2500 points.

If you haven't bought them yet, I sure wouldn't, on rumors of a new Sisters codex and models soon...

I currently have about :

2500 pts BA
4000 pts of IG
2500 pts of GK
1000 pts of SW
1000 pts of deamons

2500+ points of HH Word bearers
1200 points of HH emperors children.

In case my wife reads my history..... I've spent about £500

i don't want to work out what i've really spent over the years, I think id cry

If I had to add up all my money spent on 40k...It would be well over 10k

The metal really adds up. I own a 3500pt+ Skaven army from the early 90's and it's 95% metal. It would cost almost $1 per point of army value if I had paid retail. Ebay helps.

I'm simply terrible and admit it. I have around 1500 points of literally every army in the game with about 3k of GK/SM/IG (like 5 super heavies tanks) and ada lance. Just need to get my giant mechanicum crabs and I'll be whole again. My wife tells me probably around 5k ish (and that's buying used most of the time and e-bay of stuff)

DKoK / steel legion and inquisition army of henchmen/monkies probably cost me the most if you don't count the super heavies. I got the 1500 ish of sisters rather cheap for only $600 bucks and another 200 to get it painted in my favorite scheme (sacred rose)

I've probably dropped $2,500 gross on this hobby which only makes it more irritating that ~$1,000-$1,500 worth disappeared when I moved from California to Alabama.

My current WIP chaos army is around $500 worth with little chance of growing any bigger any time soon

$1500? I wish my hobby was that cheap!

I'm in a similar boat. Bought a green tide for about $150 used then bought an actual warboss. I'd have bought more if I didn't realize how much assault based armies suck to play

17 years worth of Models, bits, glue, paint and brushes...oh and rulebooks and codexes, but then the codexes costed like 20$...

I've never made a full calculation of all of this, and i'm too afraid to do so.

My sister army cost me $1955.75
