did you just take the scions volley gun and remove strength and ap?
also, I would not make it free at all, that salvo 4 at 36 inches in a gunline army is worth at least 10 pts. if not more.beyond that, I don't think guardsmen are lacking in the weight of fire class.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field. |

Better solution:
Heavy Stubbers are now Salvo 3/3, and cost 5 points for Infantry models.
PCS, CCS, SWS may take it as a special weapon; IG Vets may take a Heavy Stubber instead of a HF (or as a special weapon); Platoon Infantry may take a Heavy Stubber in addition to a special weapon, but may not take a heavy if this option is chosen.
Boom, you've got your SAWs. All you need to do now is just model them as fancy lasers instead of bullet spitters.

That was the point...

There never were any clear point from gameplay stance. I wanted a weapon for Guardsmen that serves the same purpose as M249/MG4/FN Minimi serve in Infantry Squads.
I changed the stats bit, reduced the range and fire-rate.

First off, I'd definitely say this weapon has to be 5 or 10 points. Second, what's wrong with a heavy bolter, outside of needing two men to operate it? I feel like they wouldn't want to invest in something more complicated to produce if they could just give them heavy bolter teams.
Keep in mind that the hot-shot volleygun fills a very specific role.... it's a high rate of fire high AP weapon, and there are no other high rate of fire high AP weapons in the imperium. For infantry squads in need of a machine gun, the heavy bolter is already in production and works well.... why would the mechanicum invest in making a new weapon (for guardsmen, who die all the time) that's harder to produce and maintain than a standard lasgun? I imagine your volleygun variant would be similarly demanding to the hot-shot variant, in that they ruin the charge packs and need regular care/maintenance/repairs.

That's called a 'lasgun'. A modern SAW fires the same ammunition as the rifles at about the same speed on full auto, it's just a belt-fed weapon that the squad carries more bullets for; when you get to a setting where the ammunition for your rifles weighs a quarter of what the M16's does by shot (clips half the weight with double the shots) and you can recharge clips by sticking them in a fire the limitations of your rifles have faded to the point where a SAW wouldn't serve a lot of purpose.

In that case, it should have stats very similar to a lasgun. Maybe Salvo 1/2 or Heavy 2 instead of Rapid Fire for free?
