Filmmaker Brad Bird, who’s been hard at work on Disney’s “Tomorrowland,” has confirmed his next project will be the sequel to his 2004 blockbuster “The Incredibles.”

Although he announced just last month that he’d begun work on the screenplay, Bird told Collider he already has “a bunch of pages.”

“I had a lot of ideas for the original ‘Incredibles’ that I didn’t get a chance to use, that I like,” he said. “I have ideas that I wanted to pursue a little bit and there wasn’t enough time in ‘Incredibles.’ There are new ideas I have, and I think there are enough of those together to make an interesting movie. I’m just focusing on getting ‘Tomorrowland’ out into the world and playing with the ‘Incredibles’ sandbox again.”

Bird, who made his live-action directorial debut with 2011’s “Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol,” was approached by Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy to helm “Star Wars: Episode VII,” but ultimately decided to focus on “Tomorrowland.” Asked by Collider whether he might consider taking the reins of the second anthology film following the departure of Josh Trank, Bird acknowledged his interest but seemed devoted to the Pixar sequel and other projects.

“Well Kathy and I have discussed the possibility of — I mean she’s basically saying this is a very large sandbox and other people can play in it,” he said. “I was particularly attracted to the idea of picking up and — J.J. [Abrams] got very excited about the notion of shaping the next trilogy, and that idea was interesting to me too. But I kind of — I’m writing a sequel to ‘The Incredibles’ and I can’t think too much farther beyond that. I have other things I want to do as well.”

This is...good news!

I would have been OK with an IRON GIANT 2, but this will do!

Oh yes, really happy about this news. Here's hoping it will be as funny (and dark) as the first one.

What do you have against Clerks?!

You have something against the Cars franchise?

Even when it's mediocre (Planes) it's still better than 80% of the kids stuff out there.

Plus, we got Ratatouille and MI: Ghost Protocol in between.....It's not like Bird was just doing nothing.

I never liked it, yeah it was good, but its still pretty bad compared to most pixar stuff.
I hope they keep the Ayn Rand Esque philosophy that made the first one better that just a super hero flick

No.

Brad Bird himself said that the idea the The Incredibles was based on Obejectivism was ridiculous:
I think it got misinterpreted a few times. Some people said it was Ayn Rand or something like that, which is ridiculous. Other people threw Nietzsche around, which I also find ridiculous. But I think the vast majority of people took it the way I intended. Some people said it was sort of a right-wing feeling, but I think that's as silly of an analysis as saying The Iron Giant was left-wing. I'm definitely a centrist and feel like both parties can be absurd.

The Incredibles was satire.

I still see losta Ayn Rand in the Incredibles. Especially the lines from syndrome "If everybody is superl, no one is"
and dashes idea of "Everyone is special Dash" followed by "That is just another way of saying no one is"

I don't see Rand in that so much as a more general theme of "Individuality vs Group Conformism".

You know what I see? A family friendly flick without politics.

Politics ruins most movies, why bring them in? Especially Ayn Rand.

You can see that all day long, but you're still wrong.

Please refer back to quote I supplied from the director of the movie if you are still unsure on the matter.

It doesnt matter of authorial intent. Many people see Farenheit 451 as anti censorship when the author intended it to be about how TV is killing the book.
Just because the author didnt put it in, doesnt mean you still cant see that in it.

Yeah, you'll see what you want to see and that often says a more about 'you' (you being used in the general sense here) than the movie itself - just as it always is!

It all comes down to what school of criticism you subscribe too.

The Incredibles is one of those things made to entertain children that became really really dark when you think about it to much.

So just don't think about it too much It was a fun movie. Look forward to the sequel.

I do believe that's the case.
