Of all the boxes of little plastic soldiers you've opened, which actual sprue was your favorite? Simply, I'm talking about the raw plastic ya get out of the box, disregarding price and rules, just the actual raw material.

For me it's plastic tau pathfinders. I'm a sucker for all the extra little bits they give you, and all the options they give you.

Warp Talons. Their bits are simply beautiful, and they are the best "free" sculpts for Chaos there is. The DV set is prettier, but it's monopose.

I love Crisis Suits. With some conversion skills you can make some beautiful stuff!

The Skitarii boxes are also great. They're a bitch to assemble but have so many bitz!

Spoiler:

Truly, this is how all the CSM kits should look. Unlike the vanilla ancient box, these guys look like they've been mutated by the warp and spat out to brutally murder everything with a pulse. They just look sick.

Oi, that's a tough one!!

Infantry sized, I think death company. There are just so many cool bits and so much iconography.

The new devastators are pretty sweet, as are the new ASM, but I don't think they rank as 'favorite'

Treeman ancient was pretty awesome when I first popped him open.

I have to agree with the CSM termi lord for 40k.

Although my ALL TIME fav sprue is Bret Longbowmen from WHFB... Go open one and see what I mean, all the bowmen are monopose, but the bits and extras and all that jazz make it amazing for conversions etc

Flash Gitz... Starting with a plain oblong box and ending up with a ludicrously kitted out gun is just fun as heck.
Even the stray shells and sights are fantastic little touches.

I'm possibly traitorous if I say that Mantic's sprues are my all time faves for bits, but not figures...

The Tau Pathfinders sprue is pretty darn good. In fact I bought some of this bits separate (for a Tau Mercenary project) and kept the sprue intact

I was pretty impressed by the Terminators in third edition Space Hulk when they came out- there's some great engineering and planning on those figures.

I like the new assassins, very fine detail and fun to build.

Chaos Mutation sprue, all the way! That baby was popular for conversions long after the old Chaos Warriors that it originally came in had gone the way of the dodo. Sooo useful for both Chaos Warriors and Chaos Space Marines. And even non-Chaos aligned mutants, if you were in the mood.

Such a tough decision. I remember opening the Centurion box and being blown away by the fact that it contained enough bits to assemble the squad in any possible configuration. Likewise, the sheer number of bits on the new plastic Sternguard squad was dizzying.

I also love the Dark Eldar, all of them. There are so many fiddly bits: blades, hooks, chains, skulls, banners, it's a bits whore's dream. And all their kits are interchangeable, so I can have scourge heads on my hellions and wych arms on my reavers, or anything else I want.

If I had to pick just one though it would be the plastic Wood Elf Treeman. The different heads and weapons (I magnetized mine purely for aesthetic variation--I couldn't decide!) are great, but the forest sprites are amazing!

Ooh good call. Definitely the Treeman. I was really impressed with that model, goes together really well, a few different options for the pose, the build is pretty clever and you get loads of extra bits for customisation. Although I just realised we're in 40k General...

Definitely agree here. For five marines you get six bolters, eight combi-weapons, a heavy bolter, a heavy flamer, all of the special weapons, and the list keeps going. The sculpts on the marines are very nice, and you get so damn many options that it is basically impossible to make two sets of five that look exactly alike.

I like the new tactical squads as well (both the Blood Angels and standard Space Marines), loaded very well with options.

Such a great terrain kit, I know that there have been all sorts coming out recently in all different styles and materials but that is hands down the best when we disregard price imo.

Sternguard box. So many bits. I picked one up even as a chaos player. COMBI WEAPONS FOR DAYS!

Tied with that is the Warptalon/raptor box, that was another "bought for bitz" box that I've gotten. The heads, powerfists, and LCs have made appearances all throughout my army.

It's a tie for me between the RW black knight box and the new devastator box. There's something about the look of the new devastators that makes them stand out nicely when compared to tac marines, and the RW box, while I mean there aren't a ton of options, you do get all kinds good looking hammers and swords and some pretty nice pistols, and the bikes themselves look so much better than the generic ones.

Seconding the CSM Terminator Lord/Sorceror. That kit is incredible. On the left hand you get a chainfist, powerfist, power axe, lightning claw or force staff, and on the other hand you've got another lightning claw, a twin-linked bolter and a combi-melta. Then you've got a choice of torso fronts, trophy racks, tabards and shoulder pads, five different heads, an array of random spikey bits, a cloak, a scenic base, and to top it all off, a familiar. All that for less than the price of a monopose loyalist librarian.

Ehhhh, weapon wise the Chaos Lord is bloody awesome, but in terms of appearance the kit is pretty lackluster. You get what, three different types of heads? To get the really interesting heads, you either need a warp talon kit or vanilla chaos terminators with mammoth tusks.

Sterngard boxes are commonly called bits boxes at my shop. The box could easily be used to make 5 marine captains.

Well I think 50% of it is probably the new larger bases - they make marines look like gods. Now with new improved beast looking legs. Love em.

I'll second the Bretonian boxes. Not just the bowmen. The Men At Arms, the knights boxes too. Ohhhh I just had a thought.... if I had a hawk/falcon based chapter like Raven Guard I would so convert that falconry champion arm.... I may still do it.

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.

I agree completely there. The raptors and warp talons look amazing. The chainswords that come in that box are by far my favorites. Also, SO.... MANY... LIGHTNING CLAWS. Since the champion of chaos rule came about. It became the the goto weapon for my champions. So, one raptor box can supply all the specialty weapons I need for a while. Probably also some of the sickest jump packs I've ever seen.

"Because we couldn't be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We've all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we've all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher's Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.

The Wolves will always come to the heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn't behave that way. Only a dog does.

That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."
