2 new battle-forces have coma out, the Backbone of the Imperium and Nork Deddog's Brute Force.

The first one you save 37 euros, so 41 dollars, It has some good firepower and looks like a great beginner pack, hum... except it looks like infantry is a bit lacking, you could do 2 vets squad and a CCS but the poor HWS...I think you should get another vet squad separably for this chimera, and with the extra dudes you got after giving the squads their HWT, do a PCS. And the Wall of Martyrs batteries a kinda good I suppose, if you want to spam battle cannons.

Nork Deddog's Brute Force is for a fluffy "f*ck logic and charge to the enemy lines" complement to your army. You save 1 euro

What are your thoughts ? Worth, not worth it ?

The Backbone set actually looks like a pretty solid starter kit. You're right about it lacking in infantry but it would go well with a cadian defence force and a few other squads, at least for anyone looking to build a full army all at once.

The Brute force kit could be fun in apocalypse games but I wouldn't recommend it.

The Backbone force actually seems like a half decent start to a Cadian army, the only thing I'm not a fan of in the set really is the Deathstrike Missile Lawnchair, and unsure about the Vengeance Weapons Batteries because I've never seen/used them before, but they at least look cool

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.

The Deathstrike kit can also be built into a manticore. Personally I quite like the Deathstrike. Sure it fires only once but when it fires IT FIRES!!! By no means competitive but always fun. Vengance Weapon Batteries are pretty good for their points provided you give them the battle cannon and keep your guys away from the nearest enemy unit by a fair distance.

I forgot that the Deathstrike could be the manticore, hmm, might actually make one of those if I pick it up.

Don't get me wrong, when it fires, they KNOW it fired, but it always seemed like something I wouldn't really use, even when I'm not being serious, I've always felt that I could take some other stuff I just enjoy using

My thoughts mirror what's said. It's very light on the infantry; it's not even a CAD unless you take both squads as Veterans. They should've included Pask and just slapped it with a label like "Panzer battalion" or something.

I may one day pick it up the Backbone, but the Deddog one makes zero sense. 1€ saving? Seriously, GW?

You can model the demolisher as a punisher and call it pask..

Hehe... When I think of starter set i usually think less than 200$ CAD/150$ USD.

The first one is a good box for someone already collecting guard and missing these items. It's just not my style to shell out 500$++ of models all at once. I just won't have time to assemble and paint them all quickly. I prefer waiting and buy in 200$ split each time I'm about to finish the last models. As for the second box, it is basically a campaign box web bundle like we had for the Sanctus Reach / Shield of Baal more fluffy than to start anything.

I'd like to start an IG army, and this is a great deal, but then I think about all the models I'd have to paint and then I stick with my Necrons.

Gathering the Informations.

These aren't "battleforces", they're one-click bundles.

The timing on them is really interesting though.

I'm intrigued about the timing also, seems odd. Here's hoping that the next Codex is Guard, although that would mean me having a SECOND Codex for over a year that I never played a game with...

As for the sets, yeah the Backbone has some good stuff at decent savings but would it killed them to have put another couple of squads in it? The Brute Force one is just silly...

If they have a new guard book...

I hope to God they don't nerf Wyverns.

Wyvren's in a real good position right now they could increase it's cost by 5-10 points and it'd still be a pretty solid unit.

that said I suspect Guard vehicles will see some buffs as GW'll proably give vehicle squadrons the space marine mini formation treatment

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

I could imagine it'll be buffed if the 7th ed Space Marine and Dark Angels Codexes are anything to go by.

I'm pretty well certain these would be formations in the new book somehow.

I would be glad to get a new IG codex but aren't we in the middle of AoS? My local GW seller told me they had prepared AoS for at least the next couple of months. He may be wrong but we had so much 40k this year that I would tend to believe him !

Probably not a whole new codex so soon. It's worth noting that neither bundle includes any new sculpts/exclusives. As such, perhaps they might be producing some sort of supplement/campaign centring around Imperial Guards, with new formations/FOC? I can easily see them pushing a Cadian specific "Decurion" style FOC.

Yeah, that's much more likely. Ah well, any new content would be a good thing!

No new rules.
The Deathstrike is a multi kit, and doesn't have to be the single rocket. It could be the Manticore.
If it is a formation, I would expect it to list either.

I've been looking to get a Baneblade kit to run a Stormlord, and to get a box of Ogryns.
Isn't the Stormlord open-topped, and can carry 20 people? That's a lot of drive-by lasgun fire.
But that box is a bit much.

yeah it seems odd they'd release much during the mass rush of AoS, but I suppose they could sneak another 'dex in there. partiuclarly if it was a GK styled "with no new minis" release

What is the point of those then. ogryns are bad and a BB doesn't make them better in anyway.

Unless these are early releases of a new codex, it is just another attempt at selling Ogryns.
If the codex has a formation or similar for this set, skip it.

It is pseudo-open-topped, not actually. It uses the rules for embarking and disembarking, which is nice. For shooting, 20 models can fire from the troop bay. It has 40 total capacity, so that is 13 ogryns and an IC.

The picture shows two vengeance batteries. The blurb says one. Might want to check that out those of you thinking of buying. That might eat into that bundle savings the OP thought they had.

I did see a teaser blurb on the ipad app about what sounded like a new campaign. Lord Dorn. Mars Must be Purged kind of thing.

A "battery" is a group of guns. The picture shows a battery of two vengeance gun emplacements.
