The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

I never played Chaos Gate but have fond memories of the other two. I actually tried playing Shadow of the Horned Rat again recently and was shocked by how low resolution the game is. It's probably worth picking up at this price but if they released an HD version I'd definitely snap it up, even if the graphics are the only change.

Final liberation is to this day, in my eyes, the very best translation of the actual tabletop game into digital format.

I loved that game. In fact, I still have all of those games in their boxes.

Shadow of the Horned Rat was a bloody tough game. Took me an age and many restarts to beat it.

Dark Omen on other hand was a blast. Still got my copy round here

For the original boxed games you have to fiddle about a bit but you can get them going. Anything bought from GoG has been packaged to work on modern computers.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

All I care about is whether they've managed to do some cleanup work on the audio. Chaos Gate has some of the best 40K music in any of the videogames(yes even the newest ones) but it really suffers because of the horrifying bitrate & compression required on old game CDs.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?

Can anyone confirm if they fixed the Chaos Cultist laspistol crash bug on Chaos Gate?

Dunno - crashes for me on starting the first mission. Other people on GoG forums are reporting no sound and crashes too so looks like they have some work ahead to fix it. I'm waiting for support to reply.

Final Lib works fine however.

Damn!

But...wasn't the 'fix' for that bug relatively simple to do yourself?

Yeah Final Lib was relatively easy to get working even on win 7 64 bit - just took so finagling and patience.

Nope. The laspistol bug is a weird one. Modern graphics cards crash the game when trying to render the las-shot effect. And the first mission is against cultists with laspistols, so the first time one shoots...

I couldn't even get Chaos Gate to work using a virtual machine running Windows 95, 98, or 2000.

The laspistol fix is easy:

http://www.compatdb.org/forums/topic/46630-wh40k-chaos-gate-solution-to-the-cultist-bug/

The GoG release contains that fix and the 1.2 patch.

I got my GoG Chaos Gate to work in the end by downloading it separately. The beta GoG installer thing installs it to an invalid folder location which I guess is why mine was crashing.

Have you listened to the soundtrack that comes with it yet? Have they spruced up the tracks or is still really tinny & muddy?

Sounds alright to me although I freely concede I am probably not the best judge of such things.

Edit: I had to turn the music volume down a tadge actually as the faux-Gregorian chanting was obscuring the sound effects.

Shadow of the horned rat is the game that got me to start playing Warhammer fantasy (was already into 40K by that point). I still have it for the original playstation somewhere but having a copy easy to play on my laptop is worth £3.99.

Will give final liberation a go too.

it's the quiet ones you have to look out for. Their the ones that change the world, the loud ones just take the credit for it.

Frankly, Final Lib is worth the money for the FMV alone. One of the few games where the FMV is not a cheesy add-on and actually adds something. And some 40K FMV that doesn't make my toes curl in embarrassment to boot.
