The latest rumours - however a few months ago we had rumours of a mini-codex for the Kroot and new Krootox and Shapers/Hounds. Now the rumours are saying that it is going to be a tiny release with no mention of the Kroot.

I just bought 40 Kroot Warriors fresh on sprue to prepare for the Kroot Mercenaries mini-dex. Was I a fool?

If kroot were to get a mini dex then I would expect to see a few new sprues for them. Judging by Forgeworld not continuing their Kroot related models it would seem that sales for kroot aren't exactly booming (probably related to the units themselves having meh rules) so I wouldn't expect GW to go down that release line. If anything I would expect GW to expand the Tau auxiliary forces options more before going for a Kroot Mercenary dex. Given GW's (and a fair number of Tau player's) fixation of giant mech suits, I would say we will see more suit options over anything else.

As it currently stands Kroot are decent at spamming snipers and hopefully the new Tau dex will improve their CC ability so they can actually be a decent CC screen. Outflanking Kroot are also decent at going for objectives in the mid game and can threaten the backfield units and maybe split the enemy's attention away from the core Tau army.

Are you a fool? Not exactly but it takes an insane psyker (weirdboy) to hope to predict what GW is going to do. For all we know they could come out with Genestealer cult codex next week or post a video of them destroying those long rumored new Sisters of Battle molds in an industrial shredder. Also a lot of the rumors that comes out are people making up BS for click baits or people with incomplete information about the possible ideas GW is throwing around internally.

So no Kroot Mercenaries? Wow I was scammed.

The rumors painted the Kroot in January. So why does this negate that?

If kroot mercenaries get their own codex i will eat my own head.

It's not gonna happen. Wouldnt be suprised if kroot got a formation and that was that.

Kroot aren't going anywhere if anything they will get better and more units. Any good Tau player worth his salt use kroot so expect to use them don't return your 40 if anything the only thing I can see being removed is the Vespid and possibly pathfinders as these are the lowest end pieces in the Tau Codex.

Why remove what could be improved? Our codex is the smallest main faction codex. We don't need less we need more. Even if its just for diversity/collecting.

No, its not. Sisters is the smallest main faction codex. :p

Yeah, there's a reason GW never sends them a cease-and-desist: they don't generate any real rumors in the first place!

I would use kroot, but like my crisis suits half if them had broken at the ankels. Its like whoever sculpted them had a huge foot fetish, and the only way to make them look bigger was give them tiny ankels.

Pathfinders being removed? You must be new. Pathfunder play a huge role in lore and game...They might as well remove crisis suits too, since they don't have a place either....

Own zero kroot but always 1st or 2nd place at local events, its anecdotal(sp?) I know but kroot are hardly a secret meta or a game changer in my experience.

Without Kroot, what secondary troop choice would there be?

Heh. The Kroot Merc rumors were Larry in the first place, so I wouldn't sweat them either way.

Kroot and vespid are gonna stay more or less the same, maybe poiny tweaks but dont expect much more.

People want a Tau Auxiliaries/Gue'la supplement. Apparently, so do you.

So you went and bought 40 Kroot (probably at market value) thinking that your hopes for a Kroot Mercs 'Dex were going to be realized. The problem? This is 40k. Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Keep 'em. Kroot are still bullet-sponges and tar-pits. Use them as bubble-wrap.

As much as I would love a kroot supplement, Even if GW doesn't release one i say you are not a fool to have bought 40 kroot. I love me a pure kroot list using the old forgeworld kroot rules along with codex ones.
Granted not the most competitive definitely one of the most fun armies i've played. I had about 40+ kroot bodes in my 1000 point list all infiltrating and outflanking and just being a general nuisance before being blown away by their tau overlords.

So just my input, I reckon we might see a big shake up to markerlights. Reason being is I see that being the data cards and having more uses for markerlights. Don't know what they could be, but could be regular bs buff, cover debuff and possibly interactions with railguns for bonus to vehcile damage and increased ability to wound mcs.

That or we might see a special variation on the psychic phase or special bonuses like the skitarii and ad mech ones.

Being solely able to field units that are in a different, existing book is the criteria for not being a main faction codex.

That said, I do apologise - I think the AdMech codices actually have less than the Sisters one when taken as individual books, so one of them probably actually holds the title.

With all of the 7th edition codecies getting increasingly more datasheets, I can easily see a Kroot datasheet in the 7th Edition Tau Codex where you take 305 Kroot squads and get ____, where _____ is a cool special rule or bonus for the kroot squads.

Kroot merc dex "is coming" for about as long as plastic SoB.

I would not hold my breath.

Well. Close. Kroot Mercs were first a thing in 2002. (Tau in 2001) Plastic SOB have been rumored since 3rd edition started back in 1998-1999

[MOD EDIT - RULE #1 - Alpharius] first off crisis suits are the bread and butter, second markerdrones make far better light sources or even tetras for that matter are far better hell might as well use snipers for your markers, but the pathfinders are the weakest link. Goodbye.

Yup. I will always love my 1500pt. Kroot Merc army. So many fun chances for conversions, and I am a hobbyist first and formost.

Plus, you could always use the IG Codex to run Kroot as some Xeno army.
