Hi LB

Couple of questions - does the ultrasonic cleaner make it that easy to strip miniatures? Do you just pop the resin model in there and it is stripped over time or do you need to scrub?

Any chance you could post a pick next time you strip one of how it comes out of the water?

Also, I liked you MIG tutorial - I assume though that you are now also going to repaint your Land Raider, as you put the MIG on before finishing the paint job - or will you be doing the highlighting etc after the MIG?

Cheers

Hiyas TMT!

Ultrasonic. I strip like most do. I soak the model in Grease Lightning for a couple days the toothbrush clean it. The ultrasonic gets everything the toothbrush cant get to. Especially on this model lol. I just fill a container with alcohol or sometimes Media AirBrush Cleaner and run it through a couple cycles and it's like new.

No repaint on the LR. It's staying black for the CoM army and it'd been highlighted with a red pencil heh. The black flames are on top out of camera view

Ah - cool.

Does the paint have to be loosened off for gaps in order for the ultrasonic to work?

Excellent on the Land Raider - we may even get to see a group of your figures completed without getting stripped!

Trust that it's going to happen. The scheme is time consuming but I'm sticking with it.

I know you say you scrapped that defiler, but I think it could be salvaged if you paint the flesh a non flesh colour like blue purple red even black..

Just saying.

Nice CoM I never seen them painted til this thread cause theyre hard to paint.. I also share you affliction of changing armies.. I get bored easy too..

I can't decide which i like better!! It's so frustrating, but what I will say is it does prove your skill to paint the same model twice and make it extremely different, yet still. Incredibly Awesome!!!

How did you paint the purple intestines? Very nice depth, and you said it wasn't even done yet?

Either way you know what you are doing, and I won't drop unwarranted advice on you. Both look great, but the new one is quite muppet-like; the thing is after some more work I can imagine having, as mentioned before, more table-pop.

Psychological warfare, like a rotting barney running at your opponents army screaming "I LOVE YOU, YOU'LL HATE ME, YOUR GUTS I WILL HANG IN A TREE!".

Remember you guys are comparing the new model 25% finished VS the old at 75% finished.

Yeah the old one was fairly easy to do. I wanted him to look soggy like he was "water logged" with fairly clean sores but wet so you could swear you can smell them. I used a bunch of different color washes on his skin. The guts were painted purple, given a dark purple and green wash, then coated with a semi gloss for the wet look.

I wanted the new one to have a more menacing face and to show off the modeling of the skin better. So there's still 2 more highlights on the skin and I haven't even started the shadows.

What are you planning on doing with the armor? I can't picture the game-plan.

Could you get a photo with a bit more distance on the new paint? I kinda want to see it from a gaming view, if you wouldn't mind that is.

I plan on some very crusty armor.. using texture gel and lots of rust. And I plan on using my new blood mix on a lot of the gore. So I take comments about the new guy with a grain of salt.. Even if I'm the only one who loves him now.. I foresee 'change of heart' posts lol.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

Nurgle Update. I made progress on the rest of the skin leaving the face for the video tutorial. Purple has been brushed into the shadows and 2 lighter colors of highlight were applied to upper areas. Made a mix of Vallejo Still Water, Black, Brown, and red to make the blood. I used Still Water because I wanted to have a pool of blood in the upper right hole in his stomach and SW is designed for that.

I see where this is going, your idea for the armor sounds interesting. If nothing else you will learn from this paint-job. So far I like it, but the contrast is a bit off, perhaps it is the camera. Sunlight is the only way I know of to keep the true color in a photograph.

The contrast is fine. Trust me. I spend lots of time with the right equipment to show you what the true colors are. Everything you see is what you would see in person.

Can you be more specific?

The contrast in the actual paints is a bit odd. I think the "dry" sores on the upper body and head need gore as well, not sure if you were planning on doing that though. The green next to two types of reds, one with depth just looks a bit odd that's all.

All the sores weren't hit at the time I took the pictures but the face was left alone on purpose. No purple glaze shading and no 2nd and 3rd highlight. It's in the same condition at the end of the video. Opps I did add the blood to the inside of his mouth.

Oops, missed that.

I think you are on to something here, but it may take a bit of experimenting; on the other hand you have the upper hands, feet, ears, nose, and mouth of experience on me, so my comments are composed of only 2 cents, not the full dollar... hmm I need to start saving up to a dollar.

Hey everyone. I'll be gone a month or so getting things rolling for my site and actually turning it into a paint services and retail hobby supply store, so there tons of paperwork I got to run through as well as drive around and talk with certain city officials and owners of great site like dakkadakka to set up ads and such.. I'll be busy NOT painting lol. Got lots of stuff to do before I can get back into blogging and the video tutorials. But rest assured, I will return and probably with a suprise.

MY chaos part of this blog has ended. I have traded my chaos for eldar. To paint and to play.. To me they are the most challenging to paint. Sorry all my chaos lovers but there will not be a final finished CoM. Maybe in the near future. Sorry but heres the last shot before packing it up.
