Actually I explained it before, but if you think it would make your (forum) life easier, I won't let you wonder any longer or even make you browse through those 23 pages.
I doubt the explanation will do any good with the spelling though, unless of course you speak Chinese, in which case you wouldn't have asked in the first place, because you would have read the characters in my avatar.
So my username is actually the onomatopoeia of my german/swedish name in Chinese. My actual name is Björn and Baiyuan is as close as you can get to it using chinese phonetics. It was given to me by one of my chinese masters ten years ago and means "white gorilla/ape", which sounds weird but is actually a compliment, considering the fact that the white gorilla is an important mythological character in my line of martial arts.
So it consists of 白, bai2, white and 猿, yuan2, ape/gorilla.
Did that do any good?
Recent picture of me to underline how fitting that name is:

Alrighty, your welcome then.
Yong Chun in modern transcription, but there are sooooo many different ways to write it, unless you take characters which are clear where letters are not. Actually the guys practicing this style are constantly arguing whether their VC Ving Chun, WT Wing Tsun, WC Wing Chun or VT Ving Tsun is the best, always talking about the same style but thinking they were better than all the others. And by the way I'm not one of them.
I'm doing another style of Gongfu (more commonly known and misprononced in Wade-Giles transcription as Kung-Fu), the Tanglang Quan e.g. praying mantis style.

Now that you say it, poor dino! I bet he didn't expect that when he was invited to be part of "dino riders"... Yeah the auspex sword was a risk, but I'm still happy with it. Like you said suitable for a xenos inq, especially for Leonard. Actually his other equipment makes sense too, but only if you know his background. And unlike it seemed to some, the name Leonard Rankenstein doesn't refer to him as the monster. The monster wasn't called Frankenstein, the scientist who created it was. Leonard Rankenstein's story cut short: Leonard is as loyal to the imperium as one can be and he is more aware of the dangers to mankind than most, even within the ordos. Every inquisitor fights threats to mankind as he comes across it, always focussing on the evils he was tought to fight, hardly knowing much about the other ordos secret insights, but heretics, witches, mutants and daemons are petty threats compared to the infinitely more dangerous xenos infestations through tyranids or even orks. Multiplying at incredible rates and almost impossible to contain, it is a matter of time before the imperium of man will be swallowed whole. Rankenstein knows that and he knows that mankind, with its practically nonexisting ability to adapt to the everchanging requirements of a war on multiple fronts, will not stand a chance against the rapid evolution the tyranid race possesses. The future of mankind put in jeopardy, what restrictions can be applied to the actions of one whose duty it is to secure the future of a whole race? None! How could one not use the most powerful tools at his disposal, whatever they are? Clinging to dogmatic ideals isn't purity, it's ignorance and in the end the foolishness of those who know, but shy away from taking the necessary measures against it, will doom every single human being in existence. Rankenstein has wisened up to these facts during his duty and he has cast aside any morals that hinder him in protecting his race. How can one be more loyal than by sacrificing his own beliefs to protect whom he serves, mankind. Rankenstein created a secret network that spans several systems, installing hidden research facilities on innumerable planets in order to unlock the genetical potencial of the xenos for humanity. His work bore fruit, thanks to him the death watch can use improved weaponry and ammunition, through his insights the maneuvres of hivefleets became a little more predictable and in many cases measures can be taken to avoid more severe damage to the imperium and the success proves him right, but it's not enough. To know when to run and how to strike back more efficiently is of little help, when you fight a living leviathan that will outlive anything you can bring to bear. Only when one pushes through into the heart of evil, one can hope to destroy it. The most promising yet incomplete projects that Rankenstein could bring to live are working on genetic and operative enhancements of various human species through hybridization with tyranid specimen and on the creation of a large scale psionic relay broadcasting an artificial sentience that emulates the collective mind of a hive. Success would likely make Leonard the saviour of his race, premature exposure will certainly make him an arch-heretic in the eyes of his ignorant kin. So you can see he is a special breed of inquisitor and his equipment is adjusted to the needs of taking samples from all kinds of xenos. Making cutting, lifting and analysing tools a nessecity. He normally also comes with multiple cryo-servs, who take care of the precious glands and organs that can be looted from the right specimen.

Hey folks, the day has been quite good.
I didn't take pictures yet and I didn't manage to finish anything, but I made good progress on several projects:
I sawed and cut and filed all day to bring together the countless bitz for the divesuit guy and I finally put together the three core elements of his torso with a truckload of GS in between to give him the right bulkyness.
I also worked on a couple of my inquisitorial troopers and managed to find and apply the right head swaps for them. (Loyal followers will recall I'm using vostroyans with some more medieval touch ups.) I realized that one of the things that makes the generally great vostroyan line infantry a little awkward is the bad positioning of the heads. Some of the overall poses are quite dynamic, but the heads really mess it up because they all look straight ahead. I'm really pleased with how they turned out and as soon as I build some bases for them I'm gonna take pics of them.
I've also started working on a new little side project, where I'm turning one of the new finecast necronlords into a admech guy. I've successfully removed his head from the hood, reduced any overly necronlike design elements and removed his whole torso and arms to be replaced by more imperial looking parts. I'm happy with his pose already and found a good replacement body and left arm, I just need to find a good right arm and fitting weapons and alter the look of his legs, to look less necron, then he's good to go. Nice, quick and easy conversion!
I didn't paint today apart from giving my recently acquired citadel stippling brush a testrun, which didn't quite convince me. If anyone can share positive experience with it, I'd be grateful, maybe I made some elementary mistake.
Apart from that I'm still focussing on Samariannes paintjob and it's going veeery slowly, but I'm kinda happy with the last results.

You can stipple with any rigid brush. Stippling is a technique with origins in oil-painting. I haven't used GW's stipple brush, but I wouldn't say that it is a gimmick per-se. Stippling is a technique that I have used quite a bit on terrain projects.

Hey guys, thanks for the advice, I was aware of the general idea of stippling though. My question was really about the citadel brush, because like Peter said it can be done with any rigid brush, but the gw one isn't just rigid, I think given enough time one could scratch through terminator armor with it. Also it didn't quite work for me, the individual bristles are so thick, they produce a rather blunt pattern and gentle stippling doesn't do anything, you have to violate both brush (I know that's normal for this technique) and miniature.
Do you normally dry your brush as much as you would when drybrushing, or do you use with more paint on the brush? I tried both, but neither effect was really satisfying.
@Rawson: You're right I wouldn't like just reading about it either, but be assured there are some pictures in the pipeline for you.
I haven't had time for the hobby today, but I'm going to paint/sculpt a little tonight.
So long....

Busy day and not all of the business was positive, but I managed to make serious progress on the Retiarius.
I decided to actually put someone inside the suit, so I hollowed out the entire torso to create space for the future tennant.
I also found the right backpack combination and can assemble it soon.
There is still a pile of work left to do: I have to sculpt the torso armor and helmet shut, sculpt the shins, add tons of details to various parts and rethink/revamp the net for the "webber".
In order to avoid leaving you to chew on mere words again, I have prepared a little preview pic of the core elements of the conversion so far. It somehow got scrambled... alright I admit it, I'm teasing git! Have fun guessing...

I'm feeling good, both painting and modelling has been a blast!
My paint session on Samarianne last night led to very slow, but essential and satisfying progress, as I pretty much did the whole freehand on her apron.
And my retiarius-styled, dive suit wearing battle servitor (I codenamed him "golem" for now.) just received the next lump of gray stuff, which will form the helmet when I'm done.
This part was a bit tricky, since it doesn't just need to have a complex shape forming a sphere with the other parts, it also needed to be hollow in order to fit in the head and interior.
I hope it all worked as well as it seemed, but I won't know before it's completely cured and I can take it apart again. Automatically Appended Next Post: dsteingass wrote:What is that melta-looking gun, top row, third from the left?
Soo not a melta! It's actually part of an ork axe.

Update:
Samarianne's apron is finished.
Her boots and leather straps are next, they only need proper highlights though.
No progress on the golem, since I didn't have the time to convert during the last few days. But tomorrow is conversion-friday, so I'm gonna get some stuff done tomorrow.
In other news:
I've got my finecast empire captain, the plastic empire general and the plastic saurus.
The latter will be my next PMW... well my next PMRRFPCM-project (pimpmyrecentlyreleasedfantasyplasticcharactermodel).
You may start guessing what I'll turn him into. As a hint it will be 3rd edition inspired...

Okay, here we go! I've got to say though, that I changed my mind, so there won't be plenty previews tonight. Don't cry, read on, will you...
I had originally planned to work on the golem today and in the end I didn't even touch it once. I worked on several different porjects again and when I started being afraid I wouldn't get anything done beyond mindless tinkering I decided to focus on one quick conversion instead.
The base model for this conversion is the empire captain I mentioned earlier:
No need to say it's an absolutely gorgeous miniature and cried for a proper treatment "me-style"
I had an eye on this one for a month now and finally bought it in order to turn it into a captain for my medieval-looking ordo hereticus troopers.
The conversion was meant to be a simple weapon swap, because I didn't want to change anything on the lovely sculpt, except those stupid feathers.
So feathers off, reshaped the helmet, removed the pistol hand, usual cleanup, found a nice loadout, decided to remove the details from the right pauldron, found a proper base, removed the skull box from his right hip to create space (and because it was badly cast), replaced it with some grenades and added a targetter to his helmet to emphasize 40k look.
In the sculpting stage I had to redo part of the helmet and visor, where the feathers covered the whole area and didn't came off nicely, also added details to the targetter. Because his right boot is slipping down on the base model I sculpted a knee pad to cover the "bare" knee. I also closed the sigmar details on the cloak and of course filled any other gaps.
So here he comes, finished in one day:
Hauptmann Theoderich Amaler - Captain of the Lionhearts of Berlichingen - currently in service of Inquisitor Iudex Probitas of the Ordo Hereticus:
Pics look worse on preview than they actually are in the gallery. I took them with my cellphone though, so don't expect too much.
