Okey, I'll try to clarify my thoughts, or feelings more likely
The proportions on your blank model are alright and rather realistic, but that's what bothers me: the exaggerated miniature scale style of head, weapons and other details makes me feel this dissonance with more realistic scale body, so that's why the legs seems short to me. Though this are just my 2c and a matter of preference, of course.

And a little thought on your "Mutant Cavalry" came to my mind: what do you think about the beasts, ridden by Bloodcrushers of Khorne, the Juggernauts, as a basic idea for centaurus "horse" body? Not exactly this torsos, may be, but something in a similar style... Kinda like a horses in those Khornish brass armor plates and with bulkier legs?

Well, Eldar and Dark Eldar weapons might be a better fit scale wise, but I don't want to use GW weapons, due to IP issues. I want them to be of my own making.

Ishkatar - The Hasslefree heads I am using are pretty compatable scale wise to realistic proportions, so that is OK. And if all else fails, I'll be able to lengthen the legs of the resin models alot easier than with the GS ones.

Juggernaught-like Centaurs for 40K would be so cool! I'll have to keep that in mind when and if I ever get around to them! Ooooo! Maybe even add Berzerker upper bodies to them!

Anyway, I did some work last night. I completely re-did the sword. I kept it thin and added the power nodes. The pistol is coming along nicely. And I added the "flowy" parts of the sash.

And here is a side by side with the plasma pistol and an IG Las Pistol. As you can see they are just about the same size.

So, let me know what you think.

Thanks.

Finger might be a little long on your pistol- watch where the tip is. Right now, it's not in a bad position, but it would only end up being the finger-tip on the trigger, not the first knuckle.

as it happens i think this is quite a good posing for that trigger finger... just right beneath the trigger and not on the trigger... just like real soldiers do...so that no accidential shots come off...

the sword in the form now looks very cool... my issue now is the power cord/nodes thingy you added... shouldn´t it be too a bit curved like the sabre/falchion? i think this would make it look a bit more "willed" design...
also i think (but i also think this you are working on...) that the handles of sword and pistol are a bit too thin...
also i think that the pistol is a bit too thick for the holster... don´t you think so too? i know we are talking here about a size and scale that is ridiculous to discuss... i put it all down to those really detailed pics^^

but all things aside... tremendous work mate! i truly love this thread...hope you still see that through my sometimes negative musings...^^

Thanks guys! And El Vic hit the nail on the head. I was going for the appearance of "trigger control", and in all actuallity, you wouldn't want your first knuckle to pull the trigger anyway. If you use your finger tip, you get a smother pull, and less jerkiness.

If you look the Las Pistol, they actually have too much finger on the trigger. But in model terms I guess it does look more menacing. More "iminent threat". So, you have a very valid point Anvildude, and thanks.

I was going to bulk up the handles, but now that the hands are on, I'm not sure it would look right. The pistol grip will be shortened, but I don't think it will be thicker. And if the handles were much thicker, she couldn't get her hands around them comfortably.

For the power cord/nodes, I made them curved at first, but it didn't look right, so I straightened them out.

Thanks Dave!

But no one mentioned the pommel of the sword! What do you think of it? (in case you can't tell, it's supposed to be an eagle.)

like in hannah montana? lol...

didn´t see the budgie at first... now...er... i think the idea is right...but then it does seem a bit budgie-like... but also i would think that design is a bit too loyal? maybe a claw would ahve been better? just musing here...well if i continue to brag around here i think if i would be facing that kind of talk on my blog...i would either get real good in an act of selfdefense or crack...^^ as for the hadles... well a bit thicker to get that gripping detail we need to not view them as stick attached to blades and barrels would be helpful... oh and how about adding a sling and a ring to the pistol like the old WWI officers had? so that they couldn´t loose their guns in mid battle? that would be cool too...

also well if you tried already the curved power nodes and it didn´t look good i take yer word for it

and i only nag around because i really like your stuff.. others can testify about that kind of nagging from me... the ones that i only praise are in deep^^

Oh Vic, if Hanna were really in Montana, I think I would have to leave.

And these Commissars I'm making for commissions are for a Vostroyan Army, so they are very much loyal. And it does look a bit parrot-like

Yeah, a bit of texture on the handles I think I can do.

oh did you mention that they would be for a vostroyan army? didn´t recall that...hmmm... and i expected them to be of chaosy origin... my fault^^ maybe if you add a layer of gs to the bird then you could sculp on some lines to suggest some claws and feathers? i know it is tiny to say the least... maybe it is again something that will look quite different when painted... that happens to me a lot^^

and yay to the detailed handles^^

The laws of physics have no place in the world of 40k. There is also no way a bolt pistol will fit in the empty holsters that come with the Space Marines.

And I go by the motto "Go Big or Go Home."

Yeah, it's too big. But I like it.

Hehe and how when brought up they always click for no discernible reason. I mean, hey, if they were not all friggen Glocks you could argue that it was the hammer being cocked or the safety flipped off (with say a revolver or 1911) but a Glock has neither!

You know why her scabbard is so small? Because she never needs to sheath her sword! THERE IS ONLY WAR!

(Incidentally that also sort of explains her outfit... being unable to put down her power sword since she was 12, she has since filled out a bit while wearing the same clothes... )

That is awesome!

I did add some texture to the handles of both weapons, Thanks Vic! And I added an Iron Cross type medal on her lapel. A bit more work on the plasma pistol, but I still need to add very small rivets to it. I'm not adding the GW standard "exposed hoses and tubes and pipes for no apparent reason". I'm going for a sleek version. More fitting for a lady.

Also, I got a package in the mail yesterday!

This stuff!

It's a two part substance, kind of like GS, but it's a clay. But it sands, drills and taps like GS. And is a lot cheaper! I'll be using it to make the bulk of the horse bodies I'm working on, and to fill cracks and gaps in my Mk I Rhinos. Particularly the gaps between the hull and the track sections. And to square off the track sections on the front and back that is "rounded" off for no apparent reason.

Anyway, not much to show yet, so I didn't take pictures. Hopefully I'll have time to get some work done this weekend!

And I just wanted to say again, thanks to those who offer critiques and observations! I couldn't do this stuff without feedback! (well, I could, but it would look like feth!) And early next year, I am going to be "Giving Back" to my faithfull readers! Raffle-style! I don't know for sure what the prize will be yet. But stay tuned for more information!

I just got the 1 Pound order. I didn't want to got nuts in case I didn't like it. I bought straight from Aves. $15.00 for the Apoxie Sculpt, and $10.85 for shipping. I got the Green color. It shows up better when sculpting. To save shipping next time I think I'll got for the 4 pound order. That is, unless something happens to change my mind about it. But so far I like it.

As soon as I opened the box I started to fill in gaps and smooth off the track sections of my rhinos. I sanded it down this morning, and apart from needing a bit more in some spots to smooth it out. I really like it! The part I like best is that you can add a bit of water, and it gets softer and easier to work with! Too much water and it becomes a sloppy mess, but even the sloppy mess will cure, and be just as hard as the rest of it! It is not waterproof when soft, but it is when cured.

I'll take pics tonight. to show what I mean.

That was my thoughts exactly, yet, if doing things the easier way, the Jaggernaught bodies might be way too bulky for the Berzerker's torsos, I suppose.
I think of some kind of a half naked overmuscled bodies (in contrast with armoured horse torso), wearing ancient Rome gladiator style armour, some furs or wrapped with chains (or all together), dual wielding some Chain-Axes... Oh, that would be awesome!

Use chaos knight horse bodies, and maybe even the knight bodies for the conversion. Mix in some Berzerker bits are you should be golden, though you might want to use some plasticard to bulk them out a bit.
