I really like the stitched hood on that one cultists - it's got a very "painterly" quality - like cover art from a 1980's or 90's White Dwarf or something.

And now of course I need to buy those cultists next time I do a UK order...

Yeah I highly recommend them. There were loads of head and arm options I didn't use so you can make loads without them looking too samey.

Thanks hk1x1, I love the old skelies too.

I’m quite fond of the not-quite old school wights and armored skeletons. I think that era is a sweet spot between sculpting quality and character. Modern stuff is technically nice, but often soulless. Ancient stuff is full of character, but often soft on detail.

Heh. "Those Undead are Soulless." I imagine they are, Nevelon.

Greetings and salutations.

These goff orks asked nicely if I would hurry up and paint them so:

Those oldschool orks always get people right in the nostalgia-oblongata. Thanks for commenting y'all.

Next project is modern plastic plaguebearers, which will be FOR SALE on feebay once completed as I am running out of space and what space there is in the display cabinet is reserved for 80s-90s nostalgia models...

I'm wondering how to paint the plague bearers, I liked how ifalna painted her's - http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/732756-Bearer%2C%20Colour%2C%20Daemons%2C%20Nurgle%2C%20Plage%2C%20Plaguebearers%2C%20Rot%2C%20Sigmar%2C%20Warhammer%2040%2C000.html

But then again I might do them more traditionally rotting flesh coloured.

Maybe a bit of both then. Mostly rotting flesh and then bring attention to certain areas with brighter colours to show just how far the "blessing" has gone.

That sounds like the best option all round Dr H.I've just got to decide what colours to chuck in the first wash. A base with a hint of green is traditional... but I could start with a grey blue or a pinkish brown and work up to a green glaze at the end, make it more interesting.

this !

Plague bearers would look good in a pale base with patches of both styles of colouring, the purples really work to highlight areas of rot ( whatever is is )

This is what I've got so far... not done yet though... More bright colours and highlights needed I think.

I started with a mixed grey, green and sepia wash. Once that was dry wounds were picked out in german orange and boils were highlighted in beige and pale rose, teeth are a pale flesh and a mix of green ink + metallic medium did for the plague-swords. deep areas are shaded with black wash, particularly around the belly and armour wash is applied to the swords. Cherry red wash is liberally applied to wounds, boils and swollen areas:

Do you mean nurgle? Less a vocation, more an infection...

Actually speaking of art I'm having one of those terrible urges to spend 100 pounds right now. Deathwatch Overkill is preying on my weakness for genestealer hybrids. Cant really afford it yet.

Totally nailed them. You really have a flare for these old models. Seeing these and the old orks, reminds me of the excitement of all those years ago, looking at GW books and wishing I could do that, beautiful work.

Hey thanks camkierhi, but those plaguebearers aren't all that old surely... or maybe I am so old that ten years looks recent to me now... get off my lawn!

Anyway I'm still young enough to paint fast, so here are the finished bearers

These will be for sale soon on ebay as I'm running out of room to store or display. If anyone should be interested in buying them off me direct and depriving ebay of their cut, please PM me.

I have no idea on the age of those Bearers, but your wonderful art work is more what I would be getting at. Things have changed so much since the early 90's when I first picked up a anything GW, but your painting reminds me of that buzz, honestly it is a wonderful thing.

Oh and the verdigre on those swords is perfect.

Thanks... looking at them I would say they are some of my best work.

If it goes well I am going to do this more. Now my collection of 80s stuff is gradually becoming (bout 80%)all painted up in the cabinet I can spend my hobby time painting and selling new stuff. Maybe get a bit closer to the dream of being a pro.

Moving swiftly back to the eighties, here are more gretchin! They are definitely not for sale. Notice the ones with big heads; they are space crusade, I shortened their legs so that they would fit in. Its worked so well I might get more.
