Would the scale and look of these fit in with using other Games Workshop Empire models?

Has also used Perry Miniatures for their KoW armies? If the Perry minis do not work what other alternatives are out there?

The problem you will find with historical models and GW models is GW models are very heroically proportioned (everything is bigger).

If you used Perry miniatures with other historical models then the army will look fantastic, but mixing Empire models with historical models will be noticeable.

My advice will be to stick to GW models or to use all historical models.

The list of historical models is endless but I suggest looking at: War-games factory, warlord games and Perry miniatures off the top of my head.

You also don't have to use knights and so on, you can use any human army you want. Egyptians, Zulu, Samurai, Lord of the Rings and the list is endless.

Hm... but using GW models for heroes and general and artillery should be ok right? E.g. Karl Franz on Griffin. There are no historical for the organ gun because... its not historical.

I think going Historicals will be the way to go for the base stock troops.

Yea using that monster will be fine, but lets say you put a GW cannon next to a historical cannon then the difference will be noticeable.

I reckon, if you have no models yet, chose a scale and stick with it. If you chose historical, then with a little bit of converting you can have historical soldiers riding griffons or have multi barreled cannons and so on.

Historical is also going to be cheaper (well it is here).

It can work though. Using heroes and stuff like that from WH should be okay, especially since they dont go in the same units like theyd do in WHF. Probably a lot easier than tryaing to convert historicals to ride a griffon...

Err, the ribauldequin, or organ gun, was indeed a real weapon. Maybe you meant Volley Gun, which that ridiculous Empire model is titled?

The most recent GW Empire model for it is sheer poppycock, but the older models were based on actual pieces. (I like the model... but why get rid of the old standby?)

You can thank Mr. da Vinci.... I am pretty sure that the triangular one in the lower corner is the one that GW based the Volley gun off of, kind of. But they turned it sideways, and have fewer barrels than da Vinci's concept.)

There are several good Historical miniatures for organ guns. (The Mantic model for the dwarf army is not bad - Mantic favors smaller field pieces.)

The Auld Grump - GW actually creates very little 'out of their own heads'.

Traditionally Warhammer Empire is based on things like the Italian Wars of the early 1500's so these guys would fit right in http://us-store.warlordgames.com/collections/landsknecht

GW stuff is a little fantastical to mix in (monkey faced Empire troops who weren't issued boots), but if you were to do a whol army of the War of the Roses figures then it would look pretty great. If your Warhammer Empire stuff is 4th through 6th edition, they match pretty well. It's only the newer models that are oversized and ridiculous.

Don't listen to these guys and their assumptions.

I have a Kingdoms of Men army that is 90% Perry minis. Plastics from the Wars of the Roses line (like the ones you linked) and some metals from their Hundred Years War line.

They look awesome.

You probably don't want to mix Perry and GW on the same unit base, but the size is only part of that. The looks are very different, as well.

But a unit of Perry next to a unit of GW looks fine. The size different is too small to notice.

Some of GW's heroes are a bit large, but hey, they are heroes.

The Perry plastics are a great deal, around 80 cents per figure, and they are easy to assemble, and easy to paint. Crisp detail, as well, with very little clean up needed.

Though you can certainly mix the older Perry GW models with current Perry models (along with Perry models from Foundry).

What assumptions?

I only pointed out that the ribaldquin was a real gun, not something that GW made up.

I certainly have no objection to using Perry plastics - and I am quite willing to mix GW and Perry units in the same army. (And in the case of some of the older GW plastic halberdiers, designed by the Perrys, even in the same unit.)

Some day, I'd like the Perrys to do some plastic pirates.... And plastic ships cannon to go with.

The Auld Grump

*EDIT* Using a GW figure for the unit leader (middle, front rank) makes it easy to figure who to measure from.

He's clearly not talking about you.

I do agree though - if you don't mix the newer GW models in the same units as the Perrys' you'll be fine. GW's models even within the same lines are often out of scale to one another as much as two different manufacturers. Use whatever you like!

Besides, people are different heights/sizes in real life anyway. Take a look around your work/schoolmates and people on the street and in the shops.

Heh, I was (mostly) joking.

I love the Perry War of the Roses minis - and use them in Mordheim as well as building my Empire League army from them, with odd GW bits.... (I still love the steam tank.... have for a long time.)

And the Perry's GW plastics do look just fine next to them.

One of my main problems with GW over recent years is that scale has meant less and less to them, with proportions becoming more cartoony over time.

Empire... mostly escaped that, aside from The Emperor on his Thunderchicken! (Grrrr... hate that mini so much....)

With Kings of War... I find myself back in the happy confusion of 'which armies?!' - plural. (League, Brotherhood, Empire of Dust, and Herd... all calling to me.... EoD will be next, I already have most of the figures....)

*EDIT* I have a Battalion box for Tomb Kings, and there were a LOT of mummies in the Bones kickstarters.... and a humongous skeletal dragon.... My EoD army may be relegated to a campaign role. Kaladrax deserves special rules.

The Auld Grump - it's a good feeling, trust me.

Are you actually going to use Kaladrax in games? I have one, and have taken it out of the box two or three times, and each time I realized that it's really to big for gaming (IMO). I may just make a lamp out of it...

Painting total as of 12/31/2024: 107 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and five giants

I've done the same and come to the same conclusion. I think Kaladrax might be a good centrepiece for a scenario, or possibly a piece of epic terrain - like something from Dragonblight in Northrend (in World of Warcraft).

A terrain piece? That's a pretty good idea. I still wish I'd gotten Nethyrmaul instead.

Big enough that I plan to use it as the DEATH of Dragons. (Maybe a Psychopomp).)

Not Good, not Evil, it is simply DEATH. (AND SPEAKS ALL IN CAPITAL LETTERS.)

*EDIT* I got my Kaldraxs for $10, through the first Bones Kickstarter.

Same here. At the time, I thought it was too good a deal to pass up.

Similar to Grump, I'd imagine Kaladrax as a dragon so old and powerful that death itself is just another plaything for him.
