Subject: Terminally ill patient hopes to see Force Awakens early before cancer takes him *UPDATED STORY*
Saw this and immediately thought of the movie Fanboys and hope Abrams is a cool as fictional George Lucas was in the film.
I am not a big fan of hash tag activism, but this sort of noise making is something I can get behind. Really cool that Hamill and Boyega are in support, and the precedent Abrams set with Star Trek: Into Darkness may mean this guy gets his dying wish.
It wouldn't be the internet without some ugliness, however. There is a small backlash against this story from people who think this man is trying to benefit from his illness, or that a request like this puts undue pressure on Disney to appease a single person's wish.

By Cassidy Hopkins, The Hollywood Reporter
Mark Hamill and John Boyega retweeted the hashtag #ForceForDaniel to show their support for Daniel Fleetwood, a 32-year-old Star Wars fan with terminally ill cancer.
The hashtag is being used on Twitter to gain the attention of Walt Disney Studios. Supporters of “ForceForDaniel,” hope the studio will allow Fleetwood to watch The Force Awakens before its Dec. 18 release.
Fleetwood has spindle cell sarcoma, a rare form of connective tissue cancer. Doctors informed him in July that he had just two months to live.
Fleetwood told Houston’s KPRC-TV that he has been a fan of Star Wars since he was eight or nine years old.
“Judging by how progressive the disease has gotten in the past two months I really don’t think that I’ll be able to make it,” Fleetwood said.
A GoFundMe page has been set up by Fleetwood’s wife, Ashley, to raise money for medical bills. The page features photos of Fleetwood in Star Wars attire, including a Yoda hat and Darth Vader zip-up jacket.
Ashley tweeted a picture last week of her husband in more Star Wars attire:
The viral campaign has been featured predominately on Twitter, with Hamill and Boyega retweeting the tweet below to their own profiles:
Peter Mayhew, who is the actor behind Chewbacca, retweeted a similar tweet.
Ashley said in a Facebook post that the actors’ support has been “amazing.”
Mark Hamill played Luke Skywalker in the original trilogy and is reprising his role in the series’ new installment The Force Awakens. Newcomer Boyega plays ex-Stormtrooper Finn in the upcoming film and has been widely featured in the movie’s new poster and trailer.
J.J. Abrams, director of The Force Awakens, granted New York-based film buff Daniel Craft a similar dying wish back in 2013.
Craft had a terminal cancer and, as a Star Trek fan, wanted to see Star Trek Into Darkness before it was released. Abrams granted him early access and Craft died just days after seeing the film.

If he has terminal cancer, then fething good on him if he can find some way to benefit from that.
Pretty much yes. The drawbacks of having terminal cancer far outweigh any possible benefit. People who say that should be ashamed of themselves.
I really hope this guy gets his wish.

This. It's like people have become so pessimistic that the idea of anything ever being done simply to be nice or compassionate is the devil and must be destroyed.

That's why we need to do this for every new movie; prerelease teriminal patient screening. Do you want some poor kid dying of cancer with your gakky film being the last thing they saw?!
Necros wrote: If I was a tweeter I'd retweet it too.
The naysayers are just trolls that are jealous that they don't get to see it early too.
Absolutely. Somehow they don't feel guilt for being jealous of a dying man over something so simple.

I just lost one of my friends rather unexpectedly to a heart attack, he was a huge star wars fan and ever since they announced the new film we'd been talking constantly about seeing the new movie and planning for what our group was going do for the premiere. Now we're going to have an empty seat and it stinks knowing that he didn't get the chance to see it. I'm a bit torn that he won't be there enjoying it with us.
I hope this guy is able to get a special screening, yeah it's just a movie but it's also something incredibly special and meaningful to the fans. There's nothing wrong with trying to enjoy your last moments with something you enjoy. The people complaining he's trying to use terminal illness to his advantage are a bunch of disrespectful tools.

I agree with timetowaste85's agreement with Insaniak, and would add more words but don't want yet ANOTHER account suspension.
I hope he gets to see it. And i hope it's better than Episodes 1-3.

Is it (the movie) even finished yet? They've cut deadlines pretty close in the past on other projects and as massive an undertaking as Star Wars is, I'd be surprised if it were finished more than a week out.

On Thursday, an unfinished cut of Star Wars: The Force Awakens was screened for Daniel Fleetwood, a 32-year-old Houston resident and fervent fan of the franchise who’s dying from a rare form of cancer. Given two months to live by doctors in July, Fleetwood feared that he would succumb to his disease before The Force Awakens’ Dec. 18 release date. His wife Ashley began a campaign using the hashtag #ForceForDaniel, and it quickly went viral, with fellow fans and even some Star Wars actors advocating for Fleetwood to see the long-awaited sequel while he was still strong enough to watch.
On Thursday, Ashley wrote on her Facebook page that Daniel’s wish had come true, following a phone call the night before with director J.J. Abrams. The studio brought the film to his home.
“Daniels final dream was just granted!!!” she wrote. “Today the wonderful Disney and Lucasfilm made his final dream come true, in the amazing typical Disney way, they really do make dreams come true!”
The #ForceForDaniel campaign was boosted by endorsements from one of the franchise’s original stars, Mark Hamill, as well as two of its new stars, John Boyega and Daisy Ridley. Boyega retweeted a message of support, while Ridley gave a shout out on her Instagram account, writing: “ This one’s for you Daniel Fleetwood!!! We will all do what we can to make your wish come true. #forcefordaniel.”
Hamill responded joyfully to the news of the screening, tweeting, “I just read this and am elated for Daniel & his family! Thanks to the powers-that-be for making his dream come true.”
In her Facebook message, Fleetwood expressed her gratitude to the many fans who threw their support behind her husband. “Lastly I want to thank ALL the amazing people who helped make this happen, thank you beyond words!!!” she wrote. “May the force be with you all.”
