Just curious as to what people feel are the strongest small model count armies in 7th Edition. No Imperial Knights allowed.

Spoiler:

This is very variable dependent. I can see arguments for Tau and Eldar... and if you count NidZilla.. that too

Daemon Flying circus can run 15 or so models at 1850 and do pretty well. PentaTyrant is another one. IG Tank Command can run less than a dozen models. C:SM with the Cent star Tiggy, and some libs can run less than 20 models. The new Cult Mech codex has formations of Kastelons that can run around 700 pts for 6-7 models. And Chaos can run a DP and daemon engines with 20 cultist to stay under 30 models.

Out of all of those, "best" IMO would be the Daemon Flying Circus. Fatey + 1 LOC backed by 3 DP or Fatey+Screamerstar will wreck non-competitive list, and runs 25-35 models, with 20 of them being horror charge batteries.

SW can do it pretty well, and still be strong. Bundle of thunderwolves, toss a knight or two, and you have an 1850 list that will be a tough nut to crack.

3 knights. thats pretty small model count. (EDIT: oh wait you said no knights)

But seriously I would probably go to the Daemon flying circus for my choice of small model count.

Or the Eldar all wraith army. which would be pretty nasty with all the D weapons

I'm constructing a mechanicus army that has 6 Kastelan Robots (plus 3 datasmiths), 6 Grav Destroyers in 2 chimeras, an inquisitor, and 6 henchmen. It's not exactly going to win any tournaments, but its a blast to play with.

TWC army still works fine without any knights. Knights would just be if you want your army to be really really small.

Is 'Cron-Air remotely considered "strong"?
(because that's typically got less than 30 units in an 1850 list)

You can do an Armored Spearpoint formation (I think that's what it's called), which at 2000 pts is around 10 models or so. It absolutely crumbles to melta, but it can be strong.

4000 pts
4700+ pts
2500 pts Hive Fleet Gungnir

No. But agreed - whilst it's not as powerful as some, the superheavy tank company is a disturbing thing to see setting up across the table from you!

You won't fit two companies in 2,000 points, though. One company can fit in fine - 1,500 is pushing it but possible depending on variants, inflating it to 1850 allows a lot more wiggle room for sponsons and weapon options, and giving the mandatory Enginseer some friends and gear to give the command tank a super-it-will-not-die.

Yeah not sure on points so just threw out random guess, but that would be a scary sight, an especially if you got warlord trait where units can outflank.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

Pure ad mech 300+pts for a unit of 6 (toughish) troops which can have long range grav/haywire or multi shot plas cannons or cc load outs with flamers then 250+ per heavy with the robbie the robots (2 robots 1 datasmith) 150ish for an hq. So roughly 25 models at 1550pts. Is only real weakness is cc.

You know, that might actually be quite interesting to play with/against. The spearhead lets you take all the different variants, doesn't it?

If only there was a way to put Techmarines in all of them. This would also be scary if Iron Hands chapter tactics would work on Land Raiders. Or if you could take Land Raider Achilles in the formation with Iron Hands CT.
