http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/40569/first-look-cumberbatch-as-doctor-strange

The cover of the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly has premiered a first look at Benedict Cumberbatch in full costume and make-up as the title character in Marvel's "Doctor Strange". Scott Derrickson helms the movie and released the photo through his Twitter account as well as the EW official site

Filming on the movie is still underway and the actor spoke with the trade about training for his role: "I'm still in the infancy of learning all that. It was like, okay, I've got to keep throwing these poses, these spells, these rune-casting things, everything he does physically. I'm thinking, there's going to be a huge amount of speculation and intrigue over the positioning of that finger as opposed to it being there, or there. And I'm still working on that. We haven't played any of those scenes yet. I felt really self-conscious. But, then, by the end, it was great. It's like anything, you just have to experiment."

Tilda Swinton, Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Mads Mikkelsen also star in the film which opens November 4th next year.

I'm somewhat surprised it's as close to the comic book as it is... coudn't really say why there though

Seems alright however, and I quite dig the spell effect.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

I could see him almost perfectly in that role.

Mordo's confirmed. Thus far, we know Cumberbatch is Strange, Chiwetel Ejiofor is Mordo ( He was excellent as the villain in Serenity, so I have high hopes), and Tilda Swinton is the Ancient One. No word so far as I'm aware on McAdams or Mikkelson, but I'd say the smart money is on Dormammu on the latter.

All mediums I've seen Mordo in, he's usually a pretty angry guy who lets his emotions rule him. And he's kind of a dick. The operative from Serenity was a face of calm, despite how many times he ran into Mal. I have no other experience with the guy's acting chops. Can he do emotion?

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

He does, they're going more in line with his current look for his new comic series that just came out, sans gloves

Not that he did particularly well at the killing Zombies part.

I've gotta say, I don't like the Punishers look. He seems less like "The Punisher" and more like, "random 24 henchman #43261"

Eh, I dunno. I have ST Into Darkness on right now and I'm just again reminded of his limited range as an actor.

I guess he'll be fine so long as he's playing Doctodict Cumberstrange.

I don't think that that's necessarily his range, more these fact he keeps on getting hired to pay the same kind of character. Here actually complained about it in interviews a few times, having said he wants to play a smooth talking charmer kind of character that was a bit of a 'heartthrob'.

He usually referred to romcom types though, as opposed to superheroes.

Sometimes you don't get cast in certain roles because you haven't given casting directors a reason to think you have a prayer of pulling it off.

He just wasn't very good in the Khan role. I end up chuckling during the moments that he's trying to be menacing. To be clear, he's still a better overall actor than Montalban, a scenery-chewer extraordinaire. But Ricardo at least projected the kind of charisma and fire that you'd expect from a leader/conqueror/warlord/etc. CumberKhan was (not surprisingly) very cold, controlled and calculating. Not exactly a big stretch for him, and probably not the best approach if you're trying to show that you can do something different.

Again, I'm sure it'll work so long as they don't ask him to step out of his range. But I would have preferred an actor who could pull off the kind of breezy cool that Cumberbatch can't.
