Titanfall. Avatar. District 9. Seems everywhere on screen are some awesome and realistic powered walkers, but im having difficulty finding some that match these on the tabletop. GW only really does dreadnaughts for human factions, but do any of you know where i might find something better- resin/plastic and 'near future' would be epic. Thanks a bunch!

Anvil Industries do some awesome near future mech suits, ranging from simple exo-suits to robots to Dread-sized walkers:

Somewhere in south-central England.

Hobby Link Japan has loads of great walker type robot toys and kits.

You need to keep looking fairly often as they can sell out.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I'd check out the following.

1) AT43. Technically OOP, but alot of places have old stock and it's usually going cheap. A very modern or near/future mecha style and quite a variety of mecha.

2) Votoms model kits. If you like Heavy gear, you'll love the japanese mechs they took most of their design inspriation from. The 1/48 scale hardsuits are a great option.

3) Robogear. A line of mecha imported from russia and marketed for a while by Airfix and Imex. Some of them are a bit goofy, but there are a few really cool models in there and they are all dead cheap.

4) If you can find them, the OOP Gasraki mecha have a really great aesthetic that is clearly japanese, but more military and less gundamy.

I would second the Anvil Industries stuff.

Also here's some stuff from my favorites list that I come back to and drool over. As a heads up, some of these are more powered armor size while others are battle mechs:

Mantic
Strider

Iron Ancestor
http://www.manticgames.com/mantic-shop/deadzone/vehicles/product/forge-father-urban-pattern-iron-ancestor.html

Rebel Minis (These are metal but worth a look)
Kodiak Battlesuits
http://www.rebelminis.com/eafokoclba.html
Widowmaker Battlesuits
http://www.rebelminis.com/eafowiclba.html
URSA (this is actually for 15mm but I think it's large enough to work in 28mm)
http://www.rebelminis.com/urbame.html

Puppets War (He's got a lot of good stuff worth browsing)
Prime Walker

Destroyers

Rippers

Strikers

Victory Force (Metal and very complicated builds but good looking)
CLAWS
http://www.victoryforce.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=VFM&Product_Code=335010&Category_Code=Aurora

Zandris IV (Also metal but I like the look of some of these)
Satria, Pendakar, and Bouncer Battlesuits
http://z4miniatures.blogspot.com/2010/04/online-shop-28mm-sci-fi.html

MechaFront (These are designed for 15mm but they are pretty good sized and might suit your needs. I think they would work very well for remotely controlled weapons platforms in 28mm)
http://www.mechafront.com/15mm.html

Khurasan Miniatures is also a 15mm company that dabbles in 28mm. He has one very large Spider designed robot in his 15mm section that I've seen dwarfing GW space marines. It is a one man operation so he closes the webstore when he gets a backlog of orders or during his vacations. The second link is to a blog that post that BIG mech next to a space marine (keep in mind that beast is 15mm scale). By the way, his 28mm vehicles are very nice.

15mm Mortis (ditto)

Wow, the Fiddler is butt ugly!

And beautiful.

(I have a weakness for ugly but practical designs. Serenity, Millennium Falcon, Nostromo, give me ugly S.F.)

I'd actually like to see a civilian version of that mech - large manipulators in place of the guns.

The fiddler has been done (they licenced the design) as a 15mm scale mini by White Dragon Miniatures,

they just fulfilled the KS (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1393708645/marine-tactical-unit-15mm-scale-miniatures) for it and other stuff and it should be available in the next few weeks here

The Mechadrome design looks nice. It makes me think of the old Exo-squad E-frames. Man I loved that cartoon as a kid.

Yep. And we're only talking about mechs right now. There are a lot of great smaller companies out there and a good variety of games.

Speaking of games, what game are you planning on running with your near future mech?

And has anyone mentioned Maelstrom's Edge?

Their hunters and scarecrows might be what you're looking for.

The Hunters are great kits, but they might be a bit small for piloted mecha. The scarecrows are just a smidge taller than Eisenkern plastics, but they are so pose able.

Yes! I was a bit too young to have seen Robotech on TV (at least I don't recall it ever being on) so I think ExoSquad may be the genesis of my love of mechs.

Here's a blog post where I do size/scale comparisons of many of the different kind of 28mm'ish mecha that I use in my big-scale Mech Atttack convention games. http://chicagoskirmish.blogspot.com/2014/07/robotech-battletech-and-mechwarrior.html

If anyone is looking for a big-mecha conversion project, I've got a few extra Battletech action figure mechs (Thor, Axeman, and Bushwacker) I'd be willing to sell of individually. Even though they are probably the closest to 28mm of any of my collection, they are bigger than the rest of my mecha and a bit too large for my games where I downsize the mechs slighty (22-25mm approximately) to save table space.
