Just a simple show of (figurative) hands, how many of us use FW units regularly? This is under the assumption that your opponent(s)/LGS are fine with it.

Yes. Nothing wrong with them. It's when people abuse them that there is something wrong. A lot of the time the only reason one seems OP is because the opponent doesn't know what it does, as forgeworld isn't as common as regular games workshop. Therefore, the opponent doesn't know what to expect. Simply ask what a unit can do and he strong it possibly is before the game. Any fun casual gamer will gladly let you see the information on the model.

I don't have any FW models at this time, but I'm debating picking up some Tetras and a Y'Vahra for my Tau, possibly soon.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

I scratch build a lot of FW stuff for my orks.
The rules are dated, but the diversity in options is great and most of it isn't nerfed to death.

I'm the minority it looks like, but I'm yet to have a game against forge world units where at the end I say: "that was fun".

It typically ends with a conversation of: "yep, that unit is as good as you said it was..." while I bag up my army from the dead pile after turn 3.

Minor dramatization, but you get the picture.

I don't own any Forge World stuff but I would play with things like Grot Tanks if I had them. Forge World is hit or miss on rules with some really cool and interesting stuff and then some broken op gak.

I'm using the Plague Hulk regularly, it's a cheaper and weaker version of the soul grinder, nothing wrong with it.
Looking through the FW books I don't see anything that would be costed worse than usual GW stuff (looking at Tau or Eldar for example).

I use a lot of FW models, as I play 30k Word Bearers, CSM and Daemons. I don't find the FW variants I have to be better than what I can already field in 40k, but they do give me more variation which is always nice.

The way I see it, the more variant anyone can get to their army, the better - Which is why I always welcome FW.

For my Imperial Guard, I'm basically required to have forgeworld to stand a chance.

So yeah, I've got HWTs that don't suck (rapiers) a basilisk that doesn't suck (Earthshaker Carriage) and a valkyrie that doesn't suck (Vulture).

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Have run Sicaran Tank, Contemptors (plain and Mortis), a Deredeo, a Cerastus Knight-Acheron, and Rapier Quad Mortar with my Marines, plus Tac Squads using Red Scorpions chapter tactics.

Don't think this quite counts, but currently working on some Myrmidon Destructors and Castellax Battle-Automata to be counts-as Kataphrons and Kastellans for my Cult Mechanicus army (hate the look of the GW Kataphrons and Kastellans).

I don't have any FW units yet but I'm saving up for those beautiful Sons of Horus special units and some artillery for my board.

But I do have a converted Silas Albarec and I always use Red Hunters Chapter Tactics for my Exorcists so I voted yes anyways

what forgeworld models do you play against on average? just out of curiosity.

as for OP: well, I play 2 space marine legions, 30k mechanicum, and solar auxilia. so yes, I do use forge world

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

I currently don't but my final list will include a fellblade.

I am not a huge fan of the FW rules. Some of the rules have a place whereas I see most of them to be too much when compared to GW's stuff.

When I first started playing FW stuff was "have to have opponents permission to use" not allowed as by the rules. So I thought this was still the norm up until 6 months ago.

I do know that GW owns FW and FW models are fething beautiful.

Just my $.02

In general this really isnt the case, and if you look at tournaments where FW stuff is allowed, you almost never see FW stuff in top tournament armies. They certainly didnt introduce things like the sub 300pt D-toting GC or Scatterlaser jetbike troops

I will admit I don't know all the special rules and the such. Honestly I have only seen what has been posted on FW page for download and what has been discussed here on dakkadakka. So I may be making a huge generalization, which is probably true.
