Hi there !
I was wondering why did you choose the army you are playing ?
There are 18 Legions of Space Marines, what made you choose this one ?
Personnally, I began an Emperor's Children army for the following reasons:
- the paint scheme: I think they have a wonderful paint scheme, very recognizable and original.
- the story: I like their pursuit of perfection, and the fact that it, eventually, made them become the monsters we know.
- I want to play the bad guys, for once.
- the EC's unique models are gorgeous.
What about you ?

I chose the World Eaters because I've played 40k world eaters since 3rd ed and I love them so I wanted to recreate them before they turned to chaos.
|
“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

Death Guard - Their fluff is amazing, their rules are pretty fun, and the paint scheme is awesome
Thousand Sons - My 1st choice, amazing fluff, scheme, 'fluffy' armies, etc.
Solar Auxilia - They look cool, they are surprisingly super effective, and super rewarding to play
Mechanicum - See auxilia reasons above

I play Raven Guard because Raven Guard are Raven Guard.
Also, the general Raven Guard tactics are the same ones that I use in every single competitive "thing" ever.
Wait, wait, wait, then attack and completely decimate the enemy.

Iron warriors for me!
Back in the days of the CSM 3.5 codex I first encountered Iron Warriors, after reading their fluff fell in love and started a grand company of them. Sadly life threw me a curveball and I was forced to let them go.
Over a decade later 30k is around and Betrayal at Calth drops, suddenly I can get everything I need for starting a new IW grand company without breaking the bank. Not only that but now I can play loyalist IW too. I missed my little trench digggers.

Imperial Fists for me.
Why? First off all of my 40k Marines are custom chapters, with the exception of my Blood Ravens, so when 30k dropped it was my reason to finally bust into a full first founding Legion.
It took a lot of thought, and originally I was going to do Thousand Sons, so I could thematically mix them with my Blood Ravens for 40k. However after some serious thinking I decided it would be better to go with a different Legion with a different play style than "All the Psykers!" And wasn't Red.. I've painted enough red.
So my final choices came down to either the Salamanders, or the Imperial Fists, and I decided to go with the Fists as they have a really fun (to me) bunch of fluff paths to go. Defensive, Seige Style, and Boarding Party style.. all of which play fundamentally different than one anther, so I get 3 different army buildups in one legion, I get to stay Loyalist easier, and I'm painting something decidedly not red until I start my mechanicum side force..

Did Fulgrim Just Behead Ferrus?
|
My first was Emperor's Children. I've always liked the color scheme (always wanted to do, but never got around to, a Hawk Lords SM army in 40K). I like the idea of playing the noble order of martial paragons, on the edge of falling due to their own pride (my EC are mostly played as Pre-Heresy). The idea of "we're the good guys who have to actually work at staying good" appeals to me.
Second was Mechanicum, because stompy robots.
Currently unbuilt are Solar Auxilia (will be using DFG Eisenkern models) and Squat militia (using Mantic's Forgefathers).
Planned is an Iron Warriors force, largely because I have some extra vindicators and basilisks that need some love.

World Eaters and Ultramarines.
World Eaters because after reading Betrayer I really fell for the concept of noble warriors like the war hounds losing their sanity and control as well as the gladiatorial themes. Plus they represent, to me at least, the gritty, shitehole side of the Roman Empire and the Imperium. Plus Kharn.
Ultramarine, cause 30k ultras are basically Roman legions in space, and what's not to love, plus their heraldry and doctrine of theoretical and practical.

I wanted to play Centurio Ordinatus of the Mechanicum because they are big tanks, the fluff is easy to write (like Ordo Reductor fluff) and both sides fought over Ordinatus engines, so I like having the Loyalists and Traitors fight for my loyalty in the local campaigns we run!

joking aside the space wolves were my first 40k army and I've loved them ever since, from their fluff to their models I love all of it. Iron Warriors, but of the Loyalist persuasion.
- The short story 'The Iron Within' by Rob Sanders is probably my favourite piece of Heresy-era fiction. My first BL novel was Storm of Iron. The Battle of Paramar remains my favourite Heresy battle. The Iron Warriors have always been a passion of mine, but their Chaotic nature always put me off. Now I can play them, and still be a 'good guy'.
- Their fluff is fun, and they can be easily customised into a variety of directions, from the noble warriors, to the skilled engineers, to the desperate and brutal assault troops. It's a surprisingly characterful army, especially given the emotional upheaval of their allegiance.
- Playing as a Loyalist force from a Traitor legion allows you to justify all sorts of Allies shenanigans, from Imperial Fists or Space Wolves 'overseers' through to Death Guard or World Eaters troops sent to die alongside you.
- Their tactics match my own play style: turtling up, and then annihilating the enemy under the barrels of your guns, or else dropping vast amounts of artillery onto the foe before throwing forward powerful assault units to crash into their dazed ranks and tear them apart.
- Obligatory and moderately shameful, they're very easy to paint (although I'm going to throw some weathering on once I've got the main paint down, and see how that goes).

Quaestoris Knights.
I got many cheaply through the Imperial Knight: Renegade boxes, plus Vengeful Spirit is one of my favourite novels, Plus, they clearly don't use many cerastus-pattern engines (because even their 'command chassis' knights are 'normal' ones, albeit with a few custom weapons), and it makes a change from red armour (House Taranis is blue, damn it!).
Plus the Naga is a cool as hell banner.
House Devine was a force I had quite a bit of way back when in Epic when Slaaneshi Knights and Scout Titans were a thing, so I've decided to resurrect the Lannisters-In-Space. Brass metalwork and purple armour plating is a colour scheme I've never seen on (40k scale) knights and I think it might work well.

To me, Legio XIII represents the idea of nobility in a savage galaxy. The concept of holding yourself to a higher standard in character and beliefs despite everyone around trying to drag you down to their low, low level. The Ultramarines don't need to sink to callous brutality or mindless violence to conquer worlds. And they have the sense to plan ahead on their conquests to leave behind stable, self sufficient planets.
Plus, they look pretty boss when done right.

I was trying to make an admech army for a while and then one glorius day, horus heresy book one: Betrayal appeared.
I looked upon the suggestion of mechanicum at the back and saw the first official mechanicum list - i cared not that it was an allied force only; i already had the model shown in Calleb Decima's profile so i bought the book and 12 thallax as a starting point.
The thallax were pure gold - i loved every bit about them, everything felt right, the fluff was great and best of all, they look awesome!
Calleb Decima is among the absolute legends of isstvan3: comandeers a toasts half a dozen vehicles, dudes and a fething fellblade just before commandeering another fellblade, taking it to the traitors and then escaping the planet while lumping around what was left of Crysos Morturg - Legend!
Ordo Reductor vehicle units are basically a kitbasher's dream with the mechanicum land raider in book one and now the artillery batteries and macrocarid explorator keep the fun coming.
I feel an affinity for Ordo Reductor fluff; they basically do exactly what i would want to do in the 30k universe - creation and use of specially sanctioned technology to lay low that which can resist the great crusade.
Awesomesauce.
