Many thanks indeed, glad he does it for you. It tool me a while to wrap my head around what turned out to be a pretty easy job. Major Tom has been kind enough to sort me with enough furioso bits to do 2 more baby carrier fixes; challenge will be to get another Apothecary head.
Continuing the dread dilemma: I could get legs and torso from eBay for less than half the price of a Ven Dread. I have arms, feet and torso front in hand. Is that the smart choice?

Who - the NDK? Not really - I just painted, and added, the fw brass subsequently. I find it hard to visualise a model painted unless I build it first. As for the dread, it's just that I did an extra set of arms and now I'm itching to stick them on something.

Or there's the AoBR dread, which would probably be even cheaper, and there you'd have it- a torso and legs, with a front torso able to be added with some minor work here and there.

So, another week, but little to show for it I'm afraid; first full week back at work, texans invading, weekend wedding - crazy times. I've started various overdue gms projects - Njal and gitsplitta's weeping angels got their first ink washes pre White layering - and black washes for Conclave projects of a pre heresy BA and a star scorpion (Dark Star haven't forgotten yours though). #1 had some drybrushy fun for conclave with an Iron Hand, and we got his latest tank primed. I got my remaining GK tanks primed also, started work on GM Carnelian and generally shoved bits around the box. I did come up with a quick an' easy PAGK > TAGK psycannon conversion, which I'm pleased with.
I'm starting to think about a GK 1500 list, anti SM - halberds and psycannons, here we come! Pics tomorrow, hopefully.
Later,

Not been much to report on the Bloggit front; certainly nothing worth photographing. I have units of PAGK with halberds and falchions made up, but I really want to get basing done – and, tbh, painting also.
But, last night, I got a game of 1.5k, and I thought I’d share my thoughts on it, and get your views.
A bit of background. I was due to playing one of my close friends, who is as near to a hardcore 40k-er as I can imagine (multi tournament winner, as well as former Heavy metal painter); very competitive, exceptionally good strategist. He was going to be playing his current standard SM lists of termies and scouts, but for various reasons forgot it, so had asked me to throw together something for him. The only thing I had packed and ready was my old Mech Vet which I’ve really not played in over a year – it’s IG Mech Vet, it’s lethal, and it’s a little bit boring because it’s very very killy. Also, we’d had a discussion about the current tournament scene, and he’d said that in his opinion that it really was the army to beat just now; so, I thought I’d see how my GKs, unmodified from the build planned for vs SM, coped. If I forget anything in this, apologies.

Techmarine with Conversion Beamer
Mission: Seize Ground, Dawn of War
We had a terrain objective back and centre each, with a building at each corner and a large central one. My original plan, of parking the dread and tech, and deep striking everything else, went out the window. Termies hunkered down in my objective, a combat strike with both psycannons in the centre, tech in back corner and rest in reserve. He had las team on nice high corner building, transports and bane down one flank, LRBTs down the other.
Strike squad achieved nothing, got wiped; tech shook a LRBTs but was about an inch off S10 range damage :( and took a cannon to the face for his trouble.
SR dropped interceptor behind bane wolf, which they hammered down, and the ven dread (and them got meltad out the sky) which sat and in 2 turns tore through 2 chimera, the Vulture and finished off the Bane wolf before dying to dedicated Melta.
Remaining strike combat squad deep struck and immobilised a LRBT, which had been nibbling at termies. Concentrated plasma took out remaining PAGK; termies ran out to incoming chimera, Melta bombed the sucka then hid back in objective for a 4 turn draw.
A few things became very, very apparent from this game:
Psyfleman dreadnoughts are a complete beast. Why would you not run them venerable, and in multiple? GK are ostensibly an assault army now, ven dreads are really your main ranged weapon platform. Still, to run 3, while perfectly feasible even at 1.5k, seems a little tedious.
TAGK are not completely rubbish; they are relatively hard to kill, all in all.
Grand master + Melta bomb = result.
SRs are a massive target. I knew this, but wonder if even the hurricanes are worth it, given how few chances you'll get to use them.
Techmarine I'm convinced is still useful with a C-Beamer. It fills a definite gap in the GK armoury.
GKs are just not mobile enough. For an assault army, they hardly ever get to assault. To the transports!
I'm really happy to have clawed a draw out of this. Part of me is smug that my mech vet is effective but, at the end of the day, it's not that hard to build a decent mech vet list. To have not been annihilated is to me far more impressive.
So there's my thoughts; make of them what you will.
Thanks for stopping by,
Later,
graven

I've given this a lot of thought and the short answer is - not much, at least in that scenario, with that list.
However:
1. I should've put the techmarine in cover with the termies, and reinforced it.
2. Held back the psycannons from the strike squads and dropped them into the rear armour of chimeras.
3. Sprinted the PAGK across the table to other objective; they would've drawn fire/direction of movement.
As for turn-by-turn decisions, I really wouldn't alter much; beyond the whims of the dice gods, I don't think things could've gone much more in my favour - for example, his lascannon team failed to achieve anything all game.
The question becomes how to do a viable, interesting assault list with GK.

Very cool - I had seen them, and smiled. Now I just need to think of something to do with them
So, the nice people at Apple gave me a new phone, hurrah. Part of me loves them, and part of me thinks, "This is my 4th iPhone 3Gs in 2 years. Something is amiss here." Clearly, I am a slave to fashion
In other news, the kids have been very hard work lately, especially the little one (hence why I am sitting down to do this 3 hrs later than anticipated). Added to that, I have a job interview coming up a week on Thursday, which will lead to a further slow down for the nonce, I fear. Anyway, enough of my excuses, on to some man dolls!
Firstly, a new offering for the pre-heresy swap by #1 son, who's not quite 4:
Not too shabby, methinks. Alas, grot tank "digga" suffered a fate worse than little brother, so is awaiting rekonstrukshun...
Been playing with some WM drudge mind slaves I had lying about, to make Arco-Flagellants; here's one of the four:
Obviously gs work on arm/wrists required, still, you get the idea.
I've been building PAGK & TAGK like a maniac, very close to having full army built at the very least. Not going to throw countless pics at you but here's a favourite:
Note daemon skull. A very silly idea, but one that I rather like.
What's a GK faction without a GM? Quite, and so, Grand Master Carnelian:
Personally, it's the clockwork melta bomb that makes it, for me That's a chapterhouse pad on the right, though not terribly obvious alas. He will also get DA helm wings on his back, eventually. I wonder whether I should've made him a psycannoner but tbh the incinerator just felt right and properly...
And having now played them, I think another Psyfleman is mandatory:
Tried to get a really dynamic pose on this one, and used aegis TLAC instead. Fairly happy with that, though might need a bit of boxing in. Obviously needs a shield or some such over the ba drop.
So there we are. There is other stuff done - a salvaged LR and the SR both primed, a home-made Solomon Lok and cyber-skull, etc, etc, but tis late, and am tired...
later, graven
