Nice work on the cherub and the figure in the ruined building Neil!

Subject: Neil101's 40k Manufactorum Update Old rogue trader Ulsheki
Aye up guys and gals its been a while since i updated , Now dont get me wrong, its not that i didnt want to , just the stuff i am working on is mainly theory and not good for pics .
@Perkustin , Cheers , glad you like the wings , i really enjoyed making them , pretty simple really , just roll out some green stuff, super glue one bit to the body and pick it out like afro hair until its nice and messy As for the old and young idea, i have noticed , in necromunda , the juve to adult vibe , and the history associated with the character must be , really cool in game .
@ Hey Mate, well no sooner than i was back i went away again well , metaphorically speaking . Haha glad the colour , nudged your pride button. it really is a usefull tool.
and well you know i like the grimmer darker aspects of 40k , so the perverted mechadendrite boys hardly suprise you no doubt. Ulsheki still needs his paint , and my brushes are getting dusty. so them cloak folds may get a cover sonner or later
@Monkey Cheers monkey. the hols were rubbish , but i did manage to grab a few nice piccies before the weather turned , so it wasnt all a lost cause i think my painting thirst is growing again. so soon as i finish this new project , iam sure to start again
@Baiyuan Thank your sir, i feel a gothic simple two tone blsck and white theme would suit him , with his face and coat trim giving the only hint of colour. but thats because iam a lazy painter
@Peter, yep permenant holiday scarring for the boys is ensured ....my job as a father is done well soon as i clean away my work area i will be adding some colour again. It turns out i am very easily distracted... go figure
@Thanks Manoknok, hope your redcoats are comming along too matey i need some napoleonic insperation for the praxian guard.
@Thank you shazo , your too kind
@scarper nightmare production is my new middle name ... i think i have several now. Thanks Scarper , and for the gentle blog prompt too
@Major Tom, Yep Blanch is my spiritual guide in this crazy world of saints and sinners. a meastro on a motorbike, or a harlequin on a harly , although , i guess he probably drives a big 4by 4 and wears suits now ... oh blanche how i miss the gnarly days of yore , when life was a simple dream of bolter hail and gubbinz'z.
Okay enough of that... so as i was saying , its been a while and i started a new project to create a board game that me and the boys can play in a few hours. Now that sounds simple enough , until you add that iam a compulsive research addict and hadnt really thought out how i wanted the game to play. So i had a few ideas and Bailey helped me out their too.
Idea 1
4 player game on a diamond shaped board , where you play one of the 4 chaos gods disciples . the aim of the game is to kill or recruit your enemies into your pantheon,
miniture required 2 cultists one truescale csm and one chaos sorceror per player.
It quickly became clear that the csm would be far too powerfull , and i wasnt sure about which direction to take the game after that. so i dropped that idea and returned to a more simple 4 player death match type game.
Idea 2
Necromunda deathmatch . I decided a death match style game could really work well within a hive setting, like an advanced pitslave fight , within a specially cosntructed maze like environment, overlooked by upspyrers . This would give me the oppertunity to pick up some long sought after necro minis and give the boys a nice way of joining in the fun of collecting and painting .
I opted for Upspyer noble brats...what eles Rohan , whos schhol athletic nickname is hercules ( as he can chuck the medicine ball the furthest ) opted for the goliaths ...very apt!
Logan the van saars , i had already picked up a few of these so it made sense .
Bailey opted for the Ratskins
thus started a mad two weeks of ebaying to find 4 of each models , i wanted a leader a heavy , a ganger and a juve each. and lets just say ebay is a terrible thing for a man with little self discipline so now instead of a simple 12 models in total , 30 necro minis stand on the table top. the necro minis are so cool though, i hadnt ever owned any necro minis , even in my youth , when confrontation first came out, so i was very excited to pick up two brat gangers and and the cool ratskins and van saar , even the chumpy steroid goliaths look better in the reality than i had expected . which were much cheaper to buy direct from games workshop than trying to find on ebay and you get a cool selection of necro weapons too. I dont plan on converting any of the gangers , except for the two identical brats
So the simple board game rules started flow into my head , keep the rules fast and simple, was my motto. But i was led astray by fantastic scenery and sci fi environments in coputer games like killzone and halo. and what started off as a simple 2d board became a 3d nightmare , i even incorporated working machanical parts , but alas , i bit off more than i could chew , and several stressfull days and a fair few headaches later , i decided that a simple 3d game was going to be unworkable for me. I had wanted to use a squre based map to speed up gameplay. and it wasnt happening. along wit too many cool ideas , i was swamped in a cardboard and blutack mess flailing and failing to do anything.
ao back to basics , i started again with the idea to create a tile based , sort of 3d hive map. it will be on one level but should be able to generate different envrionments from the set when complete. I am depserately sorry to see some of the cool ideas go , like the upspyer nobles looking down on the games from their gilted balconies, and the individualised sections , of the map , all mad max style for the goliaths , killzone sci fi , for the van saar, and grotty underhive for the ratskins but i had to make a descision , fantastic scenery that i probably wouldnt complete until next year , and the be too burnt out to be bothered with it, or a plain board quick and simple, no glamour , but no emotion either well like most things in life , the answer was o compromise , hopefully i can still do justice to the map sections whislt keeping gameplay firmly at the forefront.
wow, i totally see how that must have ruined your plans to not make that multistoreyed gameboard...but i think in the end this would have been a killer for someone else as the rules clearly would benefit only some of the gangs... the working enviroment idea i would like to see...tho i think an actual moving one would be too much...more like a clear outlined structure of vents and powercables that could be used as indirect weapons and of course weaponplatforms as direct weapons too...maybe even add some crates to be tossed around and such things like sewerentraces around the perimeter...this all could be done by simply making tiles like the old spacequest or rather dungeon quest tiles of said games...
seeing all those miniature pipes and railings and buildings put in place it is no wonder that you were seldom seen in this realm here^^...
as you try to make buildings/nests for each gang, will the game be set as a kind of capture the flag setup? this could be the maingoal then or if someone feels daring enough a killpoint solution as well...and of course with all the enviroment it can have numerous objectives as well...
i hope to see more of this new project of yours soon!
cheers, and don´t be a stranger....well at least for not too long^^
Neil buddy don't you mean " armless brat descends into the underhive"
This picture has me totally inspired me to build a "floating" building for my Necromunda board. Part walkway/part building. Hmmmmmm ideas ideas ideas...bugger better go to work instead.
You've got some very cool stuff going on at the moment. Remember to get some baby oil for the Goliaths.
Edit - Any chance of a close up of the tower with the yellow top, in the centre of the above pic. Cheers
Peter

Now I'm thinking along the same lines. I had the seed planted a while back by this crasy tower-hotel and the old rogue trader era display wall pieces. But I could never invision it realized... couldn't figure how to start. Now I see the way. Thanks
Very cool work.

The Good Green - I've decided that tomorrow, with the last of my walkway ingredients, I'm going to test run a slightly more built up walkway to see how it holds together.
Eventually I'd like to do something a little like Pulteney Bridge in Bath, England.
Spoiler:
The touristy side
The side that I'm using for inspiration for a Necromunda walkway

Very cool work.
QFT (after a quick google search I worked out what it meant) - Neil has done an excellent job with these WIP buildings.
Hey folks, not got much work done today , i tidied up a bit finished painting the inquisitower details finally. thanks for the encouragement .
@vik really looking forward to this project now i have a clear goal. I had several ideas for game types , to encourage full use of the board. Each section would have its own major setback to avoid camping that the opposing team can set off , like venting gas , or releasing a hoard of underhive zombies!! pitrap like floors that lead into deadly pitfights and arbite enforcer patroles . acheiving a certain amount of kills will enable bonus's like a ratskin plague rat swarm or a brat yeld spyrer, their will be constant danger that forces you to choose between deadly jumps or open areas with no cover. all teams will start with no ammo and has to collect from a centrall dump. explosive barrels lockable doors and barier building will also be part of the fun hopefully ;-)
@ logan cheers matey . and cool name too ;-)
@ pdh ( armless ....shakes head ) cheers Peter. sorry peter that model is dismantled now, although the picture should be zoomable, its a bisto gravy tub with a small tube atop it and a rip off cheap bionicle copy toy from tk max , and then a lego undewater piece . oh and a lascannon
i really like the floating buulding idea , unforyunately i had to give up on it for this project , i think it seperated the upspyrerers from underhive quite well , but after i added the mechanics for the carousel , it just didnt work. check out this canterlevr house
@Good green , i was the same , the big poly blocks really help visualise depth and structure, but then fail to realise the tiny details that make models look believable and cool.
@ Peter , well since it was your walkway i had in mind when putting these things together , i really look forward to seeing your vision. That bridge is really emotive and romantic, in a squalid type of way . It also reminds me of the Old london bridge
Perfect concept art to make that board even better! (I actually svaed the pictures on my PC so I can find them again!)
I am constantly amazed by your creative talents, I don't know how you do it but you seem very adept at building something amazing out of...well...stuff
Those pictures make me sad. Because the scale is massive it means I'll never be able to build something that large. Because of this picture I now also want running water leaking from above on my eventual board:
Thanks for the link to the image below...I really don't understand the point of building like that in the real world though? Anyone have any ideas?
I really like the contradictions of Pulteney Bridge. On the one side you have beautiful architecture and the other you have an unsightly mess. I feel that would work ever so well in the 40k setting.
As for Zooming in on your pictures. When I click in them they just open as an image rather than in the Dakka gallery. But I did it the hard way, I waded though the 1148 images in your gallery and found the pic. I also got reminded about some of your cool stuff from pages ago so it was actually a good thing.
I also found this, which I must have missed, and though how very cool:
What range is the model from?
Peter

All the board stuff looks interesting, going to be fun seeing this progress
And as always a veritable feast of great reference, thanks for all that. Especially the weburbanist site, not come across that before, just spent a while looking at cool and dodgy bridges
Apologies for the recent disappearance, illness seems to have rather got the better of me. That said I was feeling awful last night and couldn't sleep so I logged in and saw your comment under one of Kid Kyoto's pics. This led to merrily reading this entire thread. First of all ignoring all your hard work and everything .......Thank you for the kind reference/homage to myself and weety in the form of Leutenent Dance. That has cheered me greatly and was gratefully appreciated.
Now to the harsh, uninformed and barbed criticism of your works..............ahhh..........nope that's all lovely, and that, oh god this is all so nice.
Nothing for it then but sycophantic ravings............... I love what you've been doing, it's amazing and puts me and my lack of progress to real shame. I like your guard (understatement). The miniatures are excellent to start with but you've managed to GrimDark them with minimal fuss; creating a truly believable and cohesive 40K force. Although they're all a bit too tall for my liking! (All my scenery and cover is the 'correct height' which leads to bigger armies feeling rather exposed.. cunning heh?)
Please keep this thread up, as it will continue to inspire and motivate me even when I'm not capable of achieving something myself. Oh and I suppose other people may take some interest
Stay GrimDark

One day I will have a house, maybe. Then I'm going to try doing something of that scale. In the mean time I'm very inspired by all this - might have to look at it again just to take it all in
nope MT but i recall seeing some of those "headwalkers" once or twice on a T-shirt...
and i am too totally against using a mr. lazy avatar as an excuse^^
no plenary indulgence (?) by use of avatar to explain lack of progress...^^ *nudge, nudge nudge*
Hey you mean bunch of so and so's I dont know , talk about peer pressure I have been a lazy boy , and have finally got around to finishing halo reach , which santa brought for bailey at last year Really like the Halo series , actually . the story line is very engaging. and the scenes in both halo reach and kill zone 3 are visually stunning. and makes me want to build beautiful environments that make your jaw drop. Alas i have no space for those grande visions . so like weety and Peter , they shall have to remain in the imagination.
and so on to the begrugdingly small update i suppose i should of taken this oppertunity to show some of the boys models bailey based a rather nice dragon and goblin rider a while back that i wanted to share , with you guys... speaking dragons , does anyone remember this old animated movie
its been in my subconscious for a while, i thought it was really cool when it first came out... lol
@commander cain Thanks mate, i love concept art , its a great combination of immagination fantasy and technical skill, i am constantly humbled by the talent that people seem to have in the creative world. i think Junk is worrd your looking for
@Peter sorry the wait for the reply matey That image you referenced is beautiful , it would be so very cool to play on a board like that , but its also eqally cool just to admire the fantastic art work involved abnd its mood, it would be very difficult if not impossible to recreat the mood of that piece as scenery , this is what makes me sad as for the canterlever house , it was i grain store i believe , not sure why its like that , maybe to fit the grain trucks underneath ? and the model , or Giacomo My rogue r=trader senechal is from war machine cygnar , and is called allister mcain , there are 3 versions of him all look really good.
http://privateerpress.com/warmachine/gallery/cygnar/warcasters/lieutenant-allister-caine-2009 sorry about the trawl through the gallery mate
@ santobell sorry matey , you got the wrong mini easy mistake to make though , both are great and similar. see below
@Monkey Hi monkey, and your more than welcome about the references , its nice to be able to share with peeps that appreciate what i like too , so i feel not so bad spending most days researching basing the board on the 3d space hulk type affairs that are aplenty in our genre. but a bit more grubby hopefully
@Dances with sqauts.. Hey Dance! good to see ya mate glad you found leutnant weety Dance ! he has been waiting for your approval a while Sorry you have been not feeling to great mate, But if you will insist on those vicious fights in the underhive Thank you for the kind compliments on the Praxian guard , i feel like i have abbandoneed them somewhat of late to glory hunt all those nice minis i said i wouldnt need . But you inspired me to work on them again, i was going to paint up Leutnant Weety Dance , but i came across a few others before i got to him but he will have a lick off paint in due course , and then he can go into battle hiding under a some half cover , and claim it to be full Well i wouldnt want to cross you mate so i guess the blog will stay.... not that i was gonna take it down just getting a bit slow to update in my old age glad you stopped by and gald you liked the stuff , thanks for reading the whole thing ... Impressed!!, and get well soon , or i will send the noble ninth around .... Stay.. erm.. er .....Short!
@Vik it was the anniversery of the guy who wrote these childrens books , and i thought it was quite apt for me at the moment
@Monkey , Oww i kinda feel all warm a fuddley now , Thanks for missing me You big hairy Jokaero And thank for all the nice posts Peeps , you all made me feel very ... erm wanted
@ Vik sorry matey , well guess i better start painting again , now wheres monkeys grots got too..!
so i did a liitle bit of work , i put sonme details on the inquisi tower , and made some harry potter style wands with the boys, i also stated painting Actaeon... finally so i am feeling the Praxian Vibe again, hope to do some more writing again soon too.
Thanks for all the comment folks
Some of your camera angles made my acrophobia (Fear of heights) kick in Neil! That is sime nice city-scaping there! oh and the techno-saur is cool too!

"poor MR Lazy" well this is what i use from now on when adressing you neil when i feel you are a bit behind your own schedule^^ lol...that was a nice cartoon there... watched it in one go...(seldom here as most of the times boring stuff gets shown^^) also i liked the flight of the dragons vid...in the credits it said it even got james earl jones...the man and the VOICE...! cool...
your tower looks very nice now with added details...did you use average screws for detailwork on the upper sections or did i only got that wrong? your Actaeon is coming along nicley... the muted blue is something of a looker! also like how you added lasconon wires as horns^^
so you crafted with yon youngsters some wands... i really think they came out exellent...but ever since that wich of an author killed off dumbledore the potter scene died for me as well... tho i did read the last book of hers as well only hoping he would be raised from the dead...insted she killed yet another of my favorite chars...i hope she never ever gets around publishing another book... not that she needs to anyway...being britains at least second wealthiest woman...but aside from my nerdrage...very good looking wands! compliment your sons!!!
and by the way... enjoyed your artist inspirational pics too and the madmax pics are truly inspiring too!
cheers mate and don´t be a strager to yer own thread^^
@IronBars , cool name Cheers matey, glad you like , and will do i have my mojo back for them , and its about time they had some colour.
@Shazo , sorry about that i do like nice dramatic camera shots thanks for the compliments mate.
@Vik Yes Mr lazy is my new middle name glad you liked the vids mate. i remember you saying your not a fan of the JK anymore , well the boys are in the potter phase, and have been reading all the books of late , just finishing off with the half blood prince, as the already read the last one the tower could do with more work really but its fine as a building , i think . glad you like the references too mate.
i just had to share with you guys these amazing scale models , i have never seen seen anything on this scale before , i found them on this website which has a list of great city dioramas from around the world, just scroll down to the blue links under the chicago pics also google scale model cities
Woooow! What incredible amount of work must have gone into building these...
Visit my I-munda/Necromunda P&M Blog: Eye for Detail Visit my Infinity P&M Blog: Reckless Abandon Scarper: "That is incredibly detailed...shows an attention to detail that goes beyond anyone you'll fight."
The Good Green: "Ok, That is incredible. Such attention to detail... I'm convinced you would benefit from a straight jacket ;~P Thanks for raising the bar."
PDH: "Yeah Bloody Baiyuan's Bloody eye for detail . Bet he doesn't sig that one"
PDH: "I'm not saying anything that you might sig against me. Made that mistake before!"
PDH: "Thanks for joining Dakka and spoiling us with your work. "
dedication to a thing is a dangerous thing....imagine they would spend their time instead of doing scale models on world domination... i think they would succed and even have time to have their afternoon teatime...
I was looking at those pictures and the first thing to come to me after being a little lost for words was "I wonder what will actually be in shanghai where the supporting collums for the floor are?"
The amalgamation of large reptilion and techno junk has me wondering what mated with what. It looks cool though... the colour scheme is good so far and the base is wicked.
