Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

UK

Time to pick a theme for next month's challenge! The options this month are:

Heatwave: The model should in some way involve, be using or related to fire or heat, for example a Space Marine carrying a flamer, a wizard hurling a fireball or a flame elemental/demon ect.

Flying The Flag: The model should have some symbolic significance to your army, such as a standard, icon or totem.

Objective Secured: Your entry should either be models typically tasked with capturing and holding objectives, or alternatively, something that can be used as an objective marker.

Unleash The Beast: Your entry should be a monster, animal, or particularly wild-spirited warrior.

Unleash the beast!! Couple of options for this one - probably going Guildball on this one if it makes it

Hrmmmm. Not a lot of beasts here. I’m sure I could dig something up it that wins. I could easily build some sort of flag bearer with parts on hand, and have something primed and ready for the other two.

Voted Heatwave. Have some Fire Dragons that need paint.

I voted Beasts, as I have a lot of Flesh Hounds that could use some paint on them. However, as usual, I do have a game plan for any of the topics (never hurts to be prepared, right?):
Heatwave: This one might actually be the hardest for me, since I don't have any unpainted guys with flamers. However, I do have some Chaos Bikers with Meltaguns, or I could paint up a squad of Tau Crisis suits and put flamers on via the magic of magnets.
Flying the Flag: I have a Deathwing Command Squad including a banner that I could paint, and it would be fun to do!
Objective Secured: So many choices! Tactical Marines, Tau Fire Warriors, I've got plenty of guys that hold the objectives!
Unleash the Beast: Probably gonna have to go with more Daemonkin stuff on this one, as Dark Angels and Tau don't get very beastly. I've got plenty of Flesh Hounds to do, or I could do my Possessed.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

hmm...tough choice...I don't really have anything for any of those categories that I'm super eager to paint, at least nothing really springs to mind at the moment...I voted for "flying the flag", because standard-bearer type models can make for fun little showpieces...but I've probably got something around here for whichever category gets picked, so it's all good

heatwave - I'd probably do some burnaboyz I think...or a heldrake if I get ambitious...
flying the flag - maybe a plaguebearer standard bearer, or a plague drone standard bearer, or a nob with a waaagh! banner...one of them'll work.
objective secured - either some boyz, or maybe some cultists...hmm, or nurglings or plaguebearers...
unleash the beast - hmm...well, plague drones would probably work...maybe a maulerfiend?...spawn have the "beast" unit type, right?

hmm, so it turns out I do have a few possible options for all the categories after all righto, I'll just wait and see what we get then

...it's good to be green!

Hrmmm, none of these really apply to the kinds of mini's I need to finish for my army. May have to get creative with this next one regardless of what gets chosen. Or take a break from army-list-based painting/modelling and do a mini just for the fun of it. Is that allowed?

haha, not only allowed, but recommended, I'd say!...painting something a bit different, or say, some fancy character model or something, every now and then can be great to prevent/cure "hobby burn-out"

I'm worried Januine might too because I know he has a box. Ooer!

Mind you, would be quite a fun little sub-group. I know Jan has a very different colour scheme to me. Be interesting to see how they vary.

If beast wins, I think the closest thing I have is some genestealer cult guys as well. They are old and metal, but what I’ve got...

hmm...I'm actually half-way through scratchbilding/kitbashing a squiggoth (using a tamiya triceratops model - credit to Kiblams on youtube for that idea ), though that's been "on hold" for about 3 months or so now...if it turns out "unleash the beast" does win, which it looks like at the moment...I *might* try finishing the build on that and paint it...not sure...on the one hand, I'm not sure if I'll be able to get it done, or indeed if it'll actually turn out any good...though on the other hand, this month and last month I've kinda just blitzed my entry within the first week and been left twiddling my thumbs...could be nice to have something substantial enough to keep me occupied for the full month...

Unleash the beast sounds the most promising.

I already know my own plans and skills won't be anywhere near as special as the magic people will bring to such projects.

Not sure I've got much for unleash the beast, which is clearly going to be the runaway winner.

I try not to submit Space Marines every month, but I think perhaps knocking togethe the most brutal looking marine I can might be the only option.

The beasts have taken it! Going to have to have a think about this myself... A Space Wolf of some flavour seems the obvious choice, but we'll see if I can be a little more creative.

Flying The Flag gets another go next month, as per usual.

ohh boy...yeah, I think I might have to take this opportunity to try and finish my tamiya triceratops->squiggoth conversion/scratchbuild...I'm only halfway-ish through the actual build though, so I have no idea how this will go!

...if it gets to about the last week, and it's looking poorly, well, I'll probably just cop out and do a plague drone, or a little beast of nurgle conversion I made, or maybe a squig...

Beasts are in interesting one

I do have a partly done lizardman/imperial guard conversion bought off ebay similar to zobo but a bit smaller, think I will have to finish the conversion and orkyfy it, into either a grot or snakebite theme, I'm in the mood for a conversion this month

Beasts eh....I'm kinda torn what to do - not from lack of option but too many possibilities......Narrowed it down to Chaos Lord, Casket, or the converted Skitarii Dracosan which is a real beast -much bigger than I expected when I ordered it......May go with the APC/tank. Never painted a tank before o.O
