If you could move to a new location, where would you go, and why? I'm talking everything: people, employment, cost of living, stuff to do, natural beauty, culture, good schools, low crime rate, good food, squirrels that poop candy, whatever...

I would deffently move out of the Rust Belt if I could but family is important to my wife and me. Jobs around here stink, crime is bad, pollution from 100 years of factories dumping waste everywhere is bad, the weather sucks, I could go on and on. The only time I got away from this place was my time in the military. I planned on moving several years ago before I meet my wife, was searching for jobs out in Montana and North Dakota. Try talking my wife into moving but she won't leave her parents. Oh well, guess I just have to take a hunting or fishing trip out that way again.
I'm looking into relocating to Canada, I don't like either of the choices we have coming up as a president it makes me sick that these two choices are the "best" that the US can come up with. I've been to Canada and it's beautiful, incredible amounts of nature everywhere, the people there are very friendly and they have universal medical care which is currently something that's crippling my family budget.

I'm from the mid-Atlantic. It's not too bad here, except summers are BRUTAL and in the more suburban and urban areas, the population is so dense as to make driving around a constant hassle (at least for someone like me).

I have often wondered around election season, would the Canadians even want us?
I always figured the US is so big, there's always someplace to go without worrying about the hassle of borders. The Canadians do seem to have an enviable social safety net, as well as friendlier-than-normal people. I don't know how much of that is perception vs. reality, because I've never been there or met too many Canadians to think of it.

Sure, eh! Come on over cousin. Just remember baseball is boring and hockey is life. Also, it's called a toque (pronounced too-k), not a woolly hat.

Dude...you don't know how bad it hurts me inside as an Orioles fan to hear a Canadian say baseball is boring. They are killing us, and nobody up there even cares about the sport, ffs!

Oh, don't get me wrong. we like it, it's just boring. It's something to have on in the background while you drink beer with your friends.

If I absolutely had to move it would be about 100 miles to my north-west. South Dakota. Gun friendly, close enough to big cities, but far enough away to have the isolation I want. Clean air, low taxes, good schools, friendly people.
Henley-on-Thames is the most awesome place in the world to live if you like rowing and river boating, and has loads of non-river local events and attractions like the Reading Festival, the Chiltern Hills, and others. Henley also is close enough to places like London, Oxford, Winchester and the Cotswolds to provide a lot of choice when you want to do something outside the local area.
My only problem is that it would be more enjoyable if I had more money, but if I was a lot richer I would move to a larger house locally and buy a house in Japan. I wouldn't want to move away from the town.
Of course I am very lucky to live here. It was never planned and came about nearly by accident.

What are some of the nicest places in Canada to visit or live?
Well, all of coastal and interior BC is gorgeous. The Maritimes, too. (east coast provinces). Even the middle is nice if you like it flat with scrub and big, big puddles.
Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, Ottawa and Halifax are our best cities. I would happily live in one of those, if I didn't already have a great little life built in a great little town. My brother moved to Vancouver a few years back and he loves it.

Probably Oregon. Lots of forests and it's more gun friendly than California.

Where I live currently is pretty nice, it'd probably take quite a bit to get me to give it up and move.
But, assuming for a moment that I had a job in the field I'm interested in lined up, I think I'd move to New Zealand. Also, because I love gak weather (one of the things I love about the western parts of Oregon and Washington is just how wet it is), I'd probably specifically want to go to Dunedin or somewhere there in the southern parts.
Failing that international move... there are a few places I'd like to live in the US that I haven't yet. Seaside, Depot Bay, Lincoln City and a few other small bits of the Oregon coast are quite nice, despite all the touristy junk (seriously, Oregon coastline is miles better than Washington coastline) Heck, I'd even settle back down in my home town (much much closer to family that way)... but the cost for the house I "need" is much higher than the jobs I'm looking for could support.

Vancouver in a heart beat...with a condo in Montreal when I have to get my Au Pied de Cochon on. I've been to most of the major Canadian cities on business and those two I returned to several times for vacation getaways with the family. Vancouver has the great advantage of just being a quick drive from Seattle, one of my favorite U.S. cities.
I already made it to the state I want to live in (Arizona). But I'm not sure which city I want to stay in. Right now it's a toss up between Prescott and Flagstaff. I'm really into guns and it doesn't get any better than Arizona for that hobby. Political reasons are why I left the state I was in (California).
Alaska. Preferably in the middle of nowhere. It's a hard life, but it's the last "free" place (as in freedom) for somebody who wants to start over (or about as close as you'll come, in any case).
It's been a long time since I've been to Alaska. If you can stand the cold, it's a magical place.

That's a place with decent prospects for me career-wise.
It's basically "Seattle".... Seriously, I drove through it on the way north to play rugby a couple times, and there really wasn't much distinguishing the two, such is the expansion of the metro area.

Hell... even living in 'the burbs' is still living out 'in the bush' there.
My dad lived Chugiak (right outside of Anchorage)... and yes, that place is magical.
I myself have wondered this. Ironically I am about to have to start over very soon. Raytheon was offering jobs with employment to Australia. Apparently they use the same Arty systems we do now. I would totally go there, as long as the pay matched the insane prices Aussies pay.
