At my desk

So, let's create a hypothetical situation which would never arise and say that you are going to play a 2000 point game and spend 400 points in each of HQ, Troops, Elites, Fast Attack and Heavy Support. Being able to spend those 400 points on anything within that section, which do you think would win back the most of it's points in an average game with how you'd play it.

I know that this is an absurdly inaccurate model for judging strength because it may not allow for certain synergies or formation rules or any other shenanigans you see these days, but I thought of it this morning and I'm honestly curious. So for my main armies I'd think Blood Angels elites for the sheer killing potential of DC, SG and Furioso Dreads, Eldar Troops because of Scatter Laser Jetbikes, 'nuff said.

Any thoughts on the subject?

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

CSM: Fast Attack because of Spawn, Heldrake en Bikes
(some of the most economically viable choices in the codex)

Daemons: HQ because of Fateweaver, FMC's, Heralds
(all very potent sorcerers and access to things like Grimnoire)

Fiery the angels fell; deep thunder rolled around their shores; burning with the fires of Orc.

Armies:
Daemons: 5000+ points
CSM/Black Legion: 5000+ points
Deathwatch/Knights: 5000 points

Elites, easily. 2 Riptides with EWO and IA are less than 400p

AI & BFG: / BMG: Mr. Freeze, Deathstroke / Battletech: SR, OWA / Fallout Factions: BoS / HGB: Caprice / Malifaux: Arcanists, Guild, Outcasts / MCP: Mutants / SAGA: Ordensstaat / SW Legion: CIS / WWX: Union

Fast Attack with Reavers, Scourge, Venoms, Raiders and the Razorwing Jetfighter (assuming we're not using Death from the Skies).

Well that is an easy one.

For my Eldar is my scat bikes, wraithknights, hornets and spiders.

Scat Bikes and Knights are the main offenders against anything but I find that hornets and spiders always shine if used correctly.

For my GK the librarian and the Dreadknight.

Problem is that I cant find a bad choice in the eldar codex as a whole and I can't find other good choices in the GK codex besides the two mentioned above.

Got milk?

All I can say about painting is that VMC tastes much better than VMA... especially black...

For harlequins it's probably either elites for the shadowseers and solitaire, or fast attack for skyweavers.

For Khaela Mensha Khaine
For the Emperor and Sanguinius!

I'd say Fast Attack for Daemons; Sceamers, Fleshhounds and even Plague Drones.

For Eldar, it is actually hard to pin down 1 section.
Best Troops in the game, check.
Best LoW in the game (out of Apoc, anyway) check.
Most points efficient support HQ, check.

But all of those are outliers compared to the other choices in their respective section.

I'd want to say Fast Attack because of Hornets & Spiders, but Fast attack also has the most "duds" of all the sections of the codex. No one takes Shining Spears, draft FAQ killed Hawks & Vypers are only taken because they are mandatory for the Guardian Hosts

Harlequins: 400pts for elite slots gives you quite interesting "unit" consisting of 5 DeathJesters and one ML2 Shadowseer with Mask of Secrets. That is a lot of s6, bladestorm shooting or a lot of heavily modified morale checks for non-fearless units, with Veil of Tears invulnerability against +24" shooting.

Or 8 mobile, shooty, punchy, hit&run Skyweavers in fast attack.

I know i was supposed to say elites, but come on. BA elites generally end up being a convoluted way to give up points. Oh i know: the allies section.

Orks - Elites. 2 Trukks with 4 Meganobz each + BP and Ram is 400. MANz missiles are usally good at smashing face or drawing a good deal of fire. (Tankbustas are also pure gold)

Tau - Elites. 3 units of Crisis suits for a total of 8 models and each packing double weapons is just barely over 400 (could downgrade 2 units to use Burst Cannons or something to fit it). Crisis Suits deep striking in almost always pull their weight and are the hammer unit that has broken more army's backs than any other asset in my Tau army. (Riptides are also good and make up the crutch *cough* I mean the core of a lot of Tau armies).

Grey Knights. Heavy Support because that's where Dreadknights come from. Trim points as needed and you can fit 2 in for 400. One might not have a Psycannon but they are still very deadly.

Tempestus - HQ as MT Command Squads have everything that regular Scions have plus better leadership and Orders for 15 more points. They can also take up to 4 special weapons which makes their drop in dakka a lot more potent. 3 units of 5 with 3 special weapons fit into 400 points.

Spess Wulves - Fast Attack. I can see the from a mile away thinking "oh geeze space wolves spamming Thunderwolves, how original" and you know what your probably right BUT. Zog that noise because Skyclaws are where its at. 18 Skyclaws split between 2 units with a hidden PF + 2x Wolf Claw Squad leader each will mulch things and have the bodies to soak volume of fire. (Thunderwolves are great and a strong argument can be made that the Elite slot would also do well with their Wulfen and non HQ slot Iron Priests).

Inq - Elite as that's basically the only slot they got besides their Inquisitors (which are more utility than power units). 4 units with Chimeras w/ 2 heavy bolters + Psybullets, 2 plasma acolytes and a psyker throwing out psychic shrieks from the top hatch is right at 400 points. Could also run 3 units with 3 plasma, psyker, and 2 units having a jokero. You could also run 20 units of 2 lasgun acolytes + a psyker for 400 points.

So... the best section of the dark eldar codex is the craftworld eldar codex?

For Space Marines, if speaking about the raw brutality it will be no doubt on the Heavy Support slot. There are three good things in this section: Grav Centurion, Thurnder Fire Cannon, and Devastors (awesome in Skyhammer or Battle Demi Company formation, decently good in CAD). If speaking about the supporting ability, I would suggest the Fast Attack section where the cheap as chip metal boxes and Droppods come from, followed by HQ for Librarian.

For Renegades and heretics it is Heavy Support, no contest. The 5 types of artillery they can lay down in heavy support, as well as the wyvern are all hard to surpass in power. The low prices on them are insane as well. S9 ap3 20ft range barrage large blast for 55pt is a steal.

It's hard to choose between heavy support lobbas, elite megaarmored nobz and dls bikerboss in HQ. So, let's say troops cause grots are there. While the opponent is occupied with hq and heavy support, grots run around, score and with me games.
