Hey dakka! I was recently inspired by a few fellow dakkanaughts to dig my remaining Dark Eldar out of storage and create an army out of them.

Dark Eldar are one of my favorite armies in the game, I sorta gave up on my previous DE army last year during a bout of depression and a gaming downspell, most of my models getting sold off or locked in storage.

Well, I dug the remaining out of storage, and fixed them up a bit and voila, Dark Eldar!

I currently have 4 venons, a raider, a ravager, a haemonculus, a few witches, a few scourges and a razorwing jetfighter.

I think I might have an archon and a handful of kabalite at my other house too!

The plan is gonna be a bright bone colour with a secondary colour of bright green, and a spot colour of bright blue. If you couldn't tell I really like bright colours... The fluff involves a mad archon who denies the existance of She Who Thirsts, he is only held in check by his underlings, but his skill in combat is enough to scare them into submission. They are located in the slums of commoragh, constantly annoyed by warring hellion gangs. Because of this, they have developed a prowess to kill hellions on sight, and develop a distaste towards their peers and rival kabals. Betrayal runs rampant through their ranks until they reach battle, but once they do, they attack with swift ferocity, tearing enemies limb from limb as their raiders fly past, with howling warriors laughing as they rain death upon their victims. They favor simplicity, whatever allows them more slaves and torture victims is what they favor, because of this, they often forego decoration as even a decapitated head will slow a raider down.

Sadly, nothing is painted yet, however, probably by the end of the weekend there will be a venom and some test wyches!

Thank you for taking your time to read through my ramblings!
~Mikey

Nice collection you've still got, and I really like the fluff you've got behind them the idea of a mad Archon that denies the existence of She-Who-Thirsts, but is too deadly to depose is a really neat idea

Looking forward to the colour scheme too bright colours on Dark Eldar always look very striking

Gummyofallbears I'm so happy to see this thread made! I can't wait to see your pain scheme here, the description of it sounds awesome. You've got a good sized collection still, a little short on infantry but those are easy ranks to fill since you got all the transports covered for a while. Really excited to see this force come together!

Ha, thanks guys!

I got the base colours blocked in on a venom this morning before I ran out to the FLGS to get some games in.

I also stopped at my other house and picked up a handful of kabalite and an archon, if you can call it that! They were in pretty crap condition but I replaced all the arms and made them look a bit cooler I think, I also got my archon together, no pics yet but soon! I am a bit short on heads at the moment so I can't start on more than a few kabalite right now...

Without further ado... the first of the Kabal of the Lacerated Caress (not too sure about the name yet, I'd love some feedback lol)

Looking awesome so far! Really digging that green tinted windshield. Got any plans for some blue spot colouring on this model somewhere?

Thanks man! I got the metals basecoated in and currently they are sitting with a blue glaze and are awaiting a highlight. Currently I don't think I can squeeze some blue onto the model anywhere besides that without it looking tacked on.

Hey guys a few updates today!

I got the armour of 2 Kabalite warriors finished today, I got the venom very close to being finished, and I thought I'd share my archon because I am dying to throw some paint on him tonight.

That Archon, despite laying sideways for some strange reason, is looking really cool. I dig the way you built him a lot. Can't wait to see him all painted up. The bone armor on your kabalite looks absolutely amazing. What's your techniques and colours you use to get that look?

Thank You!

I used a black primer (I cannot stand white primer) and I basecoated with Zandri dust, then just painted Ushabti bone all over it, using super thin paints and doing tons of layers. I wash the recesses with Seraphim sepia, first highlight is Screaming Skull and the second is 1:1 Screaming skull and Pallid Wych Flesh.

The highlights are really really subtle, but they make it look nice nonetheless. I completely despise Ushabti bone as a paint, so I'm trying to think of an alternative.

Hey guys, I got a bit of work on the archon done, and I also made a few bloodbrides from a bunch of old sprues I found sitting around

Oh, and thank you guys so much for watching, it really helps me get painting done when I know there are some people enjoying my products, but sappiness over, lets get onto the models.

Your Archon is coming along very nicely. The bone colour suits him well. The basing on your bloodbrides is a real standout feature. Pun totally intended. Looks very dynamic and fun, great job.

Yep. That's a great looking Archon looks even better with paint. He looks really arrogant which is the best thing

I like the corkboard bases for the Bloodbrides too. Really sets them apart from the normal Wyches.

Thanks guys!

The only reason they have those bases is because they are made out of the wyches riding on the venom, so it was kinda necessary, but nonetheless I think it works out nicely then.

I am sorry for the terrible pictures, I am trying to get better but its almost like the camera doesn't want to work, ugh.

Thanks guys!

Some basic tricks for getting decent pics, even from a crummy phone camera:

Brace it against something to prevent shakes
Use a plain background (even just a sheet of paper)
Lots of light.

Obviously there is a ton more you can do, but even a few simple things can improve your quality a lot.

Minis look good!

Hey dakka! I'm sorry for the lack of updates recently, I've gone through a bit of a painting depression thanks to the election and the infighting in America, but alas, nothing like some mini's to cheer me up!

I am almost finished with the archon, I just need to get the skulls and tiny details done. I got the skin cloak and the agonizer done and I am pretty happy with how they turned out, which is awesome because I was really nervous for those parts. No matter how horrifying the cape is, it does look really cool.

I started some more kabalite warriors, I think that I have finally kinda got the scheme under control.

Additionally, I primed a ravager and I can see myself starting it sometime over the three day weekend. Its pretty big and intimidating to paint, but I think that there are so many awesome options when it comes to freehanding so I can definitely practice some of that on this guy. Also, any ideas for the sail? Blue would be a bit too stark but green might overload the model. All feedback is appreciated!

Thank you so much for the support, it really means a lot!

Looking very nice I go through lulls with painting as well. I find it's better for me to paint stuff in bursts interspersed with more modelling (although that does mean I'll likely never actually finish!).

As I was reading through the top of your thread I was thinking 'I wonder if anyone's done a skin-cloak that's not a uniform colour, like it was built up over different raids on different worlds?'.

Scroll down and lo and great minds think alike! Works very nicely

For the sails, how about a darker shade of brown? Either Ushabti Bone or Balor Brown with a brown wash? Would make it stand out slightly from the rest of the model, but not overshadow the green highlights elsewhere...

I could see the skin cloak going either way. Depends on the criteria of the wearer. He might search the battlefield for people of a particular shade to hunt down and flay, so he matches. Or only choose those with a certain about of bravery/fear/honor/anything else, where the color doesn’t matter. I do like the multi-shade look, and you did a good job on it.

For the sail, is there going to be a lot of green in other places on the model? If so, It might be a little much to also do it in the same accent color. Is there another color you use as a secondary accent? My first thought was either black or white, but I’m not sure how that would work overall. Just my first impression. Might want to break out a color wheel and plot stuff out.

Thanks Nevelon.

I was thinking purple, and then with a bit of freehand to spruce it up, but that's just because I really like painting purple.

I think purple with white freehand, but that is just a though as it very well can look terrible.

Actually, purple is a really nice complement/contrast to green. They work really well together.

Maybe you could work in a couple of small purple highlights to your other models to tie everything together something like a gemstone or pipe/tube thing

Oh, and your Kabalite heads are on their way, just coming internationally!

I just looked up a color wheel quick online. Purple actually looks like it’s a decent balancing color for you.

You have an yellow/orange/brownish base, and then a green accent for your primary. That’s two legs of a triad, where the opposite is somewhere in the purple range. I might aim a little on the reddish side of purple, but whatever you have should work.

Your Archon is looking real good, sadly the photos are a bit blurry so it's tough to see the details, especially on the agonizer (of which I was very excited to see your technique for). The multi-coloured cloak idea is really nice and I feel works very well for your Archon.

As for the raider sails I sat on a 95% finished raider for 4 months because I couldn't figure out my sail. There's so many options on how to paint it that it's tough to settle on one. My suggestion for you would be to perhaps come up with a symbol for your force (basing it on a tribal-esque version of some Japanese Kanji works well for DE) and putting that on the sail. You could start with a dark brown sail to blend with your bone colour then do the symbol in either green or purple.

I agree with Nev and Ynnead, purple would be a good compliment to the green, just be careful with which shade of purple you do because you don't want everyone who looks at your models to think of the Joker from Batman. Sadly certain colour combos in our society our so tied together that it almost makes them unusable. When was the last time you saw a green and red model and didn't immediately think of x-mas? The force is coming together nicely though, I'm really enjoying watching the progress on it.

Thanks man! It really means a lot coming from you. For the sail I have kinda decided on just black with a white symbol, I am super excited for some freehand!

Sadly, you're gonna have to wait too see the rest of my Dark Eldar progress for a little bit as I am going to Warhammer World and Nottingham/London over thanksgiving and I am gonna be playing a game with my space wolves. I need to get 10 skyclaws and 4 drop pods painted in about a week, so I'm gonna need to rush to get those finished, but afterwards, the Dark Eldar shall get some more love as they really do deserve it. Once I get those skyclaws painted I think my space wolves will take a bit of a break, there are so many intriguing projects that I would love to work on and they can take a backseat.

I played a proxy game of 30k today at my FLGS with Blood Angel rules and it was super fun, so they might show up in the near future, also, I played some blood bowl and I think it was the most hilariously fun board game I have ever played, so that was also wonderful. So in the next coming months expect a few of those guys too!

For 30k, I am still having trouble deciding the legion I wanna play. If I did it would be a legion definitely inspired by their historical influence (I am considering doing Blood Angels so they would be very reniscance heavy.) I am also considering Sons of Horus, so very ostrogoth/vandal themed. Death Guard would be cool too but I can't see how to fit WWI into a space marine. Or a gladiator themed World Eater army would be cool.. or a Pagan Word Bearers... Im getting side tracked however.

I got a lot on my plate, so wish me luck!

I also bought a box of scourge today, which is pretty exciting. I freaking love the scourge kit, it has so many amazing bits and lots of cool options.

Sadly, i could only build them with two heat lances, and one is just a cut up haywire cannon, but hey, I don't play strictly WYSIWYG so I should be okay.

Hey man we all got multiple projects going on at a time I'm sure. Going to Warhammer world sounds very exciting I expect to hear all about it when you get back. Doing the freehand sail sounds great, I look forward to seeing it whenever you get around to it.

My vote is you do work bearers. I may be a bit biased however because my very first 40k army was word bearers.

Scourges are an amazing kit, I can't wait to get a box for myself.

For everything you got on your plate: Good luck!
