Since there are ton some of different hive fleets and only few of them have been identified, this leaves massively open possibilities to colour schemes for tyranids without being too contradictory to the fluff.
I'm making this post to see/compile some of your favourite, ideal, dream or used paint schemes you guys use for your 'Nids.
Please, feel free to post them.

Wow! What a beauty! They look very insect like! It makes the tyranids look more... realistic.

Mine are not a patch on those insectoid ones, which are jaw dropping.

Inspired by pics in IA:4, note as nicely done but I wanted something quick and easy to paint

Dude, no need to worry, it reminds me of hive fleet colossus, that is some excellent painting, I don't even own a single miniature! You can sure bet that I've got Orks on my x-mas list!

Not I. But to be fair the current state of the bugs has me not putting any of them on the table. Really kills my motvation to paint em unfortunately.

Does riddled with bullets and covered in their own gore count as a “favorite paint scheme”?

Very nice pics of bugs in this thread. The few nids I’ve personally painted were a deep blue carapace, with purple soft bits (genestealers) or a very light blue (Zoat)

I’d say I need to get a better pic of the genestealers, but getting mulched by Ultramarines is a good look for them.

I quite like my tyranid scheme but I love earthy schemes too, and monochrome nids that have the same skin and carapace colours. There isn't a better army in the game for choosing whatever colours you want and making it look plausable

Thanks. They don't hold a candle to that carnifex but I'm happy with them

2000+ points and they've never seen the tabletop. Started on them in 6th with the old tervigon codex, the current codex arrived, 7th arrived, the formations came out, all sorts of meta changing stuff appeared like superheavies, new deathstars, gladius etc. so every time the list I was working on was almost done the army I was building would drop a power level... I think I gave up on tyranids when eldar got a <300 point gargantuan MC

In retrospect if I'd switched to a faster, wash-based paint scheme it would have been okay

Thanks, although there is nothing more complex on it than drybrushing and very watery paint, very little actual skill involved in painting it.

I feel your pain, my Ork kan army hasn't seen the table since the 7th ed codex came out.

that is a beauty, mate!!!

you wouldn't happen to remember which Hive Fleet is the one with the black skin, and grey carapace with red markings???
i don't have my old books with me, and Google is no help :(
it's the scheme i use when painting 'NIds...
i really enjoyed the look of adding Rotting Flesh into black for the skin, and painting the red markings on the grey carapace is fun...
not remembering the name of the Fleet is annoying...

cheers
